Chapter 147: The Softness In Asher’s Eyes!

Seraphina’s POV

"See?" Emma said. "I told you you’d end up looking like this."

I glanced at the mirror again. My reflection stared back at the polished and elegant me. I looked nothing like the timid version I always remembered, the girl who used to hide always.

Lolita adjusted a strand of hair, gently. "Trust me... Everyone’s breath is going to be caught in their throat after taking a single glance at you."

"Really?" I muttered, glancing down, trying to hide the shyness creeping into my eyes. "Emma... she looks stunning too."

"Yes!" Emma rose from her seat, her heels clicking softly against the floor as she walked toward me with a warm, teasing smile.

She wore a soft blush-pink gown that flowed gently around her ankles, the satin catching light with every step. The dress was simple, off-shoulder, with a single ribbon cinched at the waist, but it made her look effortlessly graceful.

"This is going to be your day, Sera," she said as her eyes were filled with warmth. "So, I decided to look just a little less dazzling than you."

"What? But why?" My eyes widened in surprise. I couldn’t understand why she would choose that. Even though she looked so beautiful, her gown didn’t have the intricate beadwork or shimmer of the one I wore.

I wore a deep midnight-blue dress with small silver stitches along the neckline, like tiny stars scattered there. The top fit close to my body, and the skirt flowed down to the floor; it was so light, it felt like it moved on its own when I walked.

Emma laughed softly, tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ear. "Because tonight, I don’t want a single person to look at anyone but you. This is your time to shine."

Her words made my heart skip a beat. I didn’t know what to say, so I just stared at her for a moment. Emma had always been steady, cheerful and bright girl, even when she was at her worst.

Lolita’s voice chimed in from the side. "Well, the both of you look perfect to me. But yes, Young Miss, Emma’s right... tonight, you’re the one they should remember."

I swallowed, glancing between the two of them and nodded with a smile.

"Let’s do this!" I clenched my fist and said voice full of determination.

"Are you girls ready!?"

Alistair stepped into the room, dressed in a suit that matched the midnight-blue of my gown that I wore. For a moment, I forgot to breathe. He looked like someone straight out of a dream, like a god who had stepped down to walk among us. My heart started pounding so loudly I thought someone might hear it.

I had seen him dressed like this many times before, but knowing I could keep happy and jolly like this... it gave me the courage to keep moving forward.

"What?" I blinked, still caught staring at him, when Asher walked in from behind.

He wore a crisp white tuxedo with a faint blush of pink in the tie and pocket square that perfectly matcted Emma’s soft blush gown.

Where Alistair was warm and charming, with that easy, gentle smile, Asher was the complete opposite... His eyes were sharp, cold, and dangerous, like he belonged if anyone dared to breathe too loud in his presence, they would die instantly.

They were worlds apart, yet both so strikingly handsome in their own way.

I wished I could freeze this moment and keep them exactly as they were now. I wish they wouldn’t face the difficulties that they had to face in my past life and never lose their confidence ever.

Alistair’s gaze softened as he looked at his wrist watch. "It’s time."

I glanced at Emma. She gave me a small nod, mentioning with her fist, telling me that I can do this. My fingers tightened around the skirt of my dress. I took one deep breath and stepped toward Brother Alis.

My heels clicked against the floor, and the sound seemed to echo around.

The party was waiting. And so was whatever came after.

"Shall we?"

I had just stepped toward Alistair when I heard a soft voice behind me. I turned, and there was Asher. His tone was gentler than I’d ever heard and there was a faint curve at the edge of his mouth

I had just called him cold and dangerous a few minutes ago, but now... seeing him like this, I was caught off guard. The usual sharpness he always had in him was gone, and the usual hard look in his eyes had turned into something softer, which was hard for me to digest.

I tried to look into the memories from my past life, but I couldn’t remember him ever being like this. Back then, he was nothing but icy cold to everyone, even after losing everything. People called him a traitor who betrayed his own country, but he still never backed off.

He never was soft to anyone, had no warmth in his eyes.

But now... after watching him for a while in this life, I’d started to notice that there was one place where his coldness didn’t reach. And that place was Emma.

His eyes stayed on her for just a moment, but he quickly daterd his eyes before anyone could notice. Emma, either not noticed that or pretending not to. She simply smoothed down the skirt of her pale pink dress with a light smile on her face.

Alistair cleared his throat beside me, reminding us that it was the time for us to leave.

Asher stepped forward and held his arm out to Emma. His movements were steady, but careful. She paused for just a second before taking it.

I looked between them, curious but also felt uneasy.

In my past life, they’d never been close and never even crossed paths in any important way. But this time... they seemed to be this close already!

And I couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever was starting between them wasn’t going to be push them to be together.
