Global Game: I Can Choose Instance Rewards-Chapter 547 - 372: Communication and Other Players 2
"I didn’t expect such a discovery on the second layer. After taking down the Crocodile Monster, the water and fish in the environment didn’t disappear. Although the fish are few and small, this means this place is not just a hideout; we might be able to obtain more resources on other layers and calmly survive this difficult mission."
The small fish hadn’t finished roasting yet, but the aroma of the meat had already spread. William maintained the stability of the flame using his professional abilities while analyzing the situation with his companion Zakharova.
"Makes sense, I think we can indeed consider not leaving this place for now... The difficulty of this mission is very high, and it’s highly probable that other places are not as safe as here."
While Zakhanova was grilling over the fire William made, she agreed with his assessment.
William was about to say more when he suddenly frowned, removed a hand from maintaining the fire, and pulled a black beetle out of his pocket.
The beetle was very small and inconspicuous, yet it moved its wings rhythmically, seemingly with intelligence. A closer look would reveal its unnatural actions.
"David is using his little bug to request communication? He managed to evade tracking as well."
Zakharova, who was roasting fish, glanced at the beetle William took out and said with a hint of surprise.
Mage William had already begun using the beetle in his hand to convey messages. This was something his summoner companion had given him long ago, supposedly a very special insect from an interstellar mission that could facilitate communication over large distances using a spiritual power network of the swarm. This communication was notoriously difficult to interrupt or decipher, boasting high stability and confidentiality.
"I can communicate here. David, how’s your situation over there?"
William first inquired about his companion’s status, constructing a mental bridge with the beetle in hand and speaking in his mind, utilizing the spiritual power of the insect swarm to relay the message to the other end.
Within two seconds, he sensed a familiar voice conveyed through the beetle into his mind:
"William, things are terrible here. There are people searching for us everywhere with the constant risk of exposure. I barely found a chance to contact you. Where on earth have you disappeared to?"
"I’m in the desert, grilling fish by a waterhole."
William immediately replied in his mind, with a teasing tone. However, it was purely friendly banter and not gloating.
"William, this is not the time for jokes."
As expected, the next moment, the response came with a serious tone, considering he was wasting a precious communication opportunity.
"I’m not joking, David. You can use your professional abilities to probe my surroundings. I’ll make an exception and won’t consider it an offense."
To quickly earn his trust, William chose an unconventional method, allowing his summoner companion, the original owner of the black beetle, to use it as a medium to probe his surroundings.
He used to be resistant to such actions as it infringed on his privacy, but the current situation was different, and nothing was more convincing than letting the other party verify it themselves.
"William, are you sure? Then I’ll begin."
David confirmed William wasn’t joking and quickly used his professional abilities to remotely control the black beetle in William’s hand, using the insect’s spiritual power network to perceive the surroundings accurately. This was the most trusted probing method for any magical profession.
A second later, David’s exclamation rang within William’s mind:
"OH! GOD! You and Nova are actually grilling fish by a waterhole! You guys are really taking it easy! But you did lie about being in the desert!"
The other party confirmed most of what William said was true, though the initial location he mentioned was entirely wrong, as the surrounding environment detected was very unlikely to be in a desert.
"David, I didn’t lie to you. We’re currently inside a magical Black Tower divided into many layers; each layer offers different environments, and the Black Tower itself lies in the desert where we initially arrived..."
William explained while walking to the stairs leading to the second level, letting David verify his claims through the black beetle. He even descended back to the first level to show David a distinct arena environment before eventually reaching the Black Tower’s entrance, confirming their location within the desert Black Tower.
"This is simply incredible! William, I think you found the hidden shortcut to clear this mission! I’ll hurry to bring people to meet you there!"
Such a revelation energized David on the other end of the spiritual communication as if he had discovered a new continent. He expressed intent to reach the desert Black Tower, aware of its exact location, with David’s corresponding black beetle in hand serving as the safest guide.
Upon receiving his response, a dubious feeling crept into William, who quickly questioned:
"Did you say you’ll bring people? Who else would there be?"
The other side swiftly explained:
"It’s other players I encountered after escaping! They landed on the other side of the large town and are likewise targeted by the natives! We’ll explain more when we meet you! Those natives are coming again in their Mecha!"
The communication abruptly ended, leaving William with an incomplete picture of the situation on David’s side. However, he sensed the desert Black Tower was about to become busier than ever.
Based on mission personnel estimates, he foresaw at least ten players heading to the point, potentially undershooting the actual number. This approximation, given the mission’s challenging enemies, often sees a larger player count as a hidden mission balancing mechanism.
The reality matched William’s suspicion. David was indeed with many players, twelve to be exact, gathered together in a narrow underground tunnel carved with the help of their bugs.
The players displayed tension, marked by the traces of intense battles, such as bleeding wounds and clothes charred black. Though they hid in the dark tunnel, they were keenly aware of the surface situation, fearing discovery at any second.
Players with faces from Xia Country, India, Mei Country, and more; all were high-level entities whose combat skills were up to par. Yet, they were restricted by the overwhelming indigenous enemy’s unity and numbers—a tiger subdued by a pack of wolves.
With the unsettling noise overhead drawing nearer, the concealed players predicted their hideout was about to be discovered, potentially initiating a new round of breakout fights.
The question lingered: How many more such fights could they endure? Could they truly survive the month-long ordeal?
Sure enough, within two seconds, the most perceptive player confirmed indigenous people deliberately gathering, heralding the start of imminent combat.
"Get ready to fight! Remember to scatter and break out first! Survivors regroup later using the old method! Make it through this mission together!"
Spoke a square-faced Xia Country male in a low voice, preparing to use his power for an unusual escape from the tunnel.
Yet, a white player who had used summons to dig this tunnel abruptly spoke:
"Ladies and gentlemen! I’ve discovered through a companion a location to hide until we clear the mission! Who has a fast and stealthy large vehicle? I will lead the way!"
