Chapter 58: Dangerous But Sweet

Ezekiel and Callum glanced at each other, while Azrael had already guessed it. If Emmerich had truly died of a heart attack, he would have ensured his children inherited his shares. It seemed as if Emmerich had seen this coming and, aware of who might be behind it, surprised everyone by turning Rivana into his successor.

"It belonged only to you anyway." That line still lingered in Azrael’s head. He needed to read that letter a few more times thoroughly, of course, with Rivana’s permission.

Sebastian heaved a small sigh. Looking up at her, he continued, "A few maids who had been working for decades were replaced last year. It was exactly after Emmerich went on a trip and returned almost a week later."

Rivana recalled that memory. Yes, she had been surprised too when she heard her father was taking time off from work, but with no definite return date. It was suspicious for a man who loved his job more than his life.

"They were loyal to Madam Faye. Oddly, they were suddenly forced to retire now when they could have been replaced right after her death."

The pieces didn’t fit together, but something was off. Rivana could only find answers if she visited the mansion herself.

"How do you know?" Azrael questioned Sebastian.

"I contacted one last night, thinking they were still working at the mansion. They shared the details," Sebastian answered, his eyes moving to Rivana. They also made sure to brief about Rivana, pressing how her marriage had become a scandal and she was now under a lot of pressure.

"Can you ask one of them to meet us?" Azrael continued, still suspicious of his answer.

Sebastian’s expression changed at his order. "I don’t think they are ready. It will only put them in danger," he replied, the tension in the room rising as their stares locked.

Worried that his nephew might do something to upset Rivana, Ezekiel decided to break the tension. After all, Sebastian seemed close to her and must have supported her while she survived in the mansion after Azrael was dragged out of the city.

"Alright. It’s time for lunch!" Ezekiel clapped his hands, and George instantly went to arrange for it. Smiling at Sebastian, he added, "Let’s discuss this later."

He got up and escorted Sebastian to the dining hall. When the young man turned to Rivana, Callum stepped in between them and smiled, gesturing toward the dining hall.

Rivana got up to follow the men, but Azrael caught her wrist and pulled her back. Rivana yelped in surprise, her heart racing as she fell into her husband’s arms.

"What... what are you doing?" Rivana tried to get up, but Azrael held her waist and pulled her back. She hit his chest, his intense gaze pinning her in the scandalous spot between his legs. "We are in the hall! Leave me," she whispered urgently.

"Did you have a history?" Azrael questioned her, his eyes squinting as if he were interrogating her.

Rivana blinked, and then it hit her. Her husband was getting jealous. She cupped his face and asked, "Why? Are you jealous?"

"Answer me," Azrael demanded, his fingers tightening around her waist.

Rivana’s body heated up, sparks dancing along her skin. "No. We were just friends," she answered. But when Azrael still looked unsatisfied, she leaned closer and pecked his lips.

Leaning back with a smile, she caressed his cheek and added, "Fate has gifted me such a handsome husband, so I have no plans of ditching him. For now."

"For now?" Azrael repeated, his brow raised in a challenge. She had initiated a kiss, and he didn’t need a better confirmation. But it was still fun to tease her.

"Yes," Rivana nodded. "Whether I want to stay with you or not, it will depend entirely on how you treat me."

Azrael’s lips lifted in a low smirk. Caressing her lower lip, he leaned closer and whispered in her ear, "I will make sure to treat you well. Especially when we are alone."

His warm breath tingled her ear, sending goosebumps down her neck. A blush crept up her cheeks, and she hit his chest. Pushing him away, she stood up and adjusted her dress.

Azrael got up too. Holding her hand, he kissed her fingers and added, "Let’s not keep our guest waiting." Rivana blushed even harder at the touch as they walked to the dining hall.

Lunch followed with Ezekiel chatting with Sebastian, mainly related to his profession and such things. Sebastian couldn’t help but steal glances at the couple sitting opposite him. He observed how Azrael took care of Rivana, from cutting her steak into smaller pieces to filling her glass of water and passing her tissues. Callum observed it too and decided never to sit together with them again. Azrael wasn’t the cold, arrogant devil when he was with his wife, and Callum just couldn’t endure such a sweet side of him.

After lunch ended, Rivana walked Sebastian out. Luckily, Ezekiel dragged Azrael to discuss some work, leaving the two alone.

"I’m glad you didn’t marry Viktor," Sebastian remarked.

Rivana smiled at his comment. Sebastian knew she had a long crush on Viktor and was the first person to ask about it. When she had agreed, he had asked her to think carefully again. He seemed to have seen how it would end, and she wished she had considered his suggestion. But again, if she had, she would never have gotten a second chance and ended up marrying Azrael.

"But your current husband seems just as bad as him." Sebastian didn’t hesitate to say it. He had always been blunt and straightforward, and that’s what Rivana liked about him.

"He isn’t that bad," Rivana replied with a smile. "He might seem cold and dangerous to strangers, but people who know him won’t agree with it." She defended Azrael, not realizing it had brought a frown to Sebastian’s lips.

Sebastian was disappointed that she had indirectly called him a stranger. But he needed to blame himself for ghosting her after high school.

As they descended the stairs, Sebastian heaved a sigh. Turning to her, he said, "Rest well, Riva. Call me when you are visiting Faye mansion." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Rivana nodded with a smile. "And don’t hesitate to ask if you need any help. Setting up a clinic will be hard, and the city has changed a lot in the past few years."

Sebastian nodded as his car was brought by the valet. Waving at her, he drove off, and Rivana walked inside the mansion.

As Sebastian drove out of the mansion, he parked the car on the side of the road. Taking out his phone, he searched through his contacts and dialed Viktor’s number.

The call was picked up instantly. "He seems to have wrapped her around his finger. You need to try harder to get her back."

Viktor grumbled a few curses from the other end.

Sebastian sighed and added, "She even has Faye Group in her name. You can’t let her slip away."

"Then what should I do?"

Sebastian smirked, knowing Viktor had fallen right into his trap. "Let’s meet. I have a plan," he said, his eyes glinting with malice.
