Spoiled by the CEO after amnesia!-Chapter 528 - 526: Shocking Scars
Although Su Yan hadn’t harmed her and her son with her own hands, every single thing she did pushed Jiayi and Zaizai into danger.
"Committing murder with a borrowed knife"?
This bone-chilling term was something Jiayi really didn’t want to utter, because she felt it didn’t fit with the elegant and refined white-collar beauty before her, who was civilized and polite.
Su Yan’s face stiffened, her fists clenched tightly, and then slowly relaxed: "Xiaoyi—"
"Enough, I don’t want to listen." Jiayi turned her face away in disgust, "Whatever our relationship was before, I don’t care, from now on, I don’t want to see you again."
From now on, I don’t want to see you again... These words made Su Yan suddenly look up, if these words were spoken, how could Huo Zhenyang possibly keep her around?
She took a deep breath as the tears she had held back finally burst forth from their confines: "Xiaoyi, I’ve already apologized, won’t you forgive me? I was truly confused at the time."
"Sorry, I am not a saint. How can I forgive someone who stabbed me? It doesn’t matter if you hurt me, but you almost harmed Zaizai. How can I tolerate that?" Jiayi said, sounding somewhat weary, not wanting to continue the conversation, already slightly turning her body away.
Seeing Jiayi’s face signaling that the conversation was over, completely unwilling to deal with her, Su Yan’s fingers curled slightly, but she still stood in place without moving.
Out of the corner of her eye, Jiayi glanced to the side, noting Su Yan showed no signs of leaving; her breath turned chilly, and finally she sat up, unable to resist a taunt: "Miss Su, do you intend to stay the night here? Or shall I call the bodyguards to escort Miss Su out—"
Before she finished speaking, she saw Su Yan raise her hands and take off her sharp, tailored blazer.
Jiayi paused, not understanding what she wanted to do, and involuntarily straightened up.
Su Yan took off her blazer, revealing a light undershirt beneath. She slowly turned around, her back to Jiayi, and lifted the intimate base layer she was wearing.
On the back of a young woman in her twenties, which should be smooth and pristine, the skin instead varied in color and was marred by uneven scars that extended to her neck, armpit, and the underside of her upper arms.
From a distance, it didn’t look too bad, but upon closer inspection, it resembled rough toad skin, and given that it was on the back, the scars were extensive and widespread, horrifying to behold—especially for a young woman.
They were clearly scars from a severe burn.
Jiayi’s breath caught, her pupils contracted.
During these past months, each time she met Su Yan—whether it was during private time in the villa or while accompanying Huo Zhenyang at campaign speeches for public events at the hotel—she would always dress very appropriately, tightly wrapped up. Even during the hot season a few months ago in Yunling, she never wore short sleeves or tank tops.
Jiayi thought she just preferred to dress professionally; she hadn’t realized it was because of the scars on her back.
"Currently, the most advanced skin graft surgery in the world can only restore it to this extent."
Su Yan suddenly spoke up, her voice carrying an indescribable emptiness. She slowly turned her head halfway, her peripheral vision on Jiayi, "Before the surgery, changing the dressing on the wound every day involved tearing off the old skin, flesh peeling away, then applying the medicine. Every time this happened, I was in so much pain that I wished I could just die. After the surgery, because of the need to prevent the wound from breaking down and to stop the new skin from dying, I spent two full years, 24 hours a day, wearing post-surgery compression garments... Do you know what it feels like, Xiaoyi, to try carrying ten pounds of rocks on your body every day, not being able to take it off even to sleep? So compressed you can’t breathe, yes, that’s the feeling... Now, the most painful days are behind me, but as you can see, my body can never return to its original state. Even in the hottest seasons, I can never wear dresses or tank tops, nor can I ever go to the beach or a swimming pool. Over the years, I’ve been afraid to date; even when I see someone I like, I dare not confess my feelings, only immersing myself in work... People say I’m aloof and proud, that I look down on ordinary men, but tell me, Xiaoyi, with a body like this, do you think I can dare to be in love? Men seeing me like this would surely be scared as if they’ve seen a ghost..."
Jiayi’s eyelashes fluttered.
Su Yan slowly let her undershirt fall back down, covering her scar-laden back, and turned around:
"Xiaoyi, I know, telling you this now seems like I’m seeking your sympathy, but I still can’t help wanting to tell you... I want you to know the suffering I’ve endured because of this injury over the years, and how I’ve been deprived of the happiness that a normal woman should have."
Jiayi couldn’t quite describe her feelings.
From Anya, she knew very clearly that Ye Shiman had wanted to take revenge on her, and that Su Yan had gone up to the rooftop with her to meet Ye Shiman. It was an accident that brought upon her the calamity caused by Ye Shiman’s acid, due to being implicated by Jiayi.
But she had never imagined that Su Yan’s injuries were so severe.
Disfigurement, for a young girl, was an absolute catastrophe.
Four years after the skin graft, a close look at Su Yan’s scars was still shocking; they must have been even worse years ago.
After a few seconds of silence, Jiayi calmed herself and spoke up, "So are you now using your injury to gain my sympathy, to make me feel guilty and forgive you? Let’s keep the matters separate. It’s true you were hurt because of me, but I also did everything possible to send you to America for the best treatment. The scars on your body can’t be the excuse for nearly killing me and Zaizai!"
Su Yan looked up, her eyes already filled with glistening tears, "No, I’m not seeking sympathy, nor am I blaming you for my injury. It was my own choice at that time; I truly considered you the best sister I’d ever have in this lifetime, that’s why I was willing to go with you to Ye Shiman, willingly facing the danger together!... I just deeply regret how close we once were and question how we could end up in this situation today!"
Jiayi didn’t speak, but her gaze noticeably softened a bit.
Su Yan’s face saddened as she put on her blazer and continued, "...These years in America, many female subordinates in the company envied me, saying I became the chief secretary at such a young age, yet they didn’t know I envied them too, for being able to date openly, be pursued by others, and bravely chase after the people they liked. As for me, heh, in this lifetime, the only thing probably worth envying is just this job."
The last sentence struck Jiayi’s heart, yet she saw that Su Yan had already dressed and was tidying up, brushing the hair from her forehead and heading towards the door.
Flashes of memories seemed to cross her mind, blurred yet so real.
She and Su Yan walking hand in hand to the cafeteria, the lively banter during meals and in the dorm room, studying together late into the night at the library for exams...
