The Strongest Curse Master-Chapter 466: Ava Take’s Control
"She is just saying that so I won’t scold her for her actions earlier. Instead, beg her to continue the agent training program," Matthews said, stopping Layla, who wanted to reason with and persuade Ava from quitting the training program.
Even though she wasn’t always present for her family because of the nature of her job, Matthews swore that she knew her daughter the best. Her little devil was good at stirring up trouble and playing the victim or making it everybody else’s fault but hers. Also, she had the loyalty of a canine — that was only if you managed to charm her.
"You got everything figured out, don’t you mom?" Ava remarked, glaring at her mother. She wanted to say a lot more, but held back. Ava did not want to belittle her mother and her career choices in front of a bunch of strangers. Instead, she stuck to that she truly wanted say, "Mom, I don’t want to waste my time building a life that could easily vanish just because some jerk took offense at the way I talked or looked at them. I want to build a life that’s mine and mine alone. It will prosper with my hard work, and if it fails, it will fail because of my mistakes and not because of someone’s whims.
Mom, I’m sorry that I let you down again. I truly am, but this is my life. I have an image of how it should be. I still don’t have any idea of how I am going to make it a reality. However, I know that following your footsteps is not it. Also, I need to start somewhere, so I’m moving out."
"Wait, you’re being serious," Matthews uttered in disbelief as the realization finally hit her, that this time her daughter wasn’t being crafty to avoid accountability for her actions, but actually meant what she said and planned to follow through.
Shaking her head at her mother, Ava turned to go find the person for whom she had spent a lot of thought and effort using most of her evening getting dolled up. However, she stopped in her tracks listening to her mother say, "Let us discuss it after we return home."
"No, there is nothing to discuss. I wasn’t asking for your permission. I was just informing you of my decision," Ava stated calmly.
She loved her parents, but she was also sick of them. She honestly didn’t understand how their marriage lasted so long and still managed to continue. Her father could do so much better than her mother. Not that her mother was ugly, it’s just she wasn’t always available when they needed her. She believed her father was a saint for being with her mother for so long.
Knowing her mother wasn’t going to let go without having the last word, Ava, eyeing the crowd, reminded her, "Mom, let us be civil and mindful of our company."
With that, Ava turned and headed toward the Dee3’s villa, leaving her tongue-tied mother behind.
"Excuse me, young lady—" Just then an old man approached Ava planning to talk to her, but was immediately interrupted by her coarse words, "Buzz off, old creep."
Annoyed, Ava transformed into a stream of light and dashed into Dee3’s house, bypassing all the agents blocking the entry. She was the freaking light. There was nothing that could stop her and no place that she cannot reach.
"I’m sorry, Sir Ulysses. I have failed to raise my daughter properly." Snapping out of her thoughts, Matthews hurried over to apologize to old gentleman for her daughter’s actions and words.
Sir Ulysses was one of the oldest void-tier curse masters in the country. Though his name wasn’t written or read along with our founding fathers, no one could deny he was one of the pillars our country was built on.
Out of all his achievements and his incredible prowess, Sir Ulysses was known for his generosity and love for nurturing the younger generation. Almost a quarter century ago, he took voluntary retirement, giving up all his authority in governing the country, claiming it was time for the next generation to make their mistakes.
The last time he showed up was when a Curseling from the depths of the Void had broken the thin fabric of space separating our reality and the Void, managing to invade our reality and wreak havoc in it. That day, he single-handedly achieved what a dozen void-tiers had failed to achieve for hours.
For him to show up now was almost a declaration from him to the government that their attitude toward Dee3 was wrong. Also, she was being protected by him. It was also his presence that was to be partially blamed for why the crowd of uninvited guests at Mr. Birdie’s funeral was growing and showed no sign of stopping.
"No, you have raised a fantastic young lady. It is a pity that I didn’t get a chance to get to know her. Regardless of what she ends up doing, she will achieve great things. You should be proud of her," Sir Ulysses spoke very highly of Ava, even surprising her mother. With his prowess, he saw everything that transpired between Agent Kidd and Ava. One can’t say he was spying as with his strength, it would be surprising if he didn’t see or hear what was going on around him. When you spot a dog poop in the park, you don’t say you went searching for dog poop, you just happen to spot one.
"I don’t know, Sir Ulysses. All she has on her mind is boys," Matthews joked, but she was seriously worried some boy Ava foolishly trusted would sell her without her realizing. Especially Ace, he looked the type. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Hahaha, who didn’t at that age? At least she has the courage to be honest about it and the strength to pursue it. Now, I really want to pick her brain," Sir Ulysses laughed freely, listening to Matthews. The more he learned about Ava, the more he liked her. When he was her age, he had a crush on the beautiful nun of his orphanage. He still regrets not confessing his feelings for her before he left the orphanage. Back then, if only he had tenth of Ava’s courage...
"Then allow me to invite you to my in-laws’ estate after the funeral. They make the best farmmade gouda," Matthews invited. She wasn’t one to miss an opportunity to connect with a living legend. Just this conversation with him will do wonders for her career.
"I just might take you up on that offer," Sir Ulysses remarked without confirming anything. Matthews nodded respectfully, knowing not to force it. It could just as easily backfire instead.
