Spoiled By My Brothers: Return of The Lost Heiress-Chapter 163: What Happened to Your Legs?
Asher’s POV
There were a lot of things that happened at the party that had my head still spinning. I didn’t even know how I was supposed to take all of this in.
As far as I knew, my little sister, who had been blindly and crazily in love with that bastard Sean, had not only rejected him cruelly right there in front of everyone, but she even stood her ground against our parents.
I was shocked to see that transformation in her. Seraphina looked in the eyes directly and gave them a reality check.
I mean, even I wouldn’t dare talk back to them the way she did. I’ve always done what they told me, and I was really furious when Alistair did something like that a few years ago. But for my little sister, I felt immensely proud that she was able to take a stand for herself now.
Just how much did I change in the past few months? I was oozing with love for Melissa just yesterday, and now... I didn’t even wish to spare a second glance. I supported Seraphina with whatever she was doing.
She had the right to act this way. She had every damn right not to respect them. They never treated her like their daughter. They were the ones who made her like that, and sadly... I... was also one of those people.
But still, I felt it was strange. Seraphina had always been the one who tried... who respected them, no matter how cold they were. She had always kept her head low and had always ignored their words. It wasn’t like her to lose control this way. So what the hell changed? What really happened to her that she acted like this?
That question kept coming into my mind since the moment she opened her mouth at the party.
But the thing was... After exploding like this in front of everyone...she was just gone.
She wasn’t anywhere in the mansion. Alistair and I had been looking for her in the entire mansion, but she was nowhere to be found.
We looked in every corner of the house, but it only made the panic crawl deeper into my chest as she was nowhere to be found. She couldn’t have just vanished. Did she?
"Damn it, Sera..." I muttered under my breath, shoving another door open. My hands wouldn’t stop clenching. I couldn’t stop thinking—what if something happened to her? What if someone took advantage while she was this vulnerable?
Even Lucien... That damn guy was looking for her. It might sound strange to hear this from me, but I would have felt relieved if he had been with her!
And on top of that... I hated how my mind kept circling back to Sean. That bastard. If he laid even a finger on her after she rejected him... if he tried anything dirty against her... I’d end him.
"Did you find her?"
Alistair and Emma came running up to me, both of them blurting it out in unison. Their faces were pale as worry was written all over their faces.
All I could do was shake my head in answer.
"No! I didn’t!" I responded in a low and worried tone. "I swear... if someone has done anything to her... I’d—" My voice cracked as my anger was spilling out of me when suddenly...
A calm and familiar sound cut me off, which made my heart skip a bit.
"There is no need to be worried about her."
The three of us turned at once.
It felt like the ground shook under my feet. Alistair froze beside me, his jaw tightened, and Emma just stood there blinking like as if she was asking the person who was he to speak like that?
The man in front of us... made my stomach churn.
"What are you doing here?" Alistair’s voice was colder than I’d ever heard. His eyes were sharp, filled with anger and somewhat hatred. "I guess... There is no need for you to be here... my dear elder brother!"
Elder brother.
The word brother itself felt strange on our tongues. For us... It was just blood, nothing more. We might’ve shared the same last names, but threw was no unity amongst us.
We grew up like strangers under the same roof, each of us too caught up in our own lives, were stubborn and too broken in our own ways that none of us ever stopped long enough to look at the other for years.
So when Alistair said brother, it didn’t sound like respect or filled with warmth. It sounded like he was dripping with sarcasm.
"And how can you say there’s no need for us to be worried about her?" I demanded before Alistair could even finish what he had to say as my blood was boiling with anger.
Emma’s eyes darted between us. "Elder brother?" she muttered to herself, but was loud enough for us all to hear. Then her eyes widened. "Don’t tell me you’re brother Adrian!?"
She looked him over from head to toe, disbelief dripping from her tone.
I followed her gaze. That’s when it hit me.
How the hell did we not notice before?
He wasn’t standing. He wasn’t even leaning on anything.
He was sitting in a damn wheelchair.
For a second, my brain stopped working. The last time I saw him... he wasn’t like this. He was fine, standing on his legs, he wasn’t... this.
What the fuck happened to him? Why was he suddenly in a wheelchair?
What happened to his legs?
And more importantly, why the hell did he show up now, of all times, speaking like he already knew everything?
"I’m saying this because I just met her and... She was so shocked to see me in this state that she ran away." Adrian ignored our questioning gazes and responded as calmly as ever.
"What happened to your legs?" But it seemed Alistair didn’t seem to notice that Adrian was not in the mood to address the issue of his legs.
