Sovereign of the Ashes-Chapter 1341: Pink-skinned Girl
It was a swallowtail-winged spacecraft that had attacked Sein.
He had seen this type before—it was the most common combat craft used by the Huusians.
It had plenty of drawbacks: small size, limited ammo capacity, and a short flight range. But it also had its perks: high maneuverability, easy production, and dirt-cheap repair costs.
This one was not after him, though.
It was chasing a Rank Three creature that looked like a giant toad with two wings growing from its back, weaving through the asteroid belt.
The hit to Sein’s wing earlier had just been a misfire.
Before entering this star domain, Sein had already heard that the Huusians had been hired by the Rismanians to fight in their war against a world known as Pothos.
Normally, it was the Magus Civilization doing the conquering. Watching two other civilizations go at it from the sidelines was pretty entertaining. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
He had even asked around about the conflict back at the last interstellar port, but also quickly pushed it to the back of his mind.
From what he had heard, the fighting was mostly happening inside Pothos itself, and the powerful Rismanians were already close to victory.
The current chase he was watching probably meant that the winged toad had escaped its homeworld, and the swallowtail spacecraft had been sent to hunt it down.
“Could this be the bit of trouble my divination just warned me about?” Sein muttered with a wry smile, glancing at the thick black smoke billowing from the hole torn in his spacecraft’s wing.
His vessel looked worse than it actually was. It was built tough, and even the damaged wing could be fixed with the spare parts he had on board, though it would be tedious and time-consuming.
The smoke quickly drew the attention of both pursuer and prey.
The giant toad was the first to veer toward Sein. It had a nasty, deep wound running clear through its pale lower belly.
The swallowtail craft was hot on its trail.
Sein raised his eyebrows at the toad barreling straight at him.
He had no intention of getting involved, but the creature was clearly treating him like a lifeline.
He swore under his breath. In his spacecraft’s current condition, shaking off either of them would be tricky.
Within moments, the toad had almost reached him.
Just as Sein was scanning his surroundings, weighing whether a fight here might draw unwanted attention, the situation suddenly changed.
As it turned out, the toad had never been seeking his help. It had been planning to use him as a distraction all along.
As the spacecraft chased it at full throttle, the giant toad suddenly twisted its head and spat a string of green energy pellets from its mouth.
The blasts that followed were bigger and tighter than before, erupting right in front of Sein’s spacecraft.
When the explosions cleared, the toad was drooling heavily.
It looked worn out, but those bulging eyes still glared at Sein with malicious intent.
This creature from Pothos could feed on nearly anything, and it had clearly decided Sein’s spacecraft was on the menu.
Before it could make a move, a streak of green light shot out from the flames of the explosion.
A sleek figure burst forth. It was a humanoid female, about two meters tall.
Aside from her pink skin, she looked almost identical to a Magus World human, and she appeared to be a young lady.
She was Rank Three as well, wielding a light sword that extended from her sleeve.
The fight between the two flared up again.
The toad was badly wounded, but it fought back fiercely. Being stronger than the girl, it even managed to gain the upper hand in the clash that followed.
Still, its injuries were piling up.
This place was far from safe, and other Huusians could show up at any moment, so the toad had to rely on someone else’s strength to survive.
It pushed toward Sein even faster.
Although Sein had no desire to get caught between the two, they were both making a beeline for him.
He summoned his magic rod into his hand, and with a quick incantation, drew several massive asteroids from the surrounding belt to float in front of him.
They appeared to drift lazily through space, but in truth, they were locked squarely in the toad’s path.
Given its size and strength, the toad could have smashed through any ordinary asteroid. But this time, it was in for a surprise.
The gray stones had been reinforced until they were as hard as adamantine.
When the toad slammed into one, the asteroid did not budge, and a miserable scream tore from its throat.
Foul-smelling blood splashed across the rocky surface.
The pink-skinned girl finally caught up and seized the moment, driving her lightsaber into the toad’s spine.
She had no idea what had just happened, but she had no time to think. She was not about to waste her chance to strike either.
A blinding light erupted in the starfield, and the toad’s spine was severed in that dazzling glow.
Sein was surprised. He had not expected this pink-skinned girl, a mere Rank Three, to be wielding a divine artifact—and a pretty high-quality one at that.
The power of laws in the lightsaber glowed brilliantly, and he could see a complex pattern along the blade. It was the totem of the Huusians.
Even with its spine crushed, the giant toad was not dead yet.
Its white belly swelled grotesquely with each breath, while blood and greasy fluid oozed from its wounds.
The swelling showed no sign of stopping.
It was about to self-destruct!
The pink-skinned girl was courageous, with solid combat skills and good battlefield judgment, but she clearly lacked experience.
Faced with a giant toad on the brink of self-destructing, she froze, unsure what to do.
A faint red elemental shield shimmered into existence in the surrounding starfield.
Sein’s spacecraft was already damaged, and he had no intention of letting it take another hit.
A surge of mana radiated from his magic rod.
He was just about to finish off the pink-skinned girl as well when a sudden wave of powerful energy rippled through the void.
Sein immediately put his magic rod away.
Someone was approaching, and there were quite a few of them. Some of them also seemed to be Rank Fours.
