Sons of a devil-Chapter 67: Rise before ruin
Chapter 67 - Rise before ruin
The night didn't stay quiet for long.
An unnatural chill swept through the forest as Cain, Selene, Leo, and Eren stood on the cliffside. Behind them, their mother—Aelira—emerged from the trees, her silver hair glowing like a storm cloud charged with lightning.
She had awakened fully.
Selene leaned against Cain, still reeling from the earlier revelation and the surge of her powers. Her body trembled, her hands faintly glowing with soft golden light that crackled now and then with violet streaks.
"They're near," Aelira said calmly, her voice smooth but powerful. "He's sending his demons again."
Cain stepped forward. "Then let them come. We're not running anymore."
Leo's eyes ignited a fiery gold, flames curling around his fingers. "Let's burn some bastards."
Eren grinned. "About time."
Without warning, the ground around them pulsed—a rupture in the air like a scream. Shadows slithered into shape, and demonic figures burst from the trees with inhuman snarls, eyes glowing red.
Cain's wings—black and gleaming like onyx—shot out behind him. He flew forward, fists glowing with dark flame, punching a demon mid-air and sending it hurtling through three trees.
Selene tried to stand upright but her knees buckled. She was too powerful now, her body still adjusting to the energy inside her. Every breath she took came with a sharp tug on her ribs, like her soul was stretching too fast.
Aelira stepped beside her, placing a glowing palm on Selene's back. "You're stronger than you know, my dear. But be careful. That kind of power... comes at a cost."
"I can help," Selene said, voice shaking, eyes shimmering with light. "I have to help."
Leo summoned a wall of fire, spinning and trapping three demons inside it. Eren cracked open a portal with a swipe of his hand, sending two enemies falling into a pit of darkness.
Then—
He arrived.
Their father.
He stepped out from the fog as if he were born from it. Tall, regal, with eyes the color of dying stars—so full of sadness, rage, and something else: longing.
"Cain," he said softly. "Leo. Eren. My sons."
The battle slowed. The demons hissed but didn't attack. The air shifted.
Cain held his stance, fists clenched, wings twitching. "You have no right to call us that."
The Devil's gaze lingered on Selene. "And you... you're more radiant than I imagined. You carry both my darkness and her light."
Selene tried to rise again, but her power surged violently, knocking her back to her knees. Aelira held her before she fell, her own energy stabilizing her daughter-in-law's aura.
"You used me," Selene gasped. "You tried to control me."
"I needed you," he replied, almost gently. "But not to destroy. I wanted to reunite what was broken. You don't understand—"
"Don't pretend this was love," Leo snarled. His flames rose like a wall behind him. "You abandoned us."
"I never stopped loving you," the Devil said, eyes glowing dimly. "I watched every moment you grew. I tried to keep my distance, to keep you safe. I am... what I am. But you are what we created together."
Aelira stepped forward. "You mean what I saved from you."
He looked at her with something like regret. "You made them strong."
Eren, ever the wildcard, stepped in. "Look, family drama aside—are we doing this, or are we hugging it out?"
Cain shook his head with a dry laugh. "Only you would crack a joke with Satan in the room."
Selene stood slowly, her light pulsing again, tears in her eyes. "If you really loved them—you'll let them go. Let us go."
The Devil's face flickered with something unreadable.
More demons surrounded them. It wasn't over.
"Then show me," he said softly, almost pleading. "Show me what love looks like... and fight for it."
Selene's body ignited with a blinding light that shook the earth. She screamed—not in pain, but power—unleashing a wave of force that sent every demon flying.
But she collapsed right after, heart racing, her skin glowing faintly, breath shallow.
Cain caught her. "I've got you. I'll always have you."

Aelira lifted her head, eyes sharp. "This ends soon."
