Standing Next To You-Chapter 186: Smell Good
Chapter 186: Smell Good
At dinner, Bei Sangyun rang Fei Chuan’s doorbell again. This time, the man let her in without making her wait too long.
Fei Chuan gazed at the two plastic bags of groceries that Bei Sangyun was holding. He seemed speechless.
Bei Sangyun noticed his gaze and explained, "Since I am eating your food, I decided to fill up your fridge."
She then took off her shoes and was about to enter when Fei Chuan suddenly pointed to the floor. "Wear these." He then took the two plastic bags using one hand.
Bei Sangyun looked at the thing he pointed at and saw the new pair of indoor slippers. She paused for a moment before a smile broke out on her face.
It was just a pair of slippers, but it somehow made her happy. Does this mean he was subtly agreeing and letting her take care of him? It seemed that he was no longer angry at her.
Bei Sangyun followed after him into the kitchen and took the job of sorting the things she bought into the fridge. Fei Chuan also helped on the sidelines.
The two worked together in rare harmony.
Bei Sangyun could not help but comment, "This feels like we are a newly married couple doing chores together."
Her comment made Fei Chuan freeze. Bei Sangyun continued to tease, "Or do you prefer a mother who came to visit her son alone and helped him with the chores?"
Fei Chuan took the ham spread from her hand and put it into the refrigerator. "I say it’s a classmate who is bored with everything and came to bother another classmate who is living peacefully."
Bei Sangyun chuckled. Fei Chuan spoke again, "You walked around a lot for someone who has injured her ankle."
"My ankle is perfectly fine. See, I am no longer limping anymore." Bei Sangyun raised her pants and showed her white, smooth calf to him.
Fei Chuan glanced at her slender calf and hurriedly looked away. He closed the fridge. "Then cook as much as you want and leave early."
Since he couldn’t stop her, then he wouldn’t bother about it anymore. Let her do whatever she wants. He only needs to endure for two days anyway.
Bei Sangyun heated up the food that Grandma Pei sent today and made some simple side dishes. Beside her, Fei Chuan assisted her.
They were standing too close, and Bei Sangyun couldn’t help but notice the scent of soap lingering around him. Fei Chuan had changed into new clothes, and he seemed to have just taken a bath.
But didn’t he take a bath while she prepared their breakfast earlier? Did he bathe twice in a day in this cold weather?
Bei Sangyun glanced at him multiple times, which the latter noticed. Fei Chuan frowned at her, "What?"
Bei Sangyun stepped closer to him and took a huge sniff. Aside from the fragrance of soap and the fabric on his clothes, there was the mild smell of fresh bamboo grass with a subtle sweetness that was unique to Fei Chuan.
Fei Chuan stiffened and immediately backed away. "What are you doing?"
"I am taking a sniff. Why do you smell so good? Are you using perfume?"
Fei Chuan paused. His ears burned red. He tossed the kitchen towel at her, "Aren’t you too shameless?"
Bei Sangyun: "...Huh?" Why did he call her shameless again?
"I think you don’t need an assistant. Just put the food on the table when you are done and leave." Fei Chuan then hurriedly escaped from the kitchen.
"Hey, I am going to eat dinner here!" Bei Sangyun shouted, but the man had already escaped to his room.
...
For the whole weekend, Bei Sangyun kept coming to Fei Chuan’s condo and spent time eating meals with him. Since they were just neighbors, Bei Sangyun invited Fei Chuan for another practice for their homecoming dance.
So the two spent the whole Sunday together in Fei Chuan’s condo, bickering with each other.
Fei Chuan glanced at the window and was surprised to see that the sun had already settled. Time flies too fast. Had he already spent two days here?
He looked at his bandaged hand. Actually, his wound had scabbed yesterday, and the bandage could be taken off now. The bruise on his face visibly lessened a lot too. People would only notice the light bruise if they looked closely at his face.
But since he had his long bangs covering most of his face, the bruise on his face was not noticeable.
He could now return to the Fei mansion without worry that Grandma Pei would notice it.
....
At dinner, Bei Sangyun noticed that the man had already taken off the bandages over his hand. It wasn’t red anymore and looked perfectly fine.
Bei Sangyun ate the rice with a sad expression. It looked like their little role play of the newlywed couple would end now. Sigh. She was still having fun.
"Right, the Simon family has already left the country yesterday. I thought you should know," Bei Sangyun informed.
Fei Chuan had not much reaction. "I see."
Bei Sangyun tapped the plate with her chopsticks a few times before she asked, "When are you going to return to the Fei mansion?"
"...Tomorrow." Fei Chuan paused and looked back at her. "....You?"
"Hmm. I’ll leave tomorrow as well," Bei Sangyun replied.
Actually, she had to return to the Lin mansion once the Simon family left. However, she still wanted to stay here.
"...I see," Fei Chuan answered.
The two went quiet. Bei Sangyun tapped the table a few times, seeming to be hesitating to say something, while Fei Chuan appeared to be in deep thought.
Finally, dinner ended, and the two shared the chores.
Bei Sangyun looked at the door in front of her. Once this day ends, she had to go back to the Lin mansion and endure sleepless nights and flavorless meals with no appetite. These two days, Bei Sangyun spent most of her time with Fei Chuan. While with him, she was able to have a full stomach, good sleep, and fun days.
Bei Sangyun did not expect she would enjoy his company this much.
Ah. It was really a pity to end this. How she wished his wounds were a bit deeper and needed a longer time to heal.
Bei Sangyun turned around and found Fei Chuan looking at her. "Don’t you have something to say to me?"
Fei Chuan: "...?"
He thought about it and nodded. "Thank you...for your help these past two days."
"That’s all?" Bei Sangyun asked with her eyebrow raised.
Fei Chuan nodded. He doesn’t have much to say to her. He had a lot to think about. Whenever Bei Sangyun was around, he couldn’t think well. Now that she was finally leaving, his thought process would return to normal.
Bei Sangyun rolled her eyes at him. She took off the slippers and carried them with her. "This is mine, right? You don’t have any problem with me taking this."
Fei Chuan nodded.
Bei Sangyun stared at him for a long time before sighing. "I’ll see you at school then. Bye."
The door closed behind her.
Bei Sangyun stood in front of Fei Chuan’s door for a long while. Now that she was out, the lively atmosphere she had these past two days seemed to have dispersed and become depressing.
She hugged the slippers in a daze. To be honest, she also did not know what she wanted to hear from him and why she dawdled.
Perhaps it was because she had too much fun that she felt disappointed and empty for leaving.
Bei Sangyun sighed. Well, there was still tomorrow. She can look for him anytime. For now, she had to return to her reality.
****
Monday morning had arrived. The weather was cold, and many passersby hugged themselves as they walked along the road.
A car passed by. Bei Sangyun leaned on the car;s window as she read the ’apology letter’ that the Simon family had sent to her.
She couldn’t help but chuckle at their audacity. She threw the tablet at the backseat. "They did not even bother to print it and just emailed it to me. How professional," Bei Sangyun commented ironically.
Butler Xin, who was in the driver’s seat, commented as well, "Those bastards are confident to send you the half-assed written apology because they are no longer worried that Head Master Lin would pursue this matter with them.
"They have become in-laws thanks to the engagement with Lin Xiaoni and must have thought there is no need to pretend that things are okay with you."
Butler Xin was really invested in this incident, which amused Bei Sangyun. She smiled, but her words were cruel, "Don’t fret about it. They will get what they deserve. They sowed a lot of bad seeds, and time will take care of it. The time will come when they have to harvest it."
Butler Xin agreed. He then glanced at the rearview mirror and noticed that Bei Sangyun’s complexion was better compared to before.
"What have you been doing in the past days?" He couldn’t help but ask.
Bei Sangyun smiled. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, you look healthier and more lively."
In fact, he wanted to say that the depressing aura around Bei Sangyun had disappeared a lot. She was no longer looking like a time bomb that was ready to explode at any moment. The darkness in her brows lessened and she was smiling a lot this day.
"Really? I just got a good sleep and hearty meals."
Butler Xin glanced at her once more and kept the words he wanted to say.
’Was it because of that boy?’
Butler Xin had been surprised to see the boy that came out of the opposite of his master’s room when he fetched Bei Sangyun earlier.
He recognized him. It was the boy that his master had been interested in for quite some time now.
He immediately got the pieces connected altogether and made an assumption.
Was it really puppy love?
Butler Xin sighed. To think his eccentric boss had been captivated by someone unexpected.
