"Yeah...sorry, I rushed here as fast as I could, but looks like it’s already over," I remarked apologetically, as I gently stroked her head.

"Nah...it’s okay. You don’t need to apologize...none of us were expecting any extra backup, after all. That Monster was crazy strong, though, I had to hedge my bets on one final shot, it was literally all or nothing. Speaking of which, did you see it?" She asked me with a smile.

"I got to this spot right as you erupted into flames, and then, in the blink of an eye, the Monster was dead and the ground was melted. I didn’t even see you move, there was a bright, fiery flash, and the next thing I knew, it was over. I take it that’s the thing you’ve been working on in secret?" I responded, as I sat on the ground and set her on my lap, resting her head against my chest.

"Mhm, yeah...I call it Blaze Ignition: Supernova. I don’t know exactly how much it boosts my power by, but I know it’s a lot. I’m not even close to having mastered it yet, though, it’s really hard to activate.

It’s easier to activate when I’m exhausted for some reason, and even then I had maybe a fifty-fifty shot of pulling it off. And it drains a ton of Mana, plus the two seconds it lasted for right now is the longest that I’ve been able to maintain it for so far," She explained with a weary sigh.

"Well, I managed to get a look at your stats with Appraisal when you activated it, do you wanna kn-...?"

"Yes! Tell me, how powerful did I get?!" She exclaimed eagerly.

"Here, see for yourself," I smiled, bringing up the Appraisal screen:

"Woah, not too bad. Still lower than your full power, but it’s pretty awesome that I crossed a Power Level of five million...and I can get it and my stats even higher if I combine it with Descent," She remarked with a gleam in her eyes.

"Yeah, think that’ll put you a good bit over six million, which makes you the strongest in the world," I grinned, poking her cheek as she stifled a yawn.

"Yup, the strongest for all of two seconds," She responded with a wry smile.

"Probably a fair bit longer once you master it," I replied encouragingly.

"Mhm, I’ll have to keep working at it. I mean, I’ll need to if more Monsters on this level show up," She mused warily.

"Yeah, at least that’s two down...wonder how Jaden’s group is doing? Oh, what happened to Jin and Aarav?"

"Jin...was killed. And Aarav is out cold somewhere, he got blasted with lightning, he should be alive, though," She informed me.

"I see...Jin’s dead, huh? He was a good guy, I’m sorry to hear that. Let’s go find Aarav and go to the Union, we should get him healed, and you definitely need some rest. I hope the others are doing okay against the last Monster. I did send Ira and Acedia to back them up, but it’ll still be a while before they get there..."

What...is this?

As I thrust my right arm forward, driving my talons towards the human’s head, he tilted his head across, my talons grazing his cheek before I let out a sharp gasp as he struck my stomach with a powerful burst of force, sending me hurtling back through the air.

I unleashed a burst of wind behind myself to bring myself to a halt, my gaze darting across as I tried to catch sight of him, before stiffening and spinning around as I sensed him behind me.

He drove his right hand towards the middle of my torso, as I simultaneously whipped my talons across at his head.

His hand pierced through the left side of my torso, narrowly missing my Core as I twisted my body across. He then tilted his head back, my talons barely nicking his forehead before a powerful shockwave erupted from him, pushing me several meters back through the air.

I fired out a powerful blast of wind as a slashing wave of force came shooting towards me, my eyes widening as a shallow cut appeared across my chest, my wind failing to fully cancel out his attack.

I tensed I sensed him behind me again, but this time, he attacked before I could react, immense force colliding against my back and blasting me forward through the air.

Suddenly, I came to an abrupt halt as I felt a powerful pulling force exerted on my body. Twinges of pain erupted across my body from the whiplash, before I quickly turned my gaze up as I sensed him above me, swinging his arms down and firing out a shredding blast of force.

I crossed my arms above myself as fast as I could, my forearms getting torn to shreds as I got sent hurtling down towards the ground, letting out a sharp gasp as my back slammed onto the ground with a jarring impact, my vision blurring as thick puffs of dust burst out around me.

Wh-What...what is this?

How is he faster than I am? Has he gotten more powerful? No, that’s not it...

I quickly rolled out of the way and scrambled back onto my feet as he swooped down towards me with immense speed, a deafening crash ringing out as his feet slammed onto the ground with a devastating impact.

I got blown of my feet and launched back through the air as the shockwave hit me, grimacing and spreading out my wings powerfully to bring myself to a halt. I then froze as I lifted my head, meeting his gaze from inches away.

He had a wide, unsettling grin on his face, blood streaming down the corners of his mouth, before he drove his right arm towards the middle of my body, the skin around the middle of his forearm tearing apart.

I lowered my left arm as fast as I could, a sharp crunch ringing out as his fist slammed onto my arm and shattered the bones, sending me hurtling back through the air, before I skidded across the ground and crashed onto a large pile of rubble, coughing out blood as my back throbbed sharply with pain...
