Chapter 218: Chapter 218: The Ancient One

[3rd POV]

Walking through the New York Sanctum, Gwen could feel the power that was quite literally imbued into the surroundings. The very walls had an almost dimensional might to them, imbued with thousands of years of magical spells and wards, all so that they would be next to impossible to break into.

Gwen opted to silently make a clone that would then go and copy all the books in the area. Her magic was so powerful that it very easily cloaked Gwen from the sights of others, as the clone ran off to get to work. It would copy every single book in the library and then send the copies off for her other clones to read.

There were definitely magic spells there that would be of use to her, and some of the languages they had books on were long extinct, ancient and usually impossible to understand. In the case of the languages, she would publish those to the Mars internet so that others could learn it, as she wasn’t interested.

She understood all languages relatively easily, with only the absolute peak of language being harder for her to learn. So they’d be useless to her, but she imagined that some of the language nerds or even some scientists would be interested in it.

Walking through the halls of the Sanctum, Gwen also noticed the glances that she was receiving by most of the sorcerers there, glances of confusion and in the case of some of them, distrust. Almost like some of them knew who she was, or at the very least, knew that the Ancient One had been searching for her.

Not surprising, as the woman hadn’t been very quiet in her methods. She had gotten more and more desperate to find Gwen, and had been using all sorts of spells and rituals in order to do so. She had even used her stone, but it had been for naught, nothing worked, and she had been forced to give up, or at the very least, slow down her search in favor of focusing on the sanctums.

Walking around a few more corners, Gwen eventually found herself in front of a simple looking door, one that seemingly led into another place, likely Kamar Taj, the true base for the Mystic Forces, and where the Ancient One was based out of.

Gwen didn’t care much, as she opened the door and walked through, the surroundings warping as at the very same time, she created another clone to find and copy all texts in the place. It had better books and rarer ones than the New York Sanctum did, by a long shot.

Walking in, Gwen found herself face to face with the woman that had been searching for her for so long. The Ancient one, who looked exactly like her movie counterpart, but a bit younger looking.

"I’ve seen that you’ve been searching for me. And considering the oncoming threat, I thought it’d be nice to talk with you, finally" Gwen said with a smile, as she sat down across from the woman who was sat upon the ground on a pillow.

"...What are you?" The Ancient One asked, the first question she had asked, and the first words she had spoken to Gwen.

"Hmmm, complicated question there, Yao. I am a lot of things, but you can just call me Gwen, all my friends do" Gwen said with a smile, as the woman stared at her deeply, especially once she heard her name being dropped.

Yao’s name was not common knowledge, and yet, Gwen had casually uttered it as if it was no big deal.

"Are you a God? A Greek? Or perhaps some sort of Celestial?" The Ancient One asked, as Gwen chuckled.

"I am partially a God I suppose, but I am no celestial. I cannot hope to compare to them, not yet. They’re....a bit beyond the current me. As for what I am the God of...well, let’s just say I have plenty of domains to choose from" Gwen said with a smile, deciding not to lie to the woman across from her.

She knew the Ancient One more than any other person, for she had her memories, or at least a version of her. So she knew that the woman, while flawed, was a good person. She also knew that she did everything she did for the betterment of humanity, even if some of the actions she committed were...questionable at best.

"...And why are you here?" The Ancient One questioned, as for once in her life, she truly had no knowledge of the person in front of her. She knew not of her past, present, or future. It was as if Gwen was a ghost, a perfect, impossible ghost.

"To help you. That, and I have always wished to see this place at least once. Perhaps even gain your help in the battle against Galactus, who will spell doom for this world should we not stop him" Gwen replied simply.

"And how do you wish to help me?"

"I can get rid of the corruption that is tearing away at you, Yao. The darkness of Dormammu. He’s eating at you even now, is he not? I can get rid of it, permanently, even heal you, help you remain until your successor is brought forth, until the Doctor is ready" Gwen responded, the Ancient One looking her in the eyes at these words.

"I would say I am surprised that you have knowledge of him, of me, but considering what you say you are...I am not. What is the price of your help?"

"Simple. I wish to learn everything your order has to learn. Every spell, every book, everything. I am knowledgeable, more than any other being in this universe, and likely any other. But I do not know everything, and I would very much like to improve on that. After that? I wish to teach others your art. On my lands upon Mars, we have sorcerers, those that can use your form of magic, but I wish to teach more people that, and I believe that you can help me. Perhaps I will even let you create a sanctum upon Mars, so that both your order, and my people, can grow" Gwen answered, as the Ancient One let out a sigh.

"Now I understand why I could not find you no matter how hard I had tried. I can agree to the knowledge, as that is an easy trade for your help. But building another sanctum upon Mars may prove to be...difficult"

"I can deal with the building and the creation of a portal from here to Mars, that part is easy" Gwen replied with a shrug, as she could have the building and the portal built within a couple of hours at most.

"And what of the...darkness within me? Of Dormammu’s influence? How can you possibly rid me of it?" The Ancient One questioned, as Gwen smiled.

"Give me your hand, and I’ll do the rest" Gwen said, as the woman paused, looking at her for a few moments before doing as she was told, as Gwen gripped her hand in her own, and began to...absorb it.

She did not want to destroy the power, but instead absorb it and make it her own, wrenching it from Dormammu’s influence, making it a part of her power.

But upon beginning her absorption, she began to notice that it was no mere fragment of power...it was a fragment of his very soul, a powerful fragment, but nothing in comparison to her own soul, which weighed down upon it akin to a tsunami, washing over it as she absorbed the fragment into her own soul, cleansing it.

She could feel her power begin to rise rapidly for a few moments, as a notification appeared in her vision.

[Fragment]

[Absorb a fragment of Dormammu’s power, put into the Ancient One in hopes of utilizing it to corrupt the woman. This fragment is unlike any other, and stronger than the others due to it possessing a portion of his soul, a small portion, but a portion nonetheless. Thanks to this, you have permanently weakened him!]

[Rewards - 200 TL Tickets]

Reading over this notification, Gwen blinked a few times, before smiling, as she had one thought on her mind.

’...Nice’
