Slime Evolution-Chapter 66 - Skipping Class
Aeliana explained to them where to find the Shadow Serpents, which she said were only Level 2 to Level 4 monsters, but because they hid in very dirty and cramped places, hunters usually avoided this target.
Lohan and Lisa were much smaller than hunters, so it would probably be easier for them to hunt these snakes.
With a clear goal in mind, Lohan and Lisa said goodbye to Aeliana and set off in the direction she had indicated.
"So, what do you think about that?" Lohan asked curiously, wanting to know Lisa’s point of view on the situation.
For him, digesting monsters or plants didn’t make much difference in his strength growth. In fact, he felt that killing monsters at that moment was slightly superior, since he could level up and use the increased stats to increase his base gains and then use the evolutions to develop even further.
Lisa, who was carrying Lohan, replied through the mental link with a thoughtful voice. "To me, this seems like a great opportunity. If we can create a harmonious relationship with the elves, when we decide to create our guild, we will have a stable source of income, even with the restrictions that our races bring."
Lohan agreed with her; so far, there seemed to be no downside to befriending the elves.
While ordinary players mostly appeared in human villages, they had to deal with what was available, and from the way things were developing, it seemed that things were going well.
"You accepted her invitation for tomorrow, are you thinking of skipping work to play?" Lisa asked in her usual cold voice, but there was a hint of curiosity in the background.
With her status, skipping college would not cause her any problems, but from what Lohan had shown so far, as someone from the Lower Zone, skipping work could cause a lot of problems.
Lohan thought for a moment. It was something he had briefly considered, but considering the possibility it entailed, both of getting a tour of Thalendor and possibly finding a source of income to pay off his debt, he knew he had to do it.
Going to college every day wouldn’t change his situation at all. In a few weeks, the bank would collect the money, and he wouldn’t be able to pay, being sent to prison or worse, having to go mining on some desolate planet to pay off the debt.
"I’ll figure something out... I haven’t missed a single day in the last year, I’ll just say I woke up feeling sick and couldn’t catch the bus to get there tomorrow," he said after a sigh.
Lisa felt a little bad for him.
Halon was the first person she had really interacted with from the Lower Zone. Since childhood, her only interactions had been with other people from the Upper Zone, so she didn’t quite know how to deal with this.
’Could I offer him a job at one of Vance’s subsidiaries on his planet? If he worked for the family business, when he needed time off like this, I could easily arrange it... but if I suddenly got a job for a citizen of the Lower Zone of some planet, the family would notice and instead of helping, I could get him into even more trouble...’ She thought, frustrated.
But then she had an idea.
Thinking about how good this idea was, Lisa even stopped running and turned her head to face the Slime with a small confident smile on her fox-like face, breaking for a few moments the coldness she normally exuded.
"Halon, I have direct influence in some interplanetary hospitals, I can get you a three-day medical certificate that will cover your shift from Thursday to Saturday. Since work is prohibited on Sundays by federal jurisdiction, you will have four days of total isolation to focus on Elysium. With this opportunity, I will also do the same and stay home on those days."
Upon hearing this, Lohan’s membrane vibrated with excitement. "That’s perfect! But wouldn’t it be too much trouble for you to get something like that for me? Wouldn’t that get you in trouble with your connections at those hospitals?"
Hearing the concern in his tone, Lisa was a little confused, until she remembered that she was talking to someone who had no idea who she was and who genuinely worried that something could affect her like that.
Normally, people didn’t worry about her for things like that, because they already knew that with her identity, it was unlikely that anything could affect her, but feeling that concern... wasn’t bad.
"Don’t worry about it, just tell me if this medical certificate will be necessary," she asked, looking at him seriously.
Lohan didn’t think twice. "Yes, definitely, but how will you send it to me?" he asked, confused.
"Before we disconnect today, tell me your Syn Code and I’ll send it to you by message," she said in a calm voice.
Lohan gave her a thumbs up and didn’t refuse. Everyone in the human federation had an account on Syn, the largest interplanetary social network. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Since the old Lohan had no friends, his Syn was practically deserted, so he never cared much about it, but even without using it, the old Lohan had memorized his Syn Code, so it wouldn’t be difficult to pass it on to Lisa.
With that decided, Lisa sped up toward the Shadow Serpents’ nest.
The place was a little far from where they were, requiring Lisa to run for 40 minutes at the maximum speed of a Level 04 Spirit Fox to get there.
When they arrived, Lohan noticed that the scene ahead looked like an open wound in the forest.
The Shadow Serpents’ nest was in a narrow crevice between damp rock walls, where sunlight disappeared before touching the ground.
It was a suffocating place, covered in black mud that smelled of iron and decay, with passages so narrow that only the flexible, small bodies of monsters like them could navigate with ease.
The silence there was heavy, broken only by the occasional sound of something slimy slithering against the rocks in the depths of the darkness.
But neither of them felt fear, only excitement for the experience they would receive from killing these snakes, seeing these monsters as big money signs.
"Ready?" Lisa asked Slime, still attached to her back.
"As ever." Halon replied confidently.
