Sold as the Alpha King's Breeder-Chapter 1651 - 93 : Facing the Enemy
*Briella*
My muscles coiled like a spring, my heart slamming against my ribs as the air in front of us shimmered, contorting into the silhouette of Tian. "Tian," I breathed, unsheathing my blade and standing ready, green eyes narrowed in focus.
For a moment, I was frozen in fear. The only sound was our breaths echoing off the stone walls.
"Tian," I repeated. My voice was stronger this time as I took a step forward.
His form wavered like a mirage in the desert, but I refused to let doubt cloud my mind and let him infiltrate my senses and turn me into another of his mindless drones. His reign of terror ended now.
I lunged and swung with everything I had, but my sword cut through nothing but cold air. Tian’s figure, like a ghostly apparition, flickered with each strike. Not a single blow landed. It was as if he was made of mist.
We all attacked, surrounding Tian and trying to get at him from every angle. He seemed to effortlessly evade our strikes, his body moving with a fluid grace that left us all in awe.
"Stay focused!" I shouted. "He’s just one man! We can take him down!"
Despite our numbers, it was clear that Tian held the upper hand. He seemed almost amused by our feeble attempts to defeat him. I could feel frustration building within me, but I pushed it aside and focused on the fight.
Nothing we did seemed to damage him at all. I wondered how that was possible. I watched as his form shimmered again. This time, it gave me pause. Maybe it wasn’t a trick of the light or an attempt to take my mind. Maybe...
"Wait!" Kryzen’s voice cut through the confusion, his hand shooting out to stop a fellow warrior mid-swing. "He’s not really here."
A laugh, low and mocking, bounced eerily off the rock walls around us. "Well done," Tian’s disembodied voice praised with a sneer.
"Where are you, coward?" Kryzen bellowed, his gray eyes scanning the cavern for any sign of our true adversary. His broad shoulders tensed, and his black hair seemed to absorb the dim light, casting shadows across his stern face.
"Show yourself!" I added, gripping the hilt of my blade tighter, ready for a fight that seemed impossible to wage.
The laughter faded, leaving behind only the hollow echo and the chill of unseen eyes watching us.
The silence clawed at my senses, oppressive and thick. I could feel Kryzen’s presence beside me, a solid force of defiance against the unsettling quiet that had fallen over us.
"Such manners," Tian’s voice slithered through the cavern, oozing malice from every unseen corner. "Barging in without so much as a knock. Did your parents teach you nothing about courtesy, Briella Black?"
I shuddered, his words wrapping around us like serpents, cold and menacing. The darkness seemed to deepen with his tone, an audible shadow that threatened to suffocate us. My breath caught in my throat. For a moment, I couldn’t speak or move. I was ensnared in his verbal trap.
"Come now, don’t be shy. Step forward, Briella." There was a deceptive softness to his command, a velvet threat. "Come to me alone, and we can make all this unpleasantness disappear. Just think of it—no more violence, no more fear."
My heart skipped a beat and then hammered with renewed intensity. Alone? The very thought sent a jolt of ice through my veins. But somewhere beneath the surface, a spark of defiance flickered to life. Could it be possible to end this without further bloodshed?
"Alone." The word was barely a whisper, torn from my lips by a mix of shock and a desperate hope that flickered dimly in the dark.
Before I could even process the gravity of Tian’s words, Kryzen’s solid frame eclipsed my view. "Never," he stated firmly, his voice a bastion against Tian’s dark temptations.
I squared my shoulders, the defiant spark within me flaring to life. "We should consider it," I insisted, meeting Kryzen’s steely gaze. "I can handle myself."
"Absolutely not." His jaw clenched, muscles ticking with barely contained rage. "It’s a trap, Briella. We can’t trust him."
My heart churned with conflict, but I knew he spoke sense. Yet the sliver of hope that we could end this bloodshed without further loss was hard to dismiss. "Even if I go alone, there’s no promise he’ll cease this madness."
"Exactly," Kryzen growled, his protective stance unwavering.
Tian’s laughter, hollow and chilling, echoed once more around us. "Have it your way. I do enjoy a bit of a struggle." Suddenly, the presence that had filled the cavern vanished as if swept away by an invisible wind.
Kryzen straightened, his posture radiating resolve. "We stick to the plan. Let’s head for the underground city. Keep your eyes sharp for the black buildings."
"Understood," I replied, stealing myself for what lay ahead. The weight of Kryzen’s trust in me was both a shield and a sword. I wouldn’t let it down.
We had barely set foot onto the cobbled streets of the underground city, with towering black buildings casting long and ominous shadows, when they emerged. A silent horde clad in dark robes, their eyes glowing with an unnatural red luminescence, blocked our path. The possessed were souls twisted by Tian’s malevolent magic.
"Kryzen," I hissed, unsheathing my dagger. The metal sang as it left its scabbard, a sound that used to bring me comfort. Now it was a prelude to chaos.
"Stay close," Kryzen ordered, drawing his own blade with a swift, practiced motion. His gray eyes flickered with determination, his body poised for battle.
They came at us like a tide of darkness, relentless and unyielding. Sword clashed against sword, the ring of steel on steel punctuating the air. I fought back-to-back with Kryzen, our movements synchronized through countless hours of shared combat training. We were a whirlwind of destruction, yet for every foe we felled, two more seemed to take its place.
"Roy!" Kryzen bellowed over the din of battle, never taking his eyes off the relentless advance of our enemies. "Cover us!"
Roy, with his soft features set in a hard line of resolve, nodded and shouted orders to the soldiers flanking him. They moved as one, their blue and silver armor glinting under the eerie light that filtered from above.
"Take my hand," Kryzen said, reaching out to me without looking back. Our fingers interlocked, and he pulled me behind him as Roy and the others formed a protective barrier with their shields and bodies.
"Stay with me, Briella," Kryzen spoke firmly, guiding me through the narrow alleys that snaked between the sinister architecture of the city. His grip was firm, reassuring amidst the bedlam. I could feel his pulse against my skin, strong and steady, even as the sounds of fighting grew fainter behind us.
"Where are we going?" I panted, struggling to keep pace with his longer strides.
"To the temple," he replied tersely. "We end this tonight."
We dodged around corners and leaped over debris, the labyrinthine city becoming a blur of motion. The farther we ran, the quieter it became until only our heavy breaths and the pounding of our boots against stone filled the silence.
"Kryzen," I started, my voice tight with the gravity of what we were about to face. But he cut me off with a shake of his head.
"Not now, Briella. Save your strength. We’ll need it."
His words settled heavily within me, a mix of dread and determination. This was it. It was the moment that would define not just our fate but also the fate of the entire Celestial Valley.
The temple loomed before us, its towering spires disappearing into the night sky. My heart thrummed against my ribcage as we stood at the threshold, the eerie silence of the abandoned city weighing heavily in the air. Kryzen’s grip on my hand tightened, a silent promise that he wouldn’t let go.
"Ready?" he whispered, his gray eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of movement.
I nodded, trying to steady my breath. "Let’s do this."
"We go up," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
With each step, the voice grew louder, words wrapping around us like a tangible force. I could feel Kryzen’s presence behind me, a solid reassurance that I wasn’t alone in this.
"Brace yourself, Briella," he said softly as we climbed. "Whatever happens, remember I’m right here with you."
I didn’t dare respond, focusing on the ascent, my hands grazing the cold stone wall for balance. The tower seemed endless, a dark path winding toward an uncertain end. But Kryzen’s words echoed in my mind, a mantra to quell the rising panic. He was with me. Together, we would face whatever awaited us at the top.
The staircase wound upward, each step a silent testament to the gravity of our ascent. My breaths came in short, determined bursts, my legs moving mechanically as I climbed ever higher into the belly of the tower. The stone was cool and slightly damp under my palms, the only real thing in a world that felt increasingly like a nightmare.
"Nearly there," Kryzen murmured from behind me, his voice a low hum in the shadowed air. His presence was a heat at my back, a promise that I wasn’t facing this alone.
"Whatever happens," I said, my voice steadier than I felt, "we end it today."
"Agreed," he replied. “We can do this, Briella. We can do this. We have the power, the strength, the love of our people, and each other. Tian only has his darkness.”
“I love you, Kryzen Stormfall.”
“And, I love you, Briella Black. But now isn’t the time for goodbyes. We’re walking out of this together or not at all.”
Finally, the staircase ended, giving way to a large, dark room. The air was thick with a strange energy, and my skin prickled with the force of it. It was quiet, too quiet, the kind of silence that screamed danger.
We pushed open the heavy doors, the groan of ancient hinges echoing ominously through the vast chamber. Inside, the air was cool and still, the only light emanating from flickering torches mounted along the stone walls. But Tian was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is he?" I murmured, feeling a twinge of unease creep up my spine.
"Shh," Kryzen cautioned, his ears twitching slightly as if picking up a sound I couldn’t hear.
Then it sounded. A voice, sinister and chilling, drifted down from the heights of the tower. "Seeking me so eagerly? You should know by now I’m never far."
I felt a shiver dance across my skin. Kryzen’s hand squeezed mine once more before releasing it. He gestured toward the narrow staircase spiraling upward into darkness.
From the shadows, a figure emerged. Tian stood before us, his eyes glinting with malice and triumph. He was the darkness incarnate, a blemish upon the world we had sworn to protect.
