Chapter 19 - SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card

Out of habit, after they ate lunch in the school cafeteria, Ainsworth headed to his locker while Rian and Dante returned to their classroom.
While he was in front of his locker, he opened it and saw only one love letter.
"Well, that's weird. Usually, my locker would be overflowing with love letters."
Ainsworth's comment wasn't out of narcissism but it really happened before and he even expected it to be cramped with love letters especially after he awakened his SSS-rank class.
Even when it was an open secret that Ainsworth had a crush on Elyndra Celeste Valtoria, many girls still sent him love letters.
"Since there's only one love letter, then the one who placed this love letter must have disposed of other love letters. What a savage!"
Holding the only love letter in his locker, Ainsworth inspected it and discovered that it was different from the love letters he usually received.
For example, it didn't seem to contain only a letter inside. As if that wasn't enough, it was sealed by a wax seal, stamped by the Valtoria Empire's royal crest.
"Is the love letter from Elyndra?"
"No, that's wishful thinking. She never gave me a love letter and I dared not give her one as I was still a nobody who wasn't worthy of her. Even if in the slightest chance that she allows me to date her, her family wouldn't allow a nobody like me to date the crown princess."
"But... the wax seal is related to the Valtoria Empire, and only Elyndra dared to use the royal crest of the Valtoria Empire in Edenbridge High."
Breathing in and out, Ainsworth soon regained his composure and created a kitchen knife.
Using the sharp kitchen knife, he cut the wax seal and opened the love letter.
Whether it was from Elyndra or not, and whether it was a love letter or not, would depend on the contents of the envelope. Rather than continuously guessing what it was, Ainsworth decisively checked the contents of it, or else his imagination would go out of hand.
Inside the envelope, there were two contents. It was a white paper note and a golden card.
Looking at the golden card, Ainsworth held it in his hand and the Voice of The World sounded in his mind.
-Ding!
[Elyndra Celeste Valtoria gifted you an SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card. Do you want to accept it?]
[Yes] | [No]
"Fuck! An SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card?"
"Even if the principal sells his ass and lets someone clap his butt cheeks, even he wouldn't be able to have enough money to buy an SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card."
Or more like, it wasn't sold publicly.
Even if that braindead young master's father sold his company, he wouldn't be able to buy one for his son.
As for why it was so valuable? It was a special prop that could allow an Awakener to abandon the Otherworld Mission and return to Earth.
Normally, after an awakener took on an Otherworld Mission, they could only die or live to complete it.
Even the lowest difficulty Otherworld Mission, at most, the missions given weren't that difficult. But it was impossible for an awakener to return to Earth until they completed their mission.
Awakeners weren't forced by the World Will to partake in Otherworld Missions. So those who awakened F-rank classes and felt that they couldn't turn the tide would prefer to just become a normal person rather than risk their lives in the Otherworld.
As for those who did partake in Otherworld Missions, they wouldn't be allowed to return to Earth unless they completed all their missions. The only exception would be if there was a force majeure and it was the World Will itself who took the initiative to let the awakener return to Earth but such cases were extremely rare.
The only documented cases of that were when the awakeners first encountered similar existences to themselves such as the otherworlders from the Main God Space, Reincarnation Paradise, Abyss Paradise, and other similar forces.
In cases like that, the World Will wasn't that cruel and would allow the awakener to return to Earth if they wanted to. If not, they would receive another mission to deal with those otherworlders.
It was mostly the SSS-rank Awakeners who often encountered those foreign otherworlders so under normal circumstances, it was unlikely for someone to return to Earth without completing their Otherworld Mission.
Looking at the golden card in his hand, Ainsworth pondered, 'If I'm not mistaken, this was the special prop that my sister Kyla used to escape from the Eye Organization. It was given to her by Edenbridge High's former principal.'
'I would have a chance to receive it in the future, but not at this time as only when Kyla became an S-rank Awakener and showcased her worth that the school was willing to invest in her.'
'The only way to obtain an SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card is for those SSS-rank Awakeners to partake in high-difficulty Otherworld Missions. There are only thirteen known SSS-rank Awakeners in the world so only those forces with an SSS-rank Awakener could obtain them.'
'With how valued Elyndra is by the royal family, she would have been given priority in obtaining an SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card. However, even she wouldn't give an SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card just to anyone.'
'Does she like me or not?'
With doubt in his mind, Ainsworth checked the white paper note in the envelope and read it:
/Don't tell anyone about this, even to your friends and family. I know you will take on Hell Difficulty Otherworld Missions so don't hesitate to use this if it's beyond what you can deal with./
The note written on the white paper wasn't that long, but Ainsworth no longer hesitated to press the [Yes] button.
-Ding!
[You have received the Special Prop: SSS-rank Abandon Mission Card.]
Hearing the Voice of The World, Ainsworth sighed, 'I owe her one.'
