Chapter 22: Nightmare or Reality?

Alexander then called Emmerich, another major shareholder of Shadow. After two rings, he picked up, and Alexander went over the same script, luring him to attend the press conference.

Once Emmerich agreed, Rivana felt her heart racing with excitement. They would be eager to see her downfall, only to dig themselves a grave in front of the whole media.

"Thank you, Alexander. I’ll see you tomorrow," Callum said, ending the call. He then turned to Azrael, who nodded in satisfaction, before shifting his gaze to Rivana.

"You should remove that virus now since they all have agreed to make you the CEO," Callum suggested, recalling how it had caused havoc on the Internet.

"Oh, it will already be down. I had only set it up for a few hours," Rivana replied with a cheeky smile. "I was just trying to warn them about the consequences of removing me."

She had smartly set the prank for merely a few hours, to automatically stop by midnight, saving her company from going bankrupt. It was only to show all the shareholders that if they tried to bring her down, she would take each of them into the grave along with her.

Callum nodded in relief, amused by her intelligence. Sometimes all it took was a betrayal for people to show their real potential, and it seemed the case with this young woman. He was glad Azrael hadn’t chosen someone dumb, understanding why he praised her so much.

Meanwhile, Azrael was all smiles. He was proud and relieved that she wasn’t letting anyone treat her like a pushover. Reaching out, he patted her head, surprising both Rivana and Callum.

"Good job," he said as she turned to him, ruffling her hair just the way she hated.

Rivana fumed in frustration and swatted away his hand, making Azrael laugh in victory. Oh, he was really trying to avenge her!

"I will rest since it’s a big day tomorrow," Rivana said to Callum. "Good night." She wished him with a smile before getting up from the couch.

Glaring at her annoying husband one last time, she made her way upstairs. Azrael’s gaze followed until she disappeared before he got up to have a good night’s sleep too.

Callum sighed in relief as the dragon totally seemed to forget about him, all thanks to Rivana of course. She would be his savior from today! he thought, before hurrying to his room.

Back in Rivana’s room, she closed the door and slumped on the bed. Azrael’s threat echoed in her mind, the entire scene replaying like a broken record as she turned around and buried her face in the pillow.

"Argh! What did I get myself into?" she cried out loud, knowing he was very serious about torturing her.

Her mind replayed his bite, the way his lips had felt on her cheek, burning her skin. The memory made her blush again, and she groaned out loud, burying her face deeper into the pillow. Why did her body react this way? She thought of his mischievous smile, the way his eyes had darkened with unspoken emotions. It was all too much.

As she lay there, her thoughts swirled around everything that had happened. The day had been a whirlwind of emotions, and her mind struggled to process it all. Slowly, exhaustion took over, and she drifted into a restless sleep.

But instead of a peaceful slumber, Rivana was pulled into what seemed like a nightmare. Rivana found herself in a dark room, the eerie silence slowly broken by a distant cry. The baby’s cry grew louder, more painful, aching her heart. She recognized the voice! It was her precious baby. Her son, Alan.

As the cries grew louder, Rivana called out for him, looking around frantically. "Alan..." Tears trickled down her face, her heart clenching at his voice.

A faint light caught her eye in the corner, and she rushed to it, finding a cradle. There he was, her precious six-month-old baby, crying out loudly. Reaching out, she quickly picked him up, hugging him close to her chest.

"Shhh. Mommy’s here. You don’t need to be scared of anything," Rivana tried to calm him down, his cries staining her clothes. But suddenly, Alan’s body started to disappear slowly, causing her to gasp in shock.

Before she could think, his entire body dissipated into golden butterflies as if he was never meant to be here. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"No!" Rivana screamed, reaching out in vain to grasp the fading remnants of her son. Her heart ached with an unbearable pain, each butterfly disappearing felt like a piece of her soul being torn away.

She looked around desperately, trying to find any trace of him. The darkness around her seemed to close in, suffocating her with its cold grip. "Alan! Alan, come back!" she cried, tears streaming down her face. The room remained silent, the echo of her voice the only response.

Suddenly, she heard a faint whisper, almost inaudible. "Mommy..." The voice was filled with sadness and fear, piercing her heart.

"Alan! Where are you?!" Rivana shouted, her voice breaking.

A dim light appeared again, this time from a different corner of the room. She ran towards it, hoping to find her son. As she approached, she saw a small figure huddled on the floor. It was Alan, his tiny body trembling.

Rivana fell to her knees, reaching out to hold him. "Shhh, baby. Mommy’s here. I’m here," she whispered, rocking him gently. But as she held him, his body started to fade again, turning into golden butterflies. "No, no, no!" she cried, trying to hold onto him, but it was like trying to grasp smoke.

Rivana woke up with a gasp, tears brimming her cheeks. She clutched her chest which tightened, only to find it wet with tears and snort. What was happening? Why did it feel so real?

She thought, and suddenly she caught something pressing against her palm. Rivana took out her hand that was clutching the sheet tightly only to find that pocket watch. The same watch that Azrael had broken earlier.
