Chapter 226: Chapter 221 How are you two here?

Chapter 226 -221 How are you two here?

He was really faking it!

Zheng Tan watched the person below through the gaps in the wooden planks.

When those three people had entered, Zheng Tan had thought this bound individual was just some spoiled rich kid with an immature mind and a child’s temper, especially with that incident of crying so hard with tears and snot flowing. Anyone would think this person was nothing but a good-for-nothing spendthrift.

Not everyone can cry on cue with such convincing effect. Considering the dramatic contrast between his previous and current state, Zheng Tan thought this person could easily snatch an Oscar.

Moreover, it wasn’t just the acting skills—Zheng Tan hadn’t expected him to hide his abilities so well. The ropes that had bound him were easily untied without Zheng Tan noticing, which wasn’t something just anyone could do. And if he could get rid of the ropes that quickly, how did he end up getting beaten so badly that he was in such a sorry state?

He was either a ruthless character or simply insane.

Zheng Tan stared at the person below, who, while nibbling on the bun in his hand, also stared intently at Zheng Tan’s location.

“Who are you?” the man asked, “Perhaps we could collaborate. I’m not interested in that batch of goods. If you want them, they’re all yours.”

Zheng Tan was clueless about the “goods” the man mentioned, which definitely wasn’t referring to the low-quality food he had seen. Still, Zheng Tan guessed that Senior Hetao’s goal was probably that so-called “goods.”

So, if this person wasn’t here for those goods, why had he come?

Seeing no movement or response from above, the man stuffed the last bit of the bun into his mouth, wiped his hands on his cyan cotton coat, then jumped onto the case table beside him and pushed against the wooden ceiling panels.

Zheng Tan had quickly left his original spot when the man started moving, staying out of the room’s area and hiding behind a wooden beam, listening to the activity on the other side.

It seemed that the man had no intention of opening up the ceiling to escape from above. After a while, Zheng Tan heard the sound of a door lock. Peering through the gap, he saw the door confining the man cracked open slightly, the largest gap it could make before being unlocked. The man extended two fingers, with something clasped between them, toward the keyhole of the lock.

Having seen Ermao pick locks before, Zheng Tan was not that surprised by this person’s actions. There were many capable people in the world.

In a matter of seconds, the man unlocked the door, exited the room, and began searching through the surrounding rooms.

Zheng Tan didn’t know what he was looking for and was quite curious, so he followed from above. Not too closely, though—Zheng Tan was still very wary of the man. With those skills, he was probably no less capable than Ermao, and he was even more secretive; Zheng Tan had to be cautious.

After looking through a few rooms, the man entered the room filled with cargo, finding the door locks a piece of cake.

Zheng Tan only saw the man rummage through a few opened boxes before he tore open a sealed one, rummaged inside, and pulled out a bag of “XX milk tea”. He tore a small hole, sniffed it, then dabbed a bit to taste.

Watching his actions, Zheng Tan speculated, could there be something else hidden inside?

Were those substandard food products merely a cover for these items?

The sourc𝗲 of this content is frёeωebɳovel.com.

And what about the thing the man had earlier? Could it be some illegal “medicine”?

If so, those places up in the mountains were probably the production sites, no wonder Senior Hetao decided to risk going there.

The man then changed his position, his back to Zheng Tan, who could not see what he was doing with his hands. About a minute later, the man looked up toward Zheng Tan’s location and asked in a low voice, as if talking to himself, “What exactly are you?” He had realized when he pushed on the ceiling panels that they were too fragile to support the weight of an adult human. Moreover, being freely mobile up there was not something a human could easily do.

After finding the items, the man didn’t linger and went downstairs.

Zheng Tan waited for a bit, hearing no noise from below, lifted the ceiling panel, and carefully made his way downstairs.

Although there hadn’t been any noise, upon reaching the stairs, Zheng Tan saw a person lying there, still breathing but with hands bound, tied up with the same rope that had earlier bound the redhead.

Glancing around, Zheng Tan went to look into each room, and aside from several bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom on the first floor, there was also the surveillance room. Inside one bedroom, there was a person lying down, also bound and unconscious. As for the surveillance room, the person in the grey coat lay on the floor, and the three had one thing in common—their faces were brutally beaten. Whether other parts of their bodies had been similarly beaten, Zheng Tan couldn’t tell for the moment.

The redhead was working on something with a USB drive in the surveillance room. Shortly after, he pulled out the USB, stood up, and walked out, listening to something on an earpiece he had apparently taken from somewhere, then frowned as he looked toward the mountains, speeding up his pace.

He had put his leather jacket back on, ready to leave.

However, he hadn’t gone far when he suddenly stopped and pulled out a dagger—something he had grabbed while inside the house.

Zheng Tan had been watching from a window on the first floor, and upon sensing something was wrong, he immediately dashed outside.

A figure rushed toward the redhead from the side; the redhead preparing to swing his knife. But another dark shape burst out, intercepting in the middle.
