Chapter 1670: Chapter 112 : Only Us

*Kryzen*

“Are you sure this is appropriate?”

I glanced over at my wife. Her bright green eyes were wide with worry as she looked up at me, her lower lip poking out in a defined pout.

I still couldn’t believe that Briella was my wife. She was officially Briella Stormfall, and I had a feeling that I would never tire of acknowledging that fact.

“What do you mean, Mrs. Stormfall?” I asked teasingly, even though I understood her reservations. “Are you really so opposed to going on a honeymoon with your new husband?”

Briella rolled her eyes. At that moment, I couldn’t help but admire her. She seemed to glow ever since our wedding just a couple of days earlier.

“Of course, I’m not opposed to it,” she said with a light huff. “But we’re the king and queen, Kryzen. Should we really be going on an extended vacation when there is still so much to do?”

Briella had a point, and I knew that well. I had debated the potential irresponsibility of it myself. Still, we had wanted to go on a honeymoon, so I took the necessary steps to make it possible.

“Roy and Alyna are going to be more than slightly affronted if they learn how much you’re worrying,” I told her half-teasingly. “They were excited to take care of things for us, you know.”

Briella frowned, looking away with just a little bit of guilt.

I shook my head fondly at her before tilting her chin up with my finger. “They’ll be fine without us for a couple of weeks. I see nothing wrong with leaving the kingdom in the capable hands of our best friends and going on a honeymoon like any other married couple would.”

Briella nodded, but I could tell she wasn’t a hundred percent convinced. I understood that as well. After the battle against Tian, I could see why she felt like we should be home in case something else happened.

But we couldn’t continue to live in fear. We were finally in a time of peace. I was determined to enjoy my time with my new wife.

“You look beautiful today,” I told her, half to distract her and half because it was absolutely true.

She was wearing a light green dress with yellow flowers. The color complimented her vibrant eyes perfectly. Her curly hair was down around her face. It had gotten even longer and was nearly tumbling down her back to her waist.

She smiled shyly at me and toyed with the fabric of the dress. “I didn’t used to like dresses,” she admitted, even though I well knew that fact.

“You didn’t have to wear one for me,” I told her. “Although I do love them on you. Gives me easier access.”

She gasped and swatted at me, but I could see the laughter in her eyes. “I think my wedding dress made me like wearing dresses,” she said. “They’re so light and fun. Easy to move around in. I found them impractical when I was growing up, but that might have been because I was always sparring and training as a kid.”

I chuckled, able to picture that a little too easily. Briella got frustrated easily as a child. I could imagine a young Briella wearing a dress and trying to do some simple kicks, only to have her movements hindered by the ruffly skirts.

We both looked up when a whistling sound erupted in the distance. The Embervale Express was almost there. We decided that taking the train as far as it would go and exploring the different stops along the way would be a perfect way to spend our honeymoon.

The sleek white train was similar to the one in Celestial City. This one was much larger and supposedly ran primarily on magic. It did seem to glow as it pulled up.

Briella’s eyes were glittering as we boarded the enchanted train. We found an empty car with push velvet-lined seats and golden fixtures. There was a plush bed with a quilted white comforter and a little dining area.

Briella squealed upon seeing our private room. She immediately ran over to the plush bed, hopping on top of it and spreading her limbs out wide. She was so small that her hands and feet didn’t even come close to touching the edges.

I smirked, feeling almost predatory as I approached the bed. Briella’s eyes were closed, a small smile on her lips. She didn’t even hear me pounce. She shrieked when I landed right on top of her relaxed form, trapping her beneath me.

“Kryzen! No, stop!” she begged with a laugh as I started to kiss the side of her neck and run my fingers down her sides.

Briella was insanely ticklish, and I was going to take full advantage.

I flipped her over onto her stomach easily. She probably could have fought me off, but being tickled tended to turn the muscles into mush. Once I had her on her stomach, I wrapped one arm around her shoulders, pinning her arms to her sides, and used my other hand to continue tickling her sides.

“Kryzen, I swear, if you don’t get off of me right now...” she seethed between laughter.

I ignored her completely, pressing a few light kisses against the side of her neck again, causing her to squeal even more.

I was having too much fun to consider that I might be going too far. By the time I did realize it, it was too late. Briella had hooked her foot around my ankle, shifting me just enough so she was able to slip out of my hold and roll herself onto my back, effectively pinning me down against the mattress.

“I warned you,” she said dangerously between her teeth.

That was when the real wrestling began. Briella had always been a capable fighter. The fact we were on our honeymoon didn’t change that. She grabbed my arms and attempted to pin them to my back, but I was quite a bit stronger and faster than she was. I inhaled and reversed our positions, once again pinning her down beneath me.

Briella was quicker to retaliate this time before I could tickle her. She once again slipped out of my grasp, pushing me away with her small feet. I nearly fell off of the large bed but was able to catch myself and lunge at my wife again. She dodged neatly before trying to do the same, throwing herself at me.

All she managed to do was find herself caught in my arms. We fell against the mattress together, Briella tucked against my chest. We lay side by side, one of my arms wrapped around her waist. I grinned fondly at her before pressing my mouth to hers, relishing in the sweet taste of her.

“This train is amazing,” Briella said as we sat down for dinner later that evening. “It hardly feels like we’re moving at all.”

That was true. Briella and I were sitting at a tiny booth that was pushed up against the window of our private suite. The train had a chef who brought us a gourmet meal of stewed meats and roasted vegetables.

Briella looked out the window often during this trip, her eyes wide as she watched trees whiz passed.

“Are the trees really that interesting?” I teased.

I knew even before she answered that they were. It no doubt had something to do with the supernatural connection Briella had to the Embervale. She could hear and feel things that I just never would.

“I think Embervale is really happy,” she said to me in a far-off voice.

“What makes you say so?” I asked, fascinated by the prospect of the land having emotions.

“It’s just a feeling I’ve been getting since our coronation,” she said. “There’s this warmth that’s almost golden. It’s been everywhere lately. It felt especially bright on our wedding day.”

I appreciated the way she talked about it. She knew I had no idea what that would feel like, but that didn’t stop her from describing it in a way that was accurate to her.

“You were glowing brightly that day too,” I couldn’t help but tell her.

She blushed. The pink was smooth and very becoming against her creamy skin. “It was the best day of my life,” she told me honestly, looking a little shy to be admitting that.

“It was definitely mine as well,” I said. I smirked. “I especially enjoyed the part where you called me an arrogant jerk in front of our family and friends.”

“I said that you used to be an arrogant jerk,” she corrected. “Just like you told everyone that I used to be an annoying little girl.”

I chuckled lightly. She had me there. I reached across the table and took her hands. “I don’t want you to think about our responsibilities while we’re on this trip,” I told her seriously.

Briella just stared at me. “That sounds a little impossible,” she told me dryly. “I can’t just turn off the part of my brain that is the queen of Embervale. I can’t just pretend that I’m not.”

I ran my fingers over her knuckles, waiting for her to finish. I should have expected that reaction. She was far too selfless. “Let’s just try,” I suggested to her gently. “For the next couple of weeks, we don’t have to be anyone else except for Kryzen and Briella, husband and wife.”

Briella smiled softly, squeezing my hands back. “That does sound really nice,” she admitted.

We fell asleep wound in each other’s arms that night, just relishing in the fact that we were a married couple. I pondered over the meaning of our union the moment I decided I was going to propose to her. I had been raised not to take relationships lightly, and I knew from her mother being a matchmaker, that Briella had been taught the same.

As a king and queen, we would naturally need to put our citizens above all else. If we were to rule effectively, it would be vital to take care of ourselves. We needed to take care of each other.

As I watched her sleep, I told myself I would take care of Briella. I pulled her against me, stroking her hair rhythmically as she dozed peacefully.

I gazed out the window across from our bed, watching the trees speed past us. The moon had to be full or at least very close to being so. The leaves of the trees were glowing softly beneath the moonlight.

I watched as the leaves changed color subtly at first from a dark green to a more vivid one. Even during the night, they were vibrant and colorful. Quickly, the colors of the leaves became more exotic, with oranges and blues mixed in with the greens.

We were getting close.

I sat up, Briella still in my arms. She didn’t even stir, probably exhausted from all the excitement surrounding the wedding. But I didn’t want her to miss our arrival at our first destination.

I pulled Briella up so that she was sitting up. I shook her gently, pressing my lips to her ear. “Wake up, Briella. We’re almost there.”

Briella stirred in my arms after a bit more rousing, blinking a few times before focusing her large green eyes on me. “Almost where?” she wondered aloud.

I could feel the wide grin on my face. “The Whispering Woods.”
