Chapter 143: I’ll Handle This One

"Should I end the simulation, Radiant Boar?" One of the technicians asked as he watched flames engulf Flint’s entire body.

Although this was just a simulation and there was no danger of death, the pain was still real and by now that student must’ve passed out from the pain of getting burnt.

Garron Boar looked towards the screen that showed the third team’s progress and it was going a lot more horribly than he thought would be.

The third year kid was completely relaxed on a folding chair, unbothered by the fact that his teammate had been covered in flames.

He was about to end their simulation but he paused, if the first year kid had truly been engulfed by the flames, then the reports from his watch should’ve shown that he was currently in intense pain.

But surprisingly, besides a few pain feedback, his vitals seemed completely fine, so Radiant Boar shook his head and muttered, "no, let the test continue."

The technicians didn’t question as they turned back to the screen, hoping that the kid was fine.

He should be right? After all, there was no way one would die from a simulation....well, except the one from the entrance test, but that was just because of outside influence.

***

Calewin hadn’t moved an inch, even when the ground rumbled from the attack and the golems slowly approached him.

The ’mage’ golem started charging another fireball, but just before it could launch it, its knees bent and the attack was completely off target.

Calewin remained asleep even when the heat of the fire ball washed over him before crashing into a wall behind him.

"That was fucking close," Flint, who was now standing on the shoulders of the brawler golem, said, "I thought I was going to die."

His combat suit looked completely unscathed and save for the couple of bruises on his face, he seemed mostly fine.

This was the fastest he had teleported and even he was surprised at the speed. One moment, the fireball was milliseconds from hitting him, and the next he was wrapped in a golden light which transported him behind the golems.

Which he took advantage of and attack the mage one.

The brawler golem swung its hand towards its shoulder, aiming to turn this insect into paste.

He pushed off the golem’s shoulder, teleporting just as its hand slammed on its shoulder with enough force to create a shockwave.

BANG—!

The impact let out a loud sound which showed exactly how heavy that attack was.

If Flint hadn’t teleported quickly enough, then he would’ve most likely been crushed. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

He reappeared several meters away, as he spun his staff before finally resting it on his shoulder.

"Alright," he said calmly, "let’s try this again."

The mage started charging another fireball before launching it at the target.

But Flint just teleported away and the fire ball detonated harmlessly in the distance as Flint reappeared directly in front of the mage golem’s face.

To the golem, it must have looked like an insect suddenly appearing before its eyes.

He then swung his stafd, causing it to slam into the golem’s head and with the help of his SE.

BOOM!

The mage’s head snapped back unnaturally, and it seemed as if it could crumble at any second.

Unfortunately, the golem started healing, but before it could fully recover, Flint teleported again, reappearing above it.

"Stay down."

He drove the staff straight into the top of its rocky head.

CRACK—!

The force traveled straight through the golem’s body and fractures that started from the to of its head spread all the was down.

The mage staggered and its balance was quickly lost, but before Flint could finish it, the brawler golem arrived.

Its massive fist came down like a falling meteor and Flint vanished just before the attack could reach him, causing the golems fist to hit empty air, though a compressed shockwave was sent outwards.

It then lifted its massive, rocky legs before slamming it towards the area where Flint reappeared.

Again, he managed to teleport away just before the attack but him.

The impact shattered the ground they were standing on, causing lava to start rising higher and higher as chunks of stone were launched into the air.

Flint reappeared on a floating fragment of rock, landing lightly as his eyes tracked the brawler’s movements.

"So that’s how you want to play it."

The brawler charged towards him, every step shaking the entire environment around them.

It was a wonder how Calewin still remained asleep through all that commotion, but Flint didn’t have time to think of that now.

He reappeared at the golem’s knee and he launched an attack with his staff, towards the golem.

BOOM!

The joint cracked, forcing the massive golem to stumble, but Flint wasn’t done yet. He teleported again, this time to the other knee, and he struck again.

CRACK!

The brawler roared as its massive body lost balance, crashing forward and slamming into the ground causing it to tremble.

Flint appeared above its chest, his staff was glowing brightly and it seemed to be growing larger by the second.

"Let’s end this, shall we?"

He drove the staff straight down, directly at the creature’s core and the next second,

BOOOOOOM!

The brawler’s core shattered in a blinding burst of light, its massive body freezing before collapsing into rubble piece by piece.

Flint landed on the ground, before he let out an exhausted breath, and turned towards the mage golem that was still trying to regain its balance.

"One more to go," He muttered to himself as he started walking towards the golem.

The mage golem tried to retreat, as even it knew that it couldn’t fight this insect in a close range.

Its body was filled with cracks, thanks to Flint and even though the golem’s regeneration had kicked in, it would take a couple of seconds before it completely healed.

But Flint wasn’t about to wait for it to recover, instead, he teleported towards the golem’s face, already swinging his staff.

The impact was loud, and it resounded around them, but Flint was too much in the zone to notice the sounds around him.

The golem’s face dented again and Flint disappeared again, reappearing towards the golem’s knees and slamming his staff into them.

The mage golem immediately lost its balance and that was exactly what Flint was aiming for.

As he has done with the brawler golem, he appeared on the golem’s chest, just a bit below where the core was located.

Flint lifted his staff high and it was glowing even brighter than before.

He slammed the staff directly at the core and it immediately shattered like glass.

Light erupted outward forcing Flint to cover his eyes as molten fragments were flung in every direction.

The massive golem froze mid-motion, its regeneration stopping, before its entire body collapsed inward.

When the light faded, nothing remained of the mage golem except a smoldering crater.

Silence followed.

Flint stood at the center of it all with his chest rising and falling as he planted his staff into the ground to steady himself.

"...Done," he muttered before turning towards Calewin and frowned at the fact that he was still asleep, while Flint was struggling against those two.

With a sigh, Flint looked up at the timer.

[Time remaining: 00:01:59]

He had been fighting for the majority of the time, and now that it was almost up, he could rest right?

Besides, there didn’t seem to be any golem coming out of the lava, so he should be fine.

As if in response to his word, the lava suddenly started bubbling and the ground also started tremble.

"I just had to go and jinx it didn’t I?" Flint muttered as he clicked his tongue.

He wasn’t sure he could handle a fight of the same scale as previously since his SE was pretty low right now, and his arms were basically going numb.

Flint turned towards Calewin who seemed to have no intention of helping, which meant that this was all up to him, again.

"Screw you," Flint muttered before standing back up and waiting for whatever was going to come out of that lava.

The lava rose higher than before and it started taking the shape of an even larger golem and the moment it cooled down, an aura that seemed to demand Flint kneeled, radiated from the creature.

It was clearly that Flint was completely outmatched, especially given his current condition, but he still pointed his staff at the golem and muttered.

"Come at me?"

His words came out in a questioning tone because one moment, his staff was pointed at the golem, and the next, he was on Calewin’s folding chair.

Flint sat up straight and noticed that Calewin was now where he previously stood with both hands in his pocket as he looked at the golem.

"I’ll handle this one."
