Chapter 86: The Fake Daughter

"This is not right, sis!" Rubina’s voice trembled as she joined the protest. Her sightless eyes searched the room, as if Rivana’s actions had shaken her foundation. "You are disrespecting Dad by pulling these tricks," she accused, her voice strained with emotion.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she continued, her body trembling visibly. Her helper reached out to steady her, holding her arm gently. "I know you want to slander us, put dirt on our name," Rubina said, her words choked with frustration. "You’re doing all this to throw us out, right? Just do it now! Don’t play dirty games."

Rivana stood still, her gaze steady as she watched Rubina’s outburst. She could feel the shift in the room—several staff members already sympathized with Rubina. The glares from the helpers and maids were clear enough. That had always been the case: people felt more for those who seemed weak, helpless, and kind. Rubina had perfected the art of looking like the victim in every situation.

"Don’t worry," Rivana replied coolly, her voice cutting through the tension like a blade. "I will definitely throw you out if you turn out to be fake."

Her words sent a wave of shock through the room. Rubina’s eyes widened slightly before a loud cry escaped her lips. Turning abruptly, she clung to her helper, who quickly assisted her toward the stairs. They rushed up, her sobs echoing faintly as they disappeared from view.

Amerie hissed sharply, her glare piercing as she looked first at the guards, then at Rivana. Without a word, she stormed upstairs, her movements brisk and fueled by fury.

Once everything was handled at the Faye Mansion, and all the plans were set into motion just as they had intended, Callum walked Rivana out of the house.

"To Faye Corporations?" he asked, glancing at her. Rivana nodded.

Leonora grabbed Rivana’s hand as they headed to the car. "Is he going to follow you throughout the day?" she whispered, throwing a furtive glance at Callum.

"Seems so," Rivana replied, her tone matter-of-fact as they continued walking. Both women stared at Callum’s back as he strode ahead, talking on the phone.

Rivana turned to Leonora, observing her friend’s uneasy demeanor. It looked as if she was itching to escape. "What exactly did you do at lunch the other day?" Rivana probed, narrowing her eyes.

"You know what, I need to go see my mom," Leonora blurted out, a little too loudly.

"But isn’t she busy with a campaign and not due to return until next month?" Rivana reminded her, her tone genuinely curious.

Leonora bit her tongue, looking more flustered when Callum’s gaze briefly turned toward her. Her cheeks reddened as she stammered, "My dog’s mom! I need to see my dog’s mom, hahaha."

"But you don’t have a dog," Rivana said bluntly.

Leonora forced out a strained smile, suppressing the urge to throttle her friend. "I’ll call you later," she said hastily before making a beeline for her car. Without looking back, she sped off, leaving Rivana tilting her head in confusion.

Rivana turned to Callum as he approached. "Did she cause any trouble last night?" she asked.

Clearing his throat, Callum avoided her gaze, his ears reddening slightly as he tried to maintain a neutral expression. "She got drunk. My team had a hard time dropping her home," he admitted.

"Oh," Rivana murmured, nodding in understanding. Before she could ask any further questions, Callum opened the car door for her. She climbed in but chose the passenger seat instead of the back, signaling the driver to move.

Once they reached the Faye Corporation building, Rivana quickly headed to her office, deciding to meet with Mathew first. As soon as he heard she had arrived, Mathew hurried in.

"What took you so long?" Mathew asked, taking a seat across from her. His gaze shifted to Callum, and a knowing smile tugged at his lips. "The young man here really threw a feast yesterday," he teased.

"I went to the Faye Mansion," Rivana explained, her tone calm as she leaned back in her chair. With a sigh, she added, "I’m getting DNA tests done again."

Mathew blinked in confusion. "Why?"

"I feel like Amerie isn’t my mother," Rivana replied bluntly.

Mathew frowned, his expression softening. "It’s just because she doesn’t treat you well, dear," he said, trying to console her. Her blank tone, devoid of any emotion, made his chest tighten with sympathy.

Rivana shook her head slowly. In her past life, she had thought the same. She had believed that Amerie hated her existence, treating her as if she weren’t her daughter. It made sense to think Amerie sucked up to Rubina because loyalty to Rubina ensured her position in the household. But this time, things felt different—especially after she found that photograph.

"What exactly happened back then, Uncle?" Rivana asked, her eyes steady. "How did Grandma allow Dad to bring in a mistress?"

Mathew sighed, the weight of the past evident on his face. "It was a mess," he began, his voice low. "When Margaret learned Amerie had drugged your father and used him, and that he didn’t love her, she was completely against the idea. Even when Amerie showed up pregnant, Margaret kicked her out immediately. It caused a scandal—Faye Corporation was on the verge of collapse."

Rivana and Callum listened intently as Mathew paused, gathering his thoughts. His brows furrowed slightly as he added, "But two years later, suddenly Margaret brought Amerie and you into the family. She even held a press conference, declaring you both as part of the Faye family with equal rights to Rafaelo and Rubina."

Mathew turned to Callum, as though emphasizing the oddity. "Those two years," he continued, "I heard that Susannah—your later mother-in-law—took care of you."

Rivana nodded in acknowledgment. She had heard the story before. Since Margaret didn’t accept them, Amerie had nowhere to go and Sussanah looked after them. Her thoughts swirled as she tried to piece the puzzle together. Both she and Rubina were born two years difference apart, making it even harder to pinpoint what might have happened.

"Oh, yeah!" Mathew’s voice broke through her thoughts. "Gianna was away for a few months with Emmerich before the press conference. But when they returned, they brought Rubina with them. No one had any clue she was pregnant with a second child."

"Emmerich claimed they had gone away to ensure Gianna could give birth peacefully since looking at the two-year-old you and Amerie at house spoiled her mood. But it always seemed... odd."

Callum, who had been quietly observing, made a mental note of the timeline. Those missing months seemed crucial—whatever happened during that period had forced Margaret Faye to accept Amerie and her daughter into the family. He resolved to have his team investigate Gianna’s whereabouts during that time.

Rivana sighed, the web of secrets tightening around her. Her temples throbbed, the headache building as the complexity of the situation overwhelmed her. Nothing seemed to add up, and it left her feeling drained.

"No matter what the results are, you’ll still be Faye’s chairman, sweetie," Mathew said, his tone reassuring. When Rivana looked at him, he added, "Emmerich was legally the owner, and since he named you as his successor, you’ll inherit everything."

Rivana nodded with a small smile. But her relief was fleeting, replaced by a bigger headache. Why had Emmerich chosen to leave everything to her instead of dividing it among his children? It felt like a puzzle with too many missing pieces. But in just a few days, everything would come to light and she needed to be patient until then.
