Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 930 : Talking Turned Sour
*Leo*
The first thing I took note of as I woke the next morning was the warm feeling against my bare chest. I hadn’t felt this familiar warmth in too time.
Bianca was still in a deep sleep against me and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief. Usually, I would have woken up on an uncomfortable couch alone. It was a good feeling to wake up next to my beautiful girlfriend again.
As softly as I possibly could, I reached my head down to kiss her forehead. It was still rather early in the morning, I wouldn’t expect Bianca to wake for another hour or so.
Unfortunately, for me, I had to get up to leave to head to the warehouse to continue plotting Michael’s demise. Franky and I were still in the middle of searching for the CEO Michael had blackmail on.
There were a lot of companies in LA, so it was no small task. We had a lot of combing and undercover work to get done if we had any chance of finding which company the CEO worked for.
However, for the moment, I wanted to put all those thoughts to the side while I enjoyed holding my girlfriend in my arms while she slept. It hadn’t taken us long at all to fall asleep after we went to bed last night. I had thought to myself; we had both felt at peace lying next to each other, sleep had come easily for both of us for once.
Bianca had begun to stir, blinking the sleep from her eyes. I rubbed her arm with my thumb as she woke. She looked up at me and I greeted her with a smile.
“Good morning, my love.” I kissed her temple.
A loving smile appeared on her face as she spoke. “And good morning to you.”
“How did you sleep?” I asked, still holding her in my arms.
She did a little stretch before answering. “Really well, actually. I haven’t slept that soundly in a long time.”
I half smiled at her. “I feel exactly the same way.”
She hugged me tightly before sitting up and turning to face me. “I do think it’s time for us to talk, though.”
I sat up and nodded. “I agree.”
She exhaled a sigh of relief. “All right. Good. I’m glad you agree.”
I chuckled softly. “Tell me what’s on your mind.”
“I want to talk about our future,” she said with a rather serious expression on her face.
I sat up a little straighter. I had to admit, I wasn’t expecting her to want to have a conversation about our future. Quite frankly, I had figured she simply wanted to talk about how she was feeling and whether or not I’d agree to go to Italy for the holidays.
“Alright,” I replied. “What exactly do you mean?”
“Well, for starters, I’d like to know what your views are on marriage and having kids,” she said, fiddling with her hands. “I’ve always dreamed of getting married to the man of my dreams. Having a big fancy wedding with all of my family and friends there.”
I was silent as she spoke, listening carefully to her every word.
“And I do want kids. I want to build a family. I want it all,” she continued.
I thought about all of this for a moment before speaking. The truth was, I hadn’t thought about any of this before. Kids, a family, a wedding, none of those things had ever been a priority to me.
I still considered myself young. Not to mention, Bianca and I had not been dating that long for me to consider marriage yet. However, I understand those things are usually what women spend their time thinking about and wanting in their future.
If I had to be honest, now that I was thinking about it, I would love to have that with Bianca. I knew she was the woman of my dreams and I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I had never felt this way about any other woman before, that was how I knew she was different. How I knew she was the one.
“Leo?” she questioned, waiting for me to respond.
“To be honest, I hadn’t really given any thought to those kinds of things. Being the Don in the mafia has been the only thing on my mind ever since Elio passed his title to me,” I admitted.
Her face fell slightly. “Oh...”
“But that’s not to say I don’t want those things now that I am thinking about it,” I quickly spoke.
“So, you would want to get married and have kids?” she asked, hope seeping back into her energy.
“With you?” I smiled. “Of course.”
A wide smile spread across her face laced with, what looked like, relief. I wasn’t sure why she would be relieved by this, but I didn’t bother asking.
“I would love any kids we had to death, just as I love you,” I assured her.
She hugged me tightly, kissing my cheeks and the tip of my nose repeatedly. “I’m so glad you feel that way.”
“I have to admit, I never actually wanted to become the Don. I was completely satisfied in the position I had before Leo named me the Don,” I told her, meaning every word. “When the time comes, I’d be more than willing to step down once I found a replacement.”
Again, her energy slightly shifted. “What do you mean, when the time comes?”
“Well, I mean, we are talking about the future, right?” I questioned. “I couldn’t start a family right now while Michael is still a serious threat. The last thing we would need is Michael seeing a baby as his next target.”
Her eyes began to scatter around her surroundings, as if she was processing what I was saying in a panic.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, quickly, reaching for her arm.
“Nothing,” she spoke quietly.
“Just because we can’t start a family now, doesn’t mean we can’t one day, my love,” I assured her, gently. “Michael is still very much a threat to us. That’s exactly why I’ve been so overprotective of you. He’s already targeted you. I’d be naïve to think he wouldn’t try again.”
She pulled away a little and leaned her back against the headboard of the bed. Still, she remained silent as she looked as though she was lost in her thoughts.
“Babe, I promise, once Michael is dead, we can absolutely revisit all of this, all right? Let me remove Michael from our lives before we have a big fancy wedding and have kids.”
She nodded slowly without looking at me. I wasn’t sure why she was being so distant and quiet all of a sudden. I thought she would understand the fact that if we even tried to have a wedding with Michael still alive, he would do everything in his power to destroy it.
And not to mention if we were to bring a baby into our lives right now, Michael would use that baby against me. He would target that baby and make it his life mission to destroy my family. He had already proved that to be true when he tried kidnapping Bianca.
I leaned over and kissed her forehead. “I promise, Bianca, I do want all of that with you. I just have to kill Michael before we can run off into the sunset, all right?”
She nodded her head, but met my eyes this time. I couldn’t tell why there was so much hurt behind her eyes.
I also wasn’t sure why getting married and having kids was so important to her right now. Especially, when we had never talked about it before. It wasn’t like the past couple of months had been easy on us, either. This was the first morning we had woken up together in weeks. I wondered what the reason was for the urgency.
“Is everything all right, babe?” I finally asked.
She is silent for a moment before she responds. “Can we go see my family for the holidays? I know before you made it seem like a bad idea, but I’ve decided I really want to go.”
I sighed, heavily. “Bianca, it’s not safe for us to leave the country right now. Michael could strike again at any moment. I need to be here. And I need you to be here so that I can protect you.”
“Leo, that’s not fair. I want to see my family. I miss my family. School is only out for another couple of weeks. Now is my chance to go,” she insisted.
I shook my head as I climbed out of bed. I walked over to the dresser and pulled out a pair of jeans. After slipping those on, I pulled a white t-shirt over my head.
“It’s just not something we can do right now, all right? I’m sorry,” I told her. “Maybe by the next holiday Michael will be dead and we can go to Italy.”
“By the next holiday?” She scoffed. “You’re joking?”
“No,” I said, simply.
“It’s my family, Leo,” she replied in an irritated tone. “And I want to see them.”
“I know, but it’s not possible right now,” I repeated the warning.
She moved her body so that it perched on the end of the bed. Her bare legs were hanging over with her feet touching the floor. She crossed her arms over her chest as her thinking face continued to remain in full force.
I felt bad that I had to tell her we couldn’t go see her family. I knew she missed them, but it just wasn’t a possibility for us right now.
I had no doubt that Taylor had disobeyed my one order yesterday. He must have gotten into her head and made her believe she could go home. I’ll have to have a little chat with him before I leave, I had thought to myself in an irritated fashion.
“Maybe I should go see my family by myself then,” she said quietly while looking down at the floor.
This had to be Taylor behind her thinking. Only Taylor would have nudged her in the direction of leaving me behind and going to Italy by herself. No. I couldn’t let this happen. I can’t protect her if she is in a whole other country!
“Is this Taylor’s doing?” I asked, attempting to keep my cool.
“No!” She jumped off the bed. “I’ve been wanting to go home for a little while and this holiday is my only chance. I don’t want to miss it, Leo. I understand if you can’t go because of Michael, but that doesn’t mean I have to be trapped here. Taylor would escort me to keep me safe until I made it to my family.”
“I need a minute,” I told her as I walked into the bathroom and closed the door.
I didn’t want to blow my anger up on her. I just needed a few minutes to sort out my thoughts because there was no way in hell I was letting her leave me.
