Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 1037 : Broken for Her
*Leo*
I had never felt this level of determination before.
My hand screamed with pain from where I broke it to get out of the cuffs but it seemed to dull as I pictured Bianca going into labor without me at her side.
I needed to be there. I would give anything, do anything to be at her side.
“Here, Leo,” Maria said in a low voice.
I hurried over to where she was braced against the gate of our cell. She was pushing her hands against the lock as if feeling for something. I watched in complete amazement as she pressed against it hard before giving it a swift kick. I heard something inside of the mechanism snap and my sister calmly pushed the gate open.
I didn’t have time to ask her how she was able to do that before we heard yelling from above us. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
“Brace yourself,” I warned Maria, quickly stepping out of the gate and grabbing a nearby chair to use as a weapon.
A couple of burly guards came rushing down the steps at that moment. I wasted no time in rushing forward and swinging the metal chair as hard as I could, successfully connecting it with the man closest to me.
Maria rushed forward and faced the other guard. She was an amazing fighter, as I had already witnessed but I was still transfixed as she made quick work of the man, charging forward and grabbing his wrist, and twisting it behind his back. She kicked him, sending him down to the cold floor.
“Little bitch!” he seethed, trying to push himself up. He was surprisingly fast and was able to spin around and face Maria. His face was angry, his eyes raging as he charged at her.
I dashed forward, preparing to help her but she didn’t need it. She timed it just right so that the guard lunged at her and she pivoted her body effectively dodging him. With a small smirk, she swung her elbow into the side of his head, knocking him out cold.
I relaxed for just a second before the two of us quickly searched the guards’ forms for weapons. We took their pistols and headed down the hall and up the steps.
Maria narrowed her eyes and flattened herself against the hall when we heard footsteps coming our way. I stood beside her, trying to peer around the corner without being spotted.
“Those damn Valentino’s are surrounding the place,” one guard said to another.
The other guard cursed in reply.
Maria and I exchanged serious looks as we continued to listen in on the conversation. It didn’t take too long to discern that the Angels had taken over the prison, causing dread to settle in my gut.
I gestured for Maria to follow me back down the steps. She did so without question.
“Strip the guards,” I ordered her. “We can use their clothes to disguise ourselves. It’s the only chance we have of making it out of here without being noticed. There’s going to be too many of them for us to fight our way out of here.”
Maria nodded and we started to pull the clothes off of the guards, moving swiftly and as quietly as we could.
The guards were slightly larger than I was but I had to hope that no one would notice. I glanced over at Maria to find that she was having the same dilemma only worse. Since she was a woman, the uniform was even more baggy on her.
“Tuck your shirt into the pants,” I told her. “It will look less suspicious.”
Maria did as I said, tucking the dark blue shirt into the pants. It helped immensely. There were bound to be female guards upstairs who also tucked in their uniforms. We just had to hope that as long as we kept our heads down and kept moving, no one would pay us much mind.
“Keep your head down,” I told Maria. “And keep moving.”
Maria actually narrowed her eyes at me. “I think I am perfectly capable of sneaking around.”
I opened my mouth but found that I had no response to that. I was still wrapping my head around the fact that this fierce woman was my sister. I just nodded and the two of us headed back up the steps.
I went up first, keeping Maria behind me. I didn’t know her and I was still unsure about the whole situation but that didn’t mean I was going to let her be killed if I could help it.
We past the first handful of guards without much issue. A couple of them glanced our way but I saw recognition in his eyes but not the dangerous kind. He clearly saw us as one of them and let us pass without a word.
We past several more guards before we eventually made it to the front of the building. I tried not to move too quickly so as not to attract attention but my need to get to Bianca was extremely powerful. Thankfully, some commotion outside caused some guards to scatter as they tried to keep the compound under control. It was the last distraction we needed to make our way outside.
We were just about to step out when we were suddenly blinded by a white light. I shot my arm out in front of Maria to shield her just as Andre jumped down from seemingly out of nowhere. It was clear from his fierce expression that he knew exactly who we were.
He stalked toward us, a sleek black gun clenched in his hand. It was aimed right at us. He laughed loudly, his low voice echoing around us. “I knew it was only a matter of time before you escaped,” he said icily. He shook his head as if he were a parent sorely disappointed in his children. He grinned, his teeth flashing. “Too bad your luck has finally run out. Things were going to get interesting.”
I clenched my jaw, narrowing my eyes at the man who has caused me so much grief lately. My blood boiled as I thought about the danger Bianca was in because of him, how she was dealing with this labor all on her own.
“Leo,” Maria said urgently.
My eyes darted around as we were suddenly surrounded by Angel members, all armed and ready to attack at the slightest sign of movement from us.
I felt my muscles locked up as my mind raced, trying to find a way out of this predicament. My body slowly relaxed when I realized that there wasn’t one. We were surrounded on all sides with the most ruthless crime lord just feet in front of us.
I had failed. I wasn’t going to make it back to Bianca after all. My heart lurched when I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to meet my child, and wouldn’t be able to hold them in my arms.
I hadn’t even realized how badly I wanted that until I was faced with the realization that it wasn’t going to happen.
I wasn’t going to go down without a fight though. I was going to keep moving forward for my family, even if I was never going to see them again.
Andre stepped forward, grinning evilly at us. “Oh, I am going to thoroughly enjoy watching you die,” he said.
I sucked in a breath and stood my ground, shooting up a final prayer for Bianca to stay safe and happy without me and for our child to be taken care of no matter what happened.
A flash of blue caught my peripheral and I cried out when Maria jumped in front of me, clearly attempting to shield me from Andre. I reached out to pull her back right when a shot rang out.
I froze, fear gripping my throat. My eyes widened when it was Andre, not Maria, who fell forward, red straining the front of his shirt, right where his heart was.
When Andre’s body fell to the dirt, chaos erupted. I looked up to find Franky on top of the building, his gun pointed at Andre.
I got dizzy when I realized that we were saved. Al and Franky were here.
My friends jumped down from the roof, landing confidently before rushing toward us, the rest of our men apprehending different Angel members.
I smirked at Franky, clapping him on the back with my good hand. “What took you so long?” I quipped, the relief causing me to chuckle.
It was Al who answered, his usual serious expression plastered across his angular face. “It would have been unwise to come to your aid sooner without knowing for certain that Andre was thoroughly distracted.”
I nodded with a grin. “Right,” I said. I set a hand on Al’s shoulder. “I owe you one.”
“Oh, you owe me several by this point,” Al quipped and I noticed one side of his mouth twitch upward. “But there’s no time to go over that right now. We have secured the compound as well.”
My chest twisted with fear. “Bianca-” I started to say, the words getting caught in my throat.
Franky’s face was sympathetic. “All attempts we’ve made to contact her have failed,” he said. “As you are well aware, you are the only one who can open the safe room.”
“Go to your woman, Leo,” Al ordered.
I nodded but then grimaced, showing the two my broken hand. “I won’t be able to drive like this,” I told them. “I had to break it to get out of the cuffs. Could one of you-”
“I’ll take you to your family, Leo,” Maria said firmly, stepping forward.
“You-” Al started, lifting his gun to aim at her.
“Wait, don’t,” I said, stepping between them. “She is why I was able to escape.”
Maria didn’t back down, even though both Franky and Al were glowing at her heatedly. She straightened her shoulders, tilting her chin up slightly. “I know that I’ve done wrong,” she said. “I am prepared to turn myself in as soon as I bring Leo to his family.”
Al’s nostrils flared. “You expect us to trust you after everything-”
I stepped forward, cutting him off. “Al, it’s fine,” I assured him. “I trust her. She has turned herself in before. I have no doubt that she’ll do so again.”
Franky frowned but he and Al shared a look and they eventually nodded and stepped aside to let us pass.
“If you back out on your word, we will track you down,” Al told Maria darkly. “And I promise you that you don’t want that.”
Maria clearly wasn’t intimidated. She nodded, one jerky bob of her head.
We turned to go.
“Leo.”
I turned to give Franky a questioning look.
My best friend’s face was serious but there was something compassionate behind his eyes. “Good luck,” he said. Then, he smirked. “Don’t screw it up.”
Hope bloomed in my chest and I nodded before Maria and I hurried off.
