Stolen By My Billionaire Brother-In-Law-Chapter 74: Kneel And Beg
[Next Day]
Rivana took a deep breath, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She had woken up to an empty space beside her. Not seeing him when she woke up seemed like a bad omen, and it gnawed at her mind.
She finished straightening her hair, sighing for what felt like the hundredth time since she woke up. She kept looking at her phone, wondering how late Azrael would be. He had left a message that he had some business to take care of and would be there with her before the board meeting that was bound to take place today. He had repeatedly assured her not to worry about Rafaelo, but she just couldn’t calm her nerves.
Xander’s face kept flashing in front of her, and his father’s image haunted her worse than a horror movie scene. He was an influential minister in their country, and if this secret blew up, her entire life would go off the rails again.
Just then, a knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Leonora opened the door and entered.
"Oh, you are all set!" Leonora walked over with a smile. She was carrying a tray containing breakfast and coffee.
"Ah, I need this! Thank you," Rivana murmured, quickly grabbing the coffee cup.
"Eat something first. You have a long day ahead." Leonora grumbled but didn’t force her as Rivana sipped her coffee. She might end up throwing up with the stress that kept her on edge.
"Will your husband be at the meeting?" Rivana murmured.
"I think so," she replied and sighed again.
"He’d definitely come. Don’t worry." Leonora patted her head. The way Azrael had rushed at just one phone call last night showed how much he cared for Rivana. She just hoped they had found something to checkmate Rafaelo. That sick guy was so eager to show the video to the world, and she doubted even if Rivana gave up the Faye groups, he would still do it anyway.
Rivana nodded and gained strength from the coffee. Once she was done, they quickly left for the meeting.
They reached the Faye Corporation, and Mathew greeted them at the entrance as if he had been waiting for her for hours.
"I think many will take your side today," Mathew informed her, guiding her toward the elevator. He had talked with all the board members, and many preferred to stand with Rivana rather than against her. She would win by a big margin at the meeting, but his problem was Rafaelo.
"Planned anything for him?" Mathew asked in a low voice. He had no clue what Rafaelo had against Rivana, but he was pretty confident that he couldn’t sleep at night, imagining the future of Faye’s if it fell into that useless brat’s hands.
Rivana wasn’t exactly sure if she had anything planned, but she still nodded in response. Azrael seemed confident, and she put all her trust in him.
"Good! If you hand over after winning, the board members might get pissed badly." Mathew stated his worries. Many would even file lawsuits and absurd fake allegations that his department would be thrown into hell to save Faye’s reputation.
They arrived at the Chairman’s floor, and Jeremy greeted her with a smile.
"Would you like a cup of coffee, Madam?" Jeremy asked with a smile. Looking at the time, he added, "We still have time, and a few board members are yet to arrive."
"Yes, please." Rivana nodded with a smile, and they all walked to her office.
---
[A Few Minutes Later]
In the meeting room, everyone had gathered, and Jeremy’s team was making sure the board members were taken care of. When Rivana entered, everyone rose from their seats. Some were reluctant and only followed the others, but it still surprised her. She glanced at Mathew and Jeremy, who were equally surprised by their gesture.
"Seems like your badass intro yesterday is keeping them on their toes," Leonora commented, and Rivana broke into a small smile.
She nodded and gestured for them to take seats before sitting on the main chair at the long table. She looked at the three members who had teamed up to meet her level of shares. Their grim expressions made it clear that they had stuck with their decisions. She noticed that many were smiling at her, unlike yesterday. Her first appearance had indeed come out bold and seemed to have worked in a positive way.
Jeremy stepped forward and greeted them all. "Good morning, everyone. Today, we will start voting for the chairman position." He showed the small remotes in front of them and instructed, "Please use these remotes to cast your vote."
With a smile, he added, "Don’t worry, your votes will remain anonymous. Only the results will be shown later."
All the board members nodded, taking the remotes. They thought this was unnecessary, but it seemed like they were doing it to put on social media, to write articles so Rivana would get a clean slate. This would prove that they all agreed with Emmerich’s decision and trusted Rivana. The online war of how this was unfair to the real heirs, Rubina and Rafaelo, would die with this since the main pioneers of the corporation had no problem with it.
Everyone placed their votes, and Jeremy’s team, sitting in the small room attached to the meeting hall, worked on calculating the results. After a few minutes, one of them walked out to inform the results.
She walked over to Jeremy and told him first before working on putting the results on the screen.
Everyone turned to the large screen, and Rivana’s eyes were fixed on it too. The screen displayed a pie chart with 92% green for "Yes" and 8% red for "No."
Mathew declared with a smile, "With the majority of votes, Ms. Faye is now officially the Chairman of Faye Groups."
Everyone clapped and cheered at the news. Leonora squealed, hugging Rivana tightly in joy. The mood was jubilant, the atmosphere filled with congratulations and relief. It was a moment of triumph, a turning point for Rivana and the company.
Rivana forced out a smile, her mind still running with doubts. She wasn’t sure if it was a celebration of her victory or the downfall that was yet to barge in the form of Rafaelo.
Turning to the board members, she said, "Thank you for giving me a chance. I will work hard and prove you have made the right choice." She then bowed to them respectfully.
Many board members smiled at her gesture. They all nodded, content with their decision.
"We should throw a party and celebrate you taking over the company," one of the board members suggested with a smile. "You will need to meet with our partners and get to know them."
Rivana smiled but shook her head. "I don’t think this is the right time to throw a party. He just left us, and..."
Everyone understood her concerns. Many would immediately paint it like she was celebrating his death as if waiting for this day. Knowing how much hate she received for being a mistress’s child, there would only be more backlash, and it would hurt the company.
Once everyone was out after congratulating her, Rivana slumped into her chair and sighed out loud. She glanced at Leonora, who shook her head, conveying that Rafaelo hadn’t done anything funny online yet. She had been checking it every few seconds, and even her team was on this task. Rivana sighed and massaged her temples.
"Think of the devil," Mathew muttered in frustration.
Rivana looked up and saw Rafaelo entering the room. He had come with someone new, whom she believed was his newly appointed assistant. He had prepared for his grand entry and arranged everything to take over as chairman.
Rafaelo glanced at the scene before turning to Rivana, "Oh, you won with a huge number." He walked over, brushed past her, and took the chair.
He looked at Mathew and Jeremy and ordered, "You are dismissed." When they didn’t budge, he scowled and growled, "Are you deaf? I am politely asking you to get out. Don’t test my patience."
Rivana side-glanced and nodded to them. They both sighed and reluctantly left the room, followed by their team members. Now, it was just Rivana, Leonora, and Rafaelo in the room.
Glancing at Leonora, Rafaelo barked, "Do you need a special message to get out?"
"I am not leaving her alone with you," Leonora sneered back at him.
Rafaelo scoffed and ignored her, his eyes fixing on Rivana. Swirling in the chair, he smiled at her. "So, all set to handover?" he questioned.
Leonora muttered a curse under her breath while Rivana calmly stared at him, trying her best not to lose her composure in front of him.
Rafaelo continued, "Oh, don’t worry. I have prepared all the documents. All you need to do is sign." He then turned around to his assistant, who quickly passed the papers in a file.
Rafaelo threw them on the table and demanded, "Sign it."
When Rivana didn’t budge, he threatened, "What? Are you eager to be all over the internet?"
Rivana took a deep breath and looked at it. "I will sign, but you need to delete that video first."
"Anna!" Leonora tried to stop her friend, but Rivana shook her head, asking her to trust her. She needed to buy time until her husband was here, and she prayed he’d arrive soon.
Rafaelo smiled, having expected this from his smart sister. He nodded in agreement, "Fine. But you need to ask properly."
Rivana raised her eyebrow in confusion, and he continued, "Kneel and beg for it." He crossed his leg and shook his shoe, enjoying the power trip.
Rivana realized he was getting back at her for what she did to him and Rubina a few days ago. When she didn’t budge, he added, "I will consider it after you ask nicely."
Rivana took a deep breath, clenching her fists. She decided to comply, as it would buy her more time. Just before she could agree, they heard a voice from the entrance.
"Looks like we are late. The dog has already started barking loudly."
