Chapter 913: Leaving (1)

This Myriad Immortals Conference had truly become a twisting path full of rising peaks and unforeseen turns. The purple-bearded Envoy Zou wore a twisted expression on his face. He had to use that final move. But... if he did, countless years of preparation on this continent would be completely wasted.

What should I do?

He hesitated. But when he saw Li Xiaofei’s divine and invincible figure, as if a god had descended from the heavens, Envoy Zou suddenly came to his senses. If he didn’t use that last resort now, he might not even survive, let alone speak of the future.

He made his decision and began to chant. An ancient and obscure incantation burst forth from his throat. It was not a language any human could speak. None of the immortal sect cultivators present could understand a word.

Even Li Xiaofei could not comprehend the meaning. But he could recognize it as the language of the Reapers. The tonal system of humanity’s greatest enemy. Li Xiaofei did not intervene. Instead, he waited patiently.

Moments later, the black Demonic Qi surrounding Envoy Zou turned blood-red, thick and viscous like fresh blood. In an instant, it split into sixteen beams of light that shot skyward, piercing through the clouds.

For a brief moment, all of heaven and earth fell silent. Everyone’s hearts skipped a beat, a wave of confusion rising in their minds.

What is going on?

It seemed that Envoy Zou had been casting some kind of secret technique. The buildup had been long, but... was that it? Did the spell fail?

In the very next instant, Mount Heavenly Drum began to tremble violently. No, it wasn’t just Mount Heavenly Drum. The entire Myriad Saints Mountain, no, the entire land itself, began to quake.

It felt as if some terrible creature was slowly waking from its ancient slumber, and the whole world began to shudder and wail in dread. Then—

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

Beams of crimson light shot from all directions across the continent, streaking through the skies and gathering above Myriad Saints Mountain. After pausing momentarily in the air, they dove swiftly downward.

Everyone was alarmed. They began to circulate their spiritual energy in defense, but the crimson beams did not target the crowd. Instead, they descended rapidly onto the corpses of the immortal sect masters in the dueling arena!

Even the shattered remains of Xue Bulong, which had been reduced to little more than blood-soaked pulp, had a strand of crimson demonic light burrow into them. Then, those piles of blood and those twisted corpses began to stir.

As if wound up like grotesque puppets, they began to move, their limbs contorting unnaturally as they rose to their feet. Their features had become indistinct. Yet they still retained a humanoid shape.

The crimson demonic glow continued to seep outward from their flesh, bones, and corpses. It was as though something was being reconstructed.

Bang, bang, bang.

Seven more streaks of crimson light swirled through the air and finally descended before the blade-and-sword cages, crashing into them wildly in an attempt to shatter the barrier and rush inside.

Inside the cages, the aberrated sect masters like Granny Bai let out frenzied, fearful howls. It was clear they were deeply afraid of the crimson light. However, since they were under the protection of the dual-colored gold and silver blade prisons, those crimson streams were unable to penetrate their bodies.

“Sect Master?”

“Founder?”

“It’s the Ancestor!”

Shocked cries suddenly rang out from within the crowd.

The reformed corpses and reconstructed masses of flesh that they saw had each taken on a brand-new form. They had transformed into perfect replicas of the founding ancestors that every immortal sect worshipped and revered.

Every sect had portraits of their founders. Now, the ‘people’ standing before them were identical to those images. The only difference was their expression, as each face was vacant and dull. They looked like machines that had yet to be activated. Their eyes remained tightly shut.

At this moment, Envoy Zou seemed utterly drained of all of his life force and was on the verge of collapsing to the ground. With the last of his strength, he formed a hand seal. He chanted a few more obscure incantations.

Then, the floating sect master tokens above suddenly turned into streaks of light and shot into the bodies of their corresponding ancestral founders. The remaining seven tokens, which had no rightful master, darted around in the air chaotically before merging with the seven crimson beams. Together, they twisted in midair, letting out eerie, dissatisfied wailing sounds. Then, once again, they hurled themselves against the sword prisons with renewed fury.

At that very moment, the sect ancestors who had received their respective tokens abruptly opened their eyes in unison.

“Useless.”

“They actually woke us early.”

“You’ve disrupted the lord’s plan.”

“This sensation of awakening... I smell the scent of blood.”

“What era is this now?”

“Hm? I sense danger.”

At first, the voices of these sect founders sounded strange and distorted, but gradually they grew clearer, carrying the solemn authority of immortal cultivators.

Envoy Zou knelt on the ground, trembling as he spoke fearfully, “Reporting to the honored ones... I had no choice. A man-demon from beyond the heavens has broken into this land and turned the order upside down. I have already followed all your instructions and exhausted every method...”

He was utterly terrified. Kneeling on the ground, his body trembled like a leaf in the wind. The founder of the Blood Mist Sect reached out and grabbed him.

Envoy Zou was pulled into the air by an invisible force. The Blood Mist Ancestor’s fingers gently closed around his head, and with a sickening crack, crushed it like a ripe melon. Red blood and white brain matter burst out together...

He opened his mouth and inhaled. As naturally as drinking water, he drained Envoy Zou into a withered husk, leaving behind nothing but an empty human skin.

“Waste not.” He spoke with satisfaction.

Countless sharp, white teeth lined every surface in his open mouth. It was more like the maw of a beast than any human throat.

The founder of the Myriad Saints Sect swept his eyes over the crowd, cursing aloud, “Useless... nothing but trash... just food... you should’ve been devoured long ago...”

“This boring experiment. End it, end it, end it.” The mouth of the Blood Qiao Sect’s founder dripped with thick, brown drool.

The expressions of the other founders were also bizarre, their eyes cold and utterly inhuman. At this point, even the most zealous disciples of the immortal sects began to realize that something was deeply wrong with these ancestors who had returned in such grotesque and unnatural ways.

These were not the true ancestral founders. The aura radiating from their bodies was wicked and savage, filled with an overwhelming stench of death. This was not the kind of power a genuine immortal should possess.

In contrast, Li Xiaofei, who was standing tall with his golden and silver wings, exuding divine might and a vast, radiant immortal aura, appeared more like the true supreme immortal of the human race.

At that moment, the founders turned their gazes toward Li Xiaofei.

“Oh, a destroyer.”

“A man-demon... how did he make it here?”

“Has the outer defense system failed?”

“It must be repaired.”

“We must begin again.”

The founders muttered among themselves, exchanging fragmented thoughts.

The Blood Mist Sect’s founder burst out laughing, licking his lips as he said, “Then let’s fix it. What are we waiting for... hahahaha, let me handle it.”

He flashed through the air as he lunged straight toward Li Xiaofei. But Li Xiaofei raised a hand, and caught him by the throat. It looked as though the Blood Mist founder had willingly thrown himself into his hands.

His form trembled, rapidly shifting between corporeal and illusory, trying to escape Li Xiaofei’s grip. Yet to his shock, the Blood Mist Sect’s founder found it utterly impossible. A sword qi filled with strange Dao principles surged through his body, locking onto him completely. Even though his form blurred and dissolved like mist, he could not break free.

"Interesting. A species caught between human and Reaper. Is this the purpose of the testing ground? To cultivate spies? Or to uncover the secrets of human evolution?"

Li Xiaofei carefully examined the Blood Mist Sect founder's body, absorbing every detail into his mind. Gradually, he began to grasp the deeper patterns at play. Then, with a single thought—

Pfft.

It sounded almost like a quiet fart. A puff of blood-red mist was expelled from the founder’s body, and his form began to contort and shift. Eventually, the human shape collapsed and transformed into a bizarre, crimson maggot about the size of a forearm.

This was its true form as a Reaper. Li Xiaofei had struck it so thoroughly that its original appearance was forced out.

"Truly a filthy, hideous thing." As he spoke, Li Xiaofei exerted a bit more force and obliterated the maggot-like creature. The sight of this stunned the other founders.

Their revival was supposed to place them in a realm of absolute dominance over this world. How could a human arrive in a quarantined zone and still act with such overwhelming strength, killing them as easily as swatting flies?

"Too strong."

"No match."

"Request backup."

"Retreat."

In an instant, the remaining founders lost all will to fight.
