Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 76—Lightning Coat
Cole watched the battle rage on in the ring with deep interest.
He stared straight ahead while still standing in his place, but he would soon be ultimately interrupted.
"Excuse me, please," Someone said from behind him.
Cole was immediately snapped out of the trance and back to the moment.
"I need to find a seat as soon as possible," he said anxiously.
With quick and hurried steps, he moved out of the way and towards somewhere to sit.
"Challenges are always the best," Cole heard someone say while he attempted to sit.
He now understood what was going on; he wasn’t quite sure what was actually going on.
He noticed the battling stanzas weren’t the typical ones. They weren’t ranked fighters or super strong second years.
They looked to be two average, even slightly weak ones. Cole felt there was a difference because the two students were fighting with all they have.
This was different from how it usually was. Most people just fought for Victory but the two of them fought for something more.
This was the exact reason this battle was so attractive to people.
Cole himself could feel the tension and deadliness attached to battles like this.
The combating students took a breather while they separated harshly.
The one that interested Cole had a lightning-like Innate spirit. It allowed him to shroud his entire body in blue lightning.
That was exactly what attracted Cole. He had previously attempted to record a lightning ability, so seeing one again made him quite excited.
The ability provided the user what appeared to be an increase in speed while also providing great offense.
Cole analyzed the benefits of the ability and how efficient it will be with his current one.
"The speed boost synergizes perfectly with Kinetic Acceleration resulting in faster speed, and it also provides a formidable damage boost."
"This would be perfect."
"I will try my best to get this, and let’s hope it isn’t a 3-star."
Having made his attempt to record that ability, Cole didn’t bother with wasting any more time.
He quickly activated the Eyes of Scrutiny to check out his opponent.
To his relief, he was able to observe some things in the opponent.
It felt just like how things were when he was about to record the Kinetic Acceleration but the stress on him was much weaker.
"It seems this is a 2-star," Cole thought.
"Thankfully I advanced; it is much easier now."
Despite being much easier than it previously was, It was still leagues above the difficulty of the 1-star ability.
With the Eyes of Scrutiny, Cole observed the Life energy flow in the target.
The pathways of flow and everything, making sure they all stuck to his head as much as possible.
He studied the battle between his target and his opponent.
The opponent also had an Elemental Innate spirit, a wind-based one.
It looked like a ball of wind.
"Ball of Lightning vs. Ball of Wind, that’s really unique," Cole thought.
As Cole watched longer, creases appeared on his forehead.
Observing the pathways in the target’s body, he noticed some inefficiencies.
Utilization of abilities was not completely absolute. The person’s personal preference determines some things.
For example, a hand can be used to pick up things, but the way it is differs.
Cole observed the student not completely utilizing the ability due to the preference.
Cole was able to remember the new feature he got when he advanced.
"Knowledge is malleable."
Time went on as Cole kept studying the intricacies of the ability. And just like the previous time, the battle seemed to be concluding too early.
The battle was in its final stages as the attacks grew fiercer in intensity.
The opponent sent out weak wind slashes all around, almost completely blocking out all means of escape.
He even controlled the wind around him and morphed it into tiny bullets.
Sending them straight at his opponent.
The lightning-shrouded student didn’t falter too much, though, with his enhanced speed.
He blitzed all around, dodging most of the attacks despite still getting hit.
He rushed towards his enemy with the same momentum, not giving him any time to breathe.
Just like lightning, he appeared in front of the enemy and sent out lightning-empowered punches straight at his head.
The opponent was completely ready, though; he had kept two air bullets ready just beside him.
The moment the lightning-shrouded student got to the right range. He immediately released them.
The bullets flew straight at the center of the student’s head. Ready to completely pierce his brain.
But with the student’s Lightning enhanced reflexes, he was able to react in time, partially dodging the bullet by a close shave.
But he wasn’t able to escape unscathed, though; the bullet scraped across his face, leaving a bloody streak.
With intense anger as a result of his injuries. They sent out a barrage of punches aimed directly at the opponent’s head.
One by one, the punches landed, accompanying them with tiny shockwaves.
The barrage continued, hitting the student in all sorts of places on the head.
Leaving them either bruised or even bleeding heavily.
Cole was shocked by the lethality of this battle, but something else was pressing him more.
"The battle is about to end, and I am not even close, what do I do?"
His mind raced extremely fast as he thought of ways out of his current predicament.
The punches had already gotten to the peak, and the student on the receiving end of it all had already lost consciousness completely.
The referee rushed into the ring, ready to stop the battle and prevent fatal injuries.
But the student hadn’t completely lost his mind; his punches gradually slowed before finally coming to a stop.
The referee breathed a sigh of relief before getting ready to announce the victory.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner."
"It’s Stormchaserrrrrrr," he screamed out.
The crowd was just about to scream out when they heard a voice from somewhere beside them.
"Trash," Cole shouted with a slightly panicked face.
