Chapter 19: Watching A Movie

"Nothing could take you away from me this time, Rain."

Rivana’s mind kept reeling from his words like a broken record. The more time they spent together, the more mysterious he became. What did he mean? And why was her heart yearning to just foolishly trust him despite all logic?

But at the same time, it also filled her with hope of changing her fate. She escaped marrying that shame of a man, so she could avoid her death too, right, even if it was sealed?

"Yes!" Even Callum joined in, thinking Azrael was probably talking about the earlier accident. "No one will ever dare to think of harming you again. We will make sure of it," he added confidently.

Azrael slowly came out of his trance and closed his eyes, cursing himself for the outburst. He needed to control these slip-ups, or she might slip away. Worse, she might hate him for ruining her past life. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Slowly breaking the hug, Azrael held her hands firmly. Rivana looked at the way his thumbs gently caressed the back of her palms, trying to comfort her. It warmed her heart, pulling her into what seemed like a worry-free spell.

Azrael considered how to uplift her without sounding suspicious, but nothing crossed his mind. The silence between them stretched, and everyone looked at the couple, wondering what thoughts were ruining their moods.

Callum decided to break the silence again. Staying here no longer felt necessary. There were still many things they needed to clear out, with her attackers to her company that might go bankrupt. And their family doctor could check on her in their estate, a much safer place.

Turning to the doctor, he asked, "Since there are no major injuries, can she get discharged?"

The doctor nodded in agreement. "Sure. We will proceed with it right away," he said, looking at the nurse, who nodded. She walked out with a huge smile on her lips. Rivana had chosen one of the highest-priced rooms in their hospital, and whoever treated patients here would get a bonus too.

Azrael got up from the bed, eyeing the departing doctor. "Handle it," he said to Callum, who nodded, taking out his phone to call their team.

Another nurse helped Rivana with the glucose strip on her hand. Once it was taken out, Rivana thanked her and turned around to get down from the bed. But before her feet could touch the ground, Azrael suddenly scooped her into his arms.

Rivana’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes widening in surprise. Her skin burned where his hands touched her, a blush creeping onto her cheeks.

"I-I can walk," Rivana murmured, feeling all eyes in the room turn to them.

In response, Azrael adjusted her in his arms better, causing her hands to curl around his neck for balance instinctively. A satisfied smile spread across his charming face seeing her surrender before he walked out of the room.

The nurse placed a hand on her mouth, barely holding back a squeal at the swoon-worthy moment. Meanwhile, Callum just shook his head and followed the couple. He needed to get used to this, he thought, gritting his teeth.

As they reached downstairs to a much more crowded area, Rivana lowered her eyes. She wanted to bury her head in his chest, feeling everyone look at them. It was embarrassing yet exhilarating at the same time.

Callum opened the backseat door as they reached their car. Azrael carefully placed Rivana inside. Having a little chat with the team that was already present, he walked over to the other side and hopped in.

Callum sighed, went to the driver’s seat, and became the couple’s sweet chauffeur. The jobs he was being forced to do made him wish to return to his city soon!

As soon as they reached the estate, even before Azrael could make her gasp again, Rivana got out of the car and ran upstairs to her room.

After finishing her shower, Rivana sat at the dressing table, applying her lotion. Her mind was clouded with thoughts, the memories of both her past and the present. Why did the pocket watch suddenly appear? It felt like she couldn’t change major events that had occurred, especially her death, which seemed to be already set in stone.

But why out of all places was she teleported here? She had no idea, as the last memory she had was falling into Viktor’s arms that night at their anniversary party. Was someone kind enough to take her to the hospital? Her family hated her, and Viktor’s family had secretly hoped she’d die for long. So who could it be?

Her thoughts strangely, then drifted to Azrael. His words were confusing, making her wonder if he was reborn, too. And if he was, what was stopping him from confronting her? A warmth spread across her chest as she recalled the way he had comforted her.

Azrael seemed to provide her with everything she had yearned for from her useless husband in the past: respect, affection, and, more importantly, care in her worst times. The way he had hugged her, held her so close as if afraid of losing her—it all tugged at the chains she had put around her heart. Yes, it was too early to feel this way, but she couldn’t help it. Rivana groaned, cursing herself for such thoughts.

"Madam." A knock on the door broke her fantasies. "Master had asked you to come downstairs," the maid continued, and Rivana nodded, immediately walking out.

She reached the hall only to find Callum on the couch. Feeling her presence, he turned around and grinned, "Come here. I have a surprise for you."

Rivana sat on the couch next to his plush chair. But before Callum could continue, Azrael walked to them. He had changed into lounge clothes, but what shocked Rivana was the two cups of strawberry ice cream in his hand.

Azrael walked over and sat beside her. "Here," he passed one of the cups, making even Callum blink at him in confusion. When Rivana kept staring between him and the cup, he asked with a frown, "You don’t like it anymore?"

A flicker of disappointment crossed over Azrael’s face when she didn’t respond. With a sigh, he murmured, "I will get something else." But Rivana caught his hand, stopping him from getting up.

"I do!" she replied, looking at him. She took the cup, her fingers brushing against his. Azrael smiled, bright enough to make Callum have a heart attack. This was really getting worse!

Scooping a spoonful of ice cream, Rivana tasted it, her mind drifting to her childhood.

"Stop crying! It’s just a scratch." Azrael growled, making little Rivana whimper. She looked at the bruise on her knee, the blood making her cry harder.

Squatting beside her, Azrael continued, "You are looking ugly." When she didn’t stop, Azrael sighed and gave up, "I will get whatever you want. Stop crying now!"

Rivana’s cries immediately stopped, and she looked at him, blinking her tears. "I want ice cream. And minions too!" the little girl demanded.

Azrael nodded and turned around, facing his back. Little Rivana grinned and immediately climbed on him, happily hugging his neck as he carried her back to their house.

Rivana’s heart warmed at the memory, those sweet moments that unfortunately couldn’t last longer. She doubted if he remembered every bit of them like she did, considering how he had totally distanced himself all these years. There were times when they would meet, at Hugon family gatherings mostly, but he wouldn’t speak a word to her. Worse, he even acted like she didn’t exist, and over time she had stopped caring about him too.

Meanwhile, Azrael was lost in his thoughts, wondering if it would be too childish. He scratched his brow, almost too shy to speak. She had been through a lot, and he didn’t know how to distract her. And he had no idea what she liked or anything about her. Clearing his throat, he asked, "Wanna watch Minions?"

Rivana looked at him, her eyes wide in disbelief. He still remembered it! Her heart burst at the thoughts, her face barely hiding her grin. She gingerly nodded, hoping to relive those days. Azrael’s face beamed with a smile, and he looked at Callum, silently ordering him to arrange it.

The poor candy looked at his friend in disbelief. Was he going to watch stupid cartoons? Ugh, he hoped to die rather than live days like these!
