Chapter 53: Unwanted Gift

"What?" Amerie gasped, her jaw almost dropping to the ground. "No, he must have been mistaken! Check again, Lawyer! They have almost similar names and you must have read it wrong!" she murmured, rushing over to him.

Snatching away the will, she skipped all the lines and focused on Rubina’s name. But instead, it was Rivana Faye, bold and daunting to her. She felt yet again being slapped in the face tonight, her fingers clutching the paper tightly.

Meanwhile, Rivana stood equally perplexed. Surely, there must be a mistake. Emmerich despised her existence; in fact, he never bothered if she existed or not. There was no way he would give all the management rights solely to her.

Gianna moved closer and snatched the paper away from Amerie. She read the will, line by line, word by word, stopping at the signature and seal of her late husband. She scoffed, realizing he had once again abandoned them, stabbing them right in the back.

Rafaelo, still in shock, moved over and took the paper from his mom’s hand. Rubina, in her chair, was equally confused, her eyes wandering all over the room, hoping someone would explain what was happening there.

Rafaelo read the will, Rivana’s name mocking him. He clutched the paper, crumpling it into a ball. Throwing it away, he moved forward and tried to attack Rivana.

"This bitch must have fabricated it!" he growled, lunging at Rivana, but Azrael swiftly came in between.

"Get out of our family business!" Rafaelo growled at him. But Azrael was stronger, easily twisting Rafaelo’s hand behind his back that had dared to raise against his wife.

"But she is family," Azrael replied, twisting his hand further.

Gianna quickly came to rescue her son. "Leave him!" she shouted, trying to stop Azrael from breaking Rafaelo’s hand.

Azrael pushed Rafaelo away before adjusting his shirt. Meanwhile, the lawyer picked up the will and sighed. With scorn, he murmured, "Tossing it away doesn’t change what’s already written in it, young man."

"She gets the major shares while you get the Fenxico to run. Accept it," the lawyer continued, speaking more as Emmerich’s friend than his legal representative.

Rafaelo sneered in response. Fenxico was a small finance company his father had started a few months ago, and they wanted him to settle for something that low? He glared at Rivana one last time before storming out of the room.

Gianna sighed out loud. Picking her bag, she turned around to leave, but Mathew stopped her again.

"Bring him for the funeral, Gianna," Mathew murmured, his voice almost begging. Since Rafaelo was Emmerich’s firstborn, it would look odd and create ridicule if he missed it.

"He already has his successor," Gianna replied with scorn. "There’s no need for us to show up." With that, she stormed out of the room.

Amerie didn’t wait anymore. Walking to Rubina, she made her stand up. Glaring at Rivana one last time, she escorted her out. Though she hated it, joining hands with Gianna was necessary to carry out their next move to bring down Rivana. She shouldn’t get even a small share of Faye, and they needed to make sure of it.

Mathew sighed as the women left the room. And these were the people who claimed to be family, who loved Emmerich with all their heart. He scoffed at the thought before following them out to convince them.

Even the doctor and his team left, leaving the couple alone in the empty room.

Rivana heaved a sigh, feeling her heart banging against her chest in worry. There were too many questions, too many doubts, and preparing his funeral all alone. Her shoulders felt heavy, as if bearing a mountain of burden, making her dizzy.

Azrael supported her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. Rivana turned around and rested her head on his chest, trying to steady herself.

Azrael softly caressed her head, his heart clenching at her misery. He didn’t care what Emmerich’s intention or motive behind his cruel move was, but he did no good to Rivana even after death. Resting his chin over her head, he murmured, "We will manage it together."

Rivana nodded in silence. She had never desired a part of Faye’s wealth. Everyone kept telling her she wasn’t worthy of getting a share, mainly because of her birth. That had stuck in her head since childhood, giving her inspiration to start her own business. But now, suddenly being pushed into this fire again—no, she wasn’t ready to suffer in it.

"I’ll be fine," Rivana replied softly, trying to boost herself. Breaking the hug, she looked up and asked, "Just be there with me."

Azrael cupped her cheek and reassured her, "I will always be here with you."

Rivana smiled at him, placing a hand over his on her cheek. Having him felt like a huge strength. Together, they walked out of the room.

Leonora rushed forward and inquired, "Are you alright?" Everyone left with fuming faces, making her sure that a bomb must have exploded inside.

Ezekiel walked over to Azrael, followed by Callum. As he explained briefly, both exchanged surprised looks. They turned to Rivana and could only sigh, feeling bad for the poor woman. Emmerich had pulled out the most unexpected card.

"Didn’t he hate her? How did he end up giving everything to her?" Callum wondered with a frown. Everyone had the same questions, including Rivana, but she decided to push those thoughts away to focus on his farewell.

"The funeral will be held in the old Faye mansion. His wish was to be right beside his mom, so let’s arrange everything there," Rivana told Leonora. Ezekiel glanced at Callum, who understood his mission. With a nod, he walked away to prepare things.

"We will take care of everything, Anna," Ezekiel said to Rivana. When she turned around, he patted her head and added, "Don’t stress about it. And if there’s anything, don’t hesitate to tell Callum."

Rivana nodded with a small smile. Having all of them felt like a bigger strength, and she hoped for things to go smoothly. But considering the catastrophic news earlier, she doubted it would be anything but that. And just her expectations, Amerie was already preparing something for her.
