Chapter 149 - Unexpected Meeting and Dark Clues
Unexpected Meeting and Dark Clues
Natasha quickly put away her weapon as she helped Sirius to his feet.
"So, what are you doing here? "Sirius asked quickly as he dusted off his dirty clothes.
"The same question could be asked of you "Natasha replied bluntly.
"A friend of mine is undercover around here. I came to check on him "Sirius said in a murmur as he looked around to see if anyone was listening.
"I see. "Natasha pondered for a moment before adding". Let's go, I'll go with you. Maybe your friend can give me some information.
Her quick response surprised Sirius, but he didn't complain.
"...Sure "Sirius said, glancing curiously at the unfamiliar face Natasha now wore. But he quickly shrugged and took the lead while Natasha followed.
They moved deeper into Knockturn Alley, where dark wizards began to thin out, and vagrants filled the street with vacant stares and filthy rags. They arrived at a half-ruined house, and Sirius knocked on the door in a special way.
After a few seconds, the door opened, and Remus Lupin appeared with a smile upon seeing his old friend.
"Padfoot "Lupin said as he gave Sirius a strong hug. Then he looked suspiciously at the woman behind him". Who's the lady following you? Some new fetish of yours for old ladies? "he teased with a mischievous grin.
Sirius growled as he dropped into a chair.
"Ha, ha, very funny, Moony. This woman could kick your ass easily. I'd watch what you say.
"Wow, that is unusual. I thought you'd rather die than admit you were beaten by an old lady, Padfoot "Lupin replied with obvious amusement. But his tone grew more serious as he studied Natasha". Although... something tells me that appearance is just a facade.
"You have a good eye. "Natasha gave an enigmatic smile before slowly raising her hands and undoing her disguise, revealing her true face.
Lupin blinked a few times before his eyes widened in shock.
"By Merlin! "he exclaimed in surprise". That, I did not expect. Natasha Flamel, right? I've heard your name before, but... "Lupin let out a disbelieving laugh". I didn't expect you to be here, much less with Padfoot.
"Now you realize how impressive it was that she didn't kick my ass? "Sirius huffed, crossing his arms with obvious annoyance.
"I'll admit it, you have my respect, Padfoot. "Lupin smirked mockingly before focusing on Natasha". What are you doing here? This is hardly a tourist spot.
"I'm looking for information about a group called "The Shadow Claw." "Natasha's voice was cold and precise, clearly indicating she wasn't in the mood for jokes.
Lupin let out a heavy sigh as he ran a hand through his messy hair.
"They've been moving around here. They're looking for someone, though I have no idea who. They've been making deals with pseudo-nobles to obtain resources or information.
"And what are you doing caught up in that mess, Moony? "Sirius interrupted, frowning with genuine concern.
"Work, Padfoot. Someone has to do more than just live like a carefree noble. "Lupin smiled, though his tone was more reproachful than mocking". Besides, if it wasn't for me, maybe no one would know those people are lurking around here.
"Anything else we should know? "Natasha asked, ignoring the little argument between the two friends.
"Nothing concrete, for now. But they're preparing for something big. That's for sure. "Lupin leaned forward, his gaze intense and serious". And if you're investigating these people, it means your problems are bigger than I thought.
"For some reason, they came looking for me. And they might be involved in something else. I need to figure out how and why "Natasha said as she tried to organize her thoughts.
"Why not ask your siblings for help? With them around, I think it would be easy to destroy a dark wizard organization "Sirius suggested as he looked for something to drink as if he were at home. Lupin didn't seem to mind.
"Well, it's sort of a tradition we have. If we can solve it ourselves, we simply will. We'll only ask for help if we really need it "Natasha replied calmly.
The quick meeting to gather information ended, and Natasha was preparing to leave. However, Lupin observed Sirius with interest before grinning teasingly.
"Since the little noble Black is here, why not use him as your helper? I don't need him hanging around while I work. And even if he seems a bit silly, he's quite strong. He'll be good help. "Lupin's smile widened as he shot a knowing look at Natasha". And who knows, maybe he's trying to impress you with his heroic skills.
"Shut up, Moony! "Sirius protested, clearly irritated.
Natasha let out a slight laugh at Lupin's provocation, though her eyes still showed seriousness.
"Well, I suppose having someone to watch my back doesn't sound so bad. At least you'll serve as a human shield."
"Shield? That's more than I could hope for. Although..." Lupin leaned slightly forward with a mischievous smile. "Now that I think about it, how did the great Padfoot end up working for you?"
"I'm not working for anyone!" Sirius quickly refuted, crossing his arms with evident annoyance. "I'm here because I wanted to make sure you were okay, Moony. And I can see you're perfectly fine, even enough to be teasing your old friends."
"Ah, but it's so easy to mess with you, Padfoot. Although I must admit, you've surprised me this time." Lupin glanced back at Natasha, his eyes assessing every detail of her face. "And I must say, I understand why you're so willing to help her," he murmured toward Sirius, though Natasha obviously heard him.
"What do you mean by that?" Sirius asked, frowning.
"Come on, Padfoot. Even you can't deny you're willing to throw yourself into the fire for a girl as beautiful as her. It's almost like you're trying to impress her," Lupin replied with feigned innocence, though his smile betrayed he was enjoying every second of his friend's discomfort.
Sirius gritted his teeth and replied, "You're talking about my godson's sister. I don't think of her that way," he said quickly, annoyed by his friend's comment.
Lupin let out a sigh as he looked at Sirius, realizing that perhaps even he hadn't noticed his own feelings. "Whatever you say," Lupin said as he raised his hands in surrender. Then, he turned his gaze to Natasha. "Like I said before, I know those people are looking for someone, but what worries me is that they're acting very cautiously. It seems they're trying to avoid drawing the attention of certain groups... and, by the way they're moving, they're probably trying to avoid your brothers, Natasha. Or more precisely, your two loudest brothers," he added quickly, referring to Stephen and Wanda, who had demonstrated high levels of power in various places. Especially Stephen, who had been known since his youth for his dueling tournaments.
"That makes sense. They must know that if they confront any of the Flamels directly, their days are numbered," Natasha mused, her fingers tapping impatiently on the table.
"Exactly. That's why they're using intermediaries and manipulating pseudo-nobles desperate for a little power. If I can get more information, I'll let you know. But..." Lupin glanced at Sirius with a weary expression. "You know my work here is dangerous. And the less I see you around, the better."
"I'm leaving, I'm leaving. You don't have to insist so much," Sirius grumbled before getting up from the chair. Then, he looked at Natasha. "Shall we go?"
"Yes, let's go. Thanks for the information," Natasha said as she looked at Lupin.
"I should be the one thanking you... for taking care of Harry," Lupin replied with a friendly smile.
"That lunatic needs to learn to care more about himself than others..." Sirius muttered under his breath as they left the house.
"In that sense, he's a lot like you," Natasha commented, causing Sirius to fall silent for a moment before a small smile formed on his face.
"Maybe you're right. But for now, what are you planning to do?" Sirius asked as they walked through the dark alley.
"Follow the trail of those pseudo-nobles and see what kind of deal they made with The Shadow Claw. But first... I better cover myself again," Natasha said as she adopted her elderly disguise once more, her face now a blank mask.
"Don't you like showing your true face?" Sirius joked with a mischievous grin. "Because, frankly, I don't think it helps much if you're trying to keep a low profile."
"I prefer not to draw too much attention. That way, I can move more freely." Natasha continued down the alley, her gaze always alert. "Now, show me those contacts of yours. Maybe we can get something useful out of them."

✨ The next Chapter will bring interesting changes. We'll dive into the story of one of the other siblings. Maybe Wanda and her mysterious romance, or Stephen exploring his own love. It could also be an unforgettable adventure starring Tony, Loki, and Harry. I haven't decided yet, but what's certain is that I'll leave behind all the clues and all that... hahaha!
