Starting Cultivation in Wasteland-Chapter 553 - 423: Greed Without Limit
Qu Jianlei was reading in the library when, to his surprise, the Vice President came looking for him.
Upon hearing the request repeated by the other party, he fell silent.
The Vice President was in no hurry, sitting across from him, confidently waiting for him to agree.
In his mind, there was no reason for him to refuse.
Firstly, few of the supporting teachers were willing to cause any trouble locally; it was essentially a matter of selling a favor, wasn’t it?
Moreover, most teachers don’t like getting involved in violent affairs—unless you’re talking about Cheng Qingshan.
Secondly, the Engineering College was very supportive of Green Water Academy’s teachers throughout the incident.
Initially, there might have been some neglect, but that was merely due to communication not being smooth enough.
Later, to protect them, Cheng Qingshan personally confronted the third-in-command of the Patrol Guard, Buzibi, and even tossed around the Patrol Guard’s documents.
So everything the Engineering College did was worthy of the camaraderie shared with the brother academy.
The Vice President also knew that he wasn’t actually a teacher, just a handyman—alright, a somewhat technically skilled handyman.
And then there’s... his combat prowess, which is quite formidable, but is that a topic at the academy?
It’s proper etiquette for him, a dignified Vice President, to come to the library to discuss matters with a handyman, I reckon.
However, Qu Jianlei remained silent for a long time and finally shook his head.
"Sorry, if they want to kill me, let them; if they want to brush it off, so be it... I can’t accept these conditions."
"Can’t accept?" The Vice President’s mouth opened wide enough to fit a tennis ball.
He simply could not fathom the other’s mindset, waited a moment, and then asked again, "So what do you mean?"
Me, a Vice President, willing to seek the opinion of a handyman, who else would feel I’ve done anything inadequately?
"My opinion... shouldn’t matter, right?" Qu Jianlei pondered before answering, "I can’t do anything about them anyway."
The Vice President thought about it and felt that made sense, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss.
Eventually, he nodded, "I suggest you avoid going out in the near future; everything you need can be bought at the academy."
And then he turned and left, since as long as the person didn’t leave, there shouldn’t be any issue.
Qu Jianlei stayed there for quite a while, slowly shook his head, and continued to read.
He wasn’t very satisfied with the outcome, nor could he forgive the other party, but if things were to end this way, it would be tolerable.
All he did was spend fifty thousand, fire two shots, and thoroughly stirred things up; many made their moves, and the Starr Family suffered severe losses.
But is this really the final result? Perhaps... not quite?
Sure enough, the next afternoon, Gwendolyn came back to the Engineering College.
This time he was straightforward, didn’t even bother to find Bellini, but went straight to the library.
He sat right in the reading room and spoke directly to Qu Jianlei, "Panda, you’ve heard the news these past days, right?"
Qu Jianlei looked at him expressionlessly and slowly nodded, "I’ve heard some of it."
"The Starr clan has conceded," Gwendolyn said with a serious face, "I’ve come to collect the final payment."
Qu Jianlei helplessly rubbed his forehead, "Final payment... what about the promise of bankruptcy?"
Gwendolyn shook his head, "The fourth-in-command intervened, so it couldn’t be done, but his family received a warning, and they shouldn’t dare act recklessly again."
Qu Jianlei frowned, "Not achieving the promised outcome, what final payment is there?"
Gwendolyn’s face darkened, "Do you see the effect now, you’re safe, and you don’t want to recognize the account?"
Don’t pull that face with me, Qu Jianlei’s face darkened as well.
"Not recognize the account? I find it strange; aside from sending Romel to the Cleanliness Department for a three-day tour, what else did you do?"
Gwendolyn’s face became even darker, "I’ve done plenty; if you’re going to be this unreasonable, let me explain."
"Do you know why those two families besieged the Starr clan? Do you know how Donastar died?"
Qu Jianlei’s expression turned peculiar, "It was all you?"
Gwendolyn took on an air of superiority again, "So you have no idea yet feel obliged to ask what I’ve done?"
Qu Jianlei shook his head, "You can’t just say it’s all your doing either."
"I don’t need to prove anything to you," Gwendolyn scoffed coldly, "You can’t imagine my capabilities!"
Qu Jianlei shook his head and replied coolly, "Without proof, I definitely won’t believe you."
Gwendolyn’s chin raised with arrogance, "My words are the proof!"
"Sorry," Qu Jianlei shook his head again, firmly expressing, "I don’t believe it!"
Gwendolyn paused, then spoke sinisterly, "Are you really planning to deny the account?"
Qu Jianlei waved his hand in a gesture to dismiss him, "Goodbye, no need to see you off!"
Gwendolyn did not rush to leave but sat in the chair, leisurely gazing at him, "You’ll regret this!"
Qu Jianlei lowered his head to continue reading, but upon hearing this, he looked up with a face full of helplessness.
"I really hadn’t intended to mind you," he took out a small object, tossing it a couple of times, "Do you know what this is?"
Gwendolyn’s expression changed slightly, "You actually recorded it?"
"And the video too," Qu Jianlei raised his hand, leisurely pressing a few buttons on his wristwatch.
Then he looked at the other person calmly, "I have some library access, copying videos isn’t a problem."
Gwendolyn’s face instantly flushed with anger, "You dare to set me up?"
"It’s you who isn’t satisfied," Qu Jianlei replied coolly, "Getting fifty thousand for free, isn’t it enough?"
"Who said it was free?" Gwendolyn was truly furious, "Getting someone into the Cleanliness Department doesn’t come without cost!"
"I’m not interested in that," Qu Jianlei waved his hand, watching him with interest as he spoke unhurriedly.
"I just wonder, if I send these things to the Starr Family, what will they think of you?"
Gwendolyn pondered for a moment before laughing, "You wouldn’t do that. They’re your enemies."
"That’s hard to say," Qu Jianlei shook his head, "Is my feud with the Starr Family that deep? Not really!"
Gwendolyn’s fingers twitched slightly, evidently having the impulse to snatch the evidence.
However, this was the library, a place where physical altercations were strictly prohibited—most crucially, he knew he couldn’t beat the opponent.
After contemplating for a while, he eventually stated, "If I were you, I wouldn’t give these things to the Starr Clan."
Qu Jianlei shook his head but didn’t respond directly, only expressing, "You’re not me."
Gwendolyn’s face turned ugly again, "What will it take for you to destroy the recording?"
He had strong backing; the Starr Family’s own power wasn’t exceptional, and they were currently dealing with internal and external troubles, so they couldn’t touch him.
But he’s still young, with a long life ahead, being targeted by such a family isn’t a good thing.
"You just need to deal with the Starr Clan," Qu Jianlei replied indifferently.
"Before you bring them to ruin, I won’t leak any information... good luck."
"That’s impossible!" Gwendolyn said darkly, "The key people are focused on mediation, there’s no more room for action!"
"Then I can’t help you," Qu Jianlei spread his hands out, answering frankly, "I’ll make sure to copy a few more versions."
He didn’t plan to leak the information immediately; after all, the Starr Family was even more unfriendly to him.
Gwendolyn understood but continued to glare at him ominously, "You’d better think carefully about the consequences of offending me!"
Qu Jianlei leaned back in his chair, lounging and looking at the other person with a nonchalant attitude.
"Just a reminder for you, the Empire is vast, you’re not the only one that’s difficult to deal with."
"Alright, alright," Gwendolyn retorted angrily, standing up to leave.
Qu Jianlei watched his back and shook his head helplessly: although the guy is quite annoying, he doesn’t deserve to die.
Fifty thousand silver coins isn’t little, but getting someone into the Cleanliness Department isn’t much either.
The key was the series of events that unfolded afterward, sparked by Romel’s entry into the Cleanliness Department, which was the fuse for this incident.
Without the fuse, it wouldn’t have erupted, right?
That’s how he saw it, but Gwendolyn didn’t appreciate it, and as the car drove out of the academy, he snorted coldly.
"That Panda, we’ll have to teach him a lesson later!"
The driving C-level Warrior glanced at him and spoke in a deep voice, "Do you want someone to take him out?"
Gwendolyn shook his head, "There’s no need to take him out, I’m after money... but we need to make him pay severely."
"That’s good," the C-level Warrior responded in a deep voice, "I have friends in the patrol saying this guy’s combat talent is strong."
Gwendolyn sneered dismissively, "In this day and age, you’re still talking about fighting?"
"The Supreme may be formidable, but can it withstand a shot from a Star Destroyer? In the face of money and power, individual strength is insignificant."
The C-level Warrior actually had a different opinion about that statement, but the boss liked bragging, so he let him brag.
As long as they didn’t find someone to confront the opponent, he truly didn’t care—the patrol friends had said, don’t underestimate Panda.
At almost the same moment, a starship landed on Star No. 4, with passengers entering the airspace.
In the crowd was a middle-aged couple, dressed appropriately with an aura of gracious elegance, smiles decorating their faces.
When they reached the exit, the couple showed their identity tokens, it turned out they were two psychological counselors.
Most Imperial people don’t seek psychological counseling; their attitude towards life is: what’s meant to be will be.
Those who do seek psychological counseling are mostly powerful, feeling the need to adjust their mindset or state.
Especially Superpower Warriors, who need to adjust their mentality promptly during cultivation level increases.
Moreover, Modified Warriors or those who have failed twice with Genetic Potions usually require considerable time for psychological adjustments.
Thus, this is a niche profession catering to high-end clients.
The profits are high but the most important aspect is the influence of the target clients, making it highly respected.
Exiting the Star Port, the man took a deep breath, raised his brows, and muttered under his breath.
"Primitive and backward, quite a bit of toxic components in the air, just what you’d expect from the Edge Star Realm, let’s finish the job quickly and leave."
