Chapter 1342: Travel Together

This pink-skinned girl was clearly no ordinary figure among the Huusians, given the fact that she wielded a divine artifact.

If Sein killed her now, he knew he would be asking for trouble.

Since he did not want to be hunted down by a squad of interstellar mercenaries, he could neither stand by and watch her get seriously injured, nor worse, killed.

With a soft sigh, Sein darted forward.

A beam of purple flame shot from his fingertips, striking the giant toad’s swelling belly. At the same time, he grabbed the girl who was still in a daze.

BOOM!

The violent blast shook the asteroid belt, hurling massive rocks aside in all directions.

Because Sein had triggered the detonation early, the toad’s self-destructive force scattered harmlessly in other directions.

He yanked the pink-skinned girl to safety, his red magic robe billowing in the blast’s shockwave as he turned to leave.

In the girl’s eyes, he was a green-skinned humanoid, as he was currently disguised as a Bokrian.

Her eyes lit up with instant admiration at the sight of the heroic figure framed against the starry sky.

Before he could get far, she caught up to him. “Thank you for saving me! Is there anything I can do to repay you?”

Feeling her closing in, Sein sighed and pointed at his waist. “Does that repayment involve stabbing me twice more?”

Her pink cheeks turned a deeper shade of red.

Earlier, when the toad was on the verge of self-destructing, she had frozen in place. But the moment Sein pulled her away, she instinctively swung her lightsaber at him.

Sein was unharmed, but his Faceless Mask and the clothes conjured from elemental energy had been damaged.

To conceal his true strength and identity, Sein had even faked a splash of green blood at his waist.

“I’m sorry... I’ll heal you.” She then glanced at his still-smoking spacecraft and quickly added, “It seems like I’ve accidentally damaged your spacecraft too... I’ll make it up to you!”

“No need,” Sein said, shaking his head as he flew back toward his vessel.

He silently cursed his rotten luck. All he could do now was work out how long it would take to fix the spacecraft and how much harder he would need to push it afterward to reach the next target star domain on time.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Then came the roar of engines as dozens of smaller swallowtail spacecraft appeared in the surrounding starfield.

Along with them, a white, medium-sized rectangular spaceship slowly emerged from the asteroid belt.

Over a hundred Huusian warriors in specialized combat suits poured into the open space and quickly gathered around the pink-skinned girl.

From faint voices and subtle mental ripples, Sein caught them addressing her as “Princess”.

After instructing her warriors to deal with the remains of the Rank Three giant toad, she came over to Sein again.

“Your side thruster seems broken. Let us tow yours back for repairs?” she offered.

“Our planetary fortress is just close by. I really want to repay you for saving me earlier.” She smiled sweetly at him.

Sein had not expected this Huusian girl to be so persistent and so eager to repay a debt of gratitude.

It was a far cry from the other interstellar groups he had met.

Still, when he had first arrived in this star domain, he had heard the Huusians were a decent bunch.

They were scattered across the stars, united mainly by tribal bonds.

They worked for anyone who would hire them, prizing honesty above all else. Though poor, they were fiercely united within their tribe.

In short, they were interstellar mercenaries, living from job to job.

It was said their ancestors had once been glorious, but those days were long gone.

No one knew where their homeplane was, or when they had first wandered into this star domain.

For the past two millennia, they had survived by taking whatever work they could find in the surrounding star domains.

Sein looked at the Huusian warriors, then at the white spaceship. He sighed in resignation and said, “Fine. But I need to get to the Bext Nebula soon. I hope you guys can fix it within two weeks.”

“You’re going to Bext?” she asked, eyes widening. “Are you heading to the Zeak Empire too?”

The Bext Nebula was the last stop on Sein’s route. Once he passed through it, he would officially enter the territory controlled by the Gallant Federation.

The Gallant Federation was not a single monolithic power. Much like the Magus Civilization, it commanded a number of allied civilizations. Some of them were strong enough to be considered large-sized world civilizations in their own right.

The Zeak Empire was one of those worlds.

Interestingly, it was not a technological civilization at all, but one whose development revolved around individual cultivation.

That meant the war between the Magus Civilization and the Gallant Federation was not simply a clash of magic and technology.

For those on the battlefield, there was no telling exactly what kind of enemies they might face.

The Zeak Empire was one of Sein’s planned destinations. He studied the pink-skinned girl for a moment before nodding.

Perfect. We’ve been hired by the Zeak Empire too, so that’s where we’re headed next. Come with us, our ship is much faster than yours!” she offered brightly.

This time, Sein paused before agreeing.

“Oh, I never asked your name. I’m Gwyneira,” the pink-skinned girl introduced herself.

Sein thought for a moment before replying, “The name’s Bousse. Bokrian from Chida Star Domain.”

“Bokrian, huh? I think I’ve heard of your kind... You’re kind of like us Huusians,” Gwyneira mused.

Before long, the hatch of the white spaceship opened.

Sein’s vessel was towed inside by several Huusian swallowtail spacecraft.

From the white spaceship, an elderly Huusian with deeply wrinkled skin drifted toward Gwyneira and Sein.

This was the Rank Four being that Sein had sensed earlier.

Although the Huusians were nomads, they were far from weak.

Not only did they field a sizable fleet, but they also had a fair number of Rank Four and higher beings.

No wonder even a large world like the Zeak Empire would hire them.
