Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon-Chapter 816 - 813: Strange City
Chapter 816: 813: Strange City
After telling Pamela about the divine presence he could sense in both the temple and the palace, Pamela made the decision to be more careful and attentive about the palace and the temple.
However, she was inwardly shocked and surprised by Corey’s perception.
Although she had seen Corey’s stats and knew that he was not a human but a very strange race called Demi-Paragons, and that his talent was a terrifying one- Omniscience, she believed that the difference between her and Corey was not so massive.
She had no idea what Corey’s limits were and she also had no idea what the true extent of his abilities were, but once again, she felt that compared to hers, the difference was not massive.
Especially when it came to perception.
In fact, for perception, she felt that she should be ahead of Corey in that aspect because of her relationship with runes.
The runes could speak to her, and if there was such a massive, divine presence in Serithal, she felt that runes should have told her.
And if the runes didn’t tell her, she felt that the runes would have responded in a strange way when she tried to inspect the temple.
But they didn’t, and this made her confused and also wary.
Because she knew that Corey was not normal, just like her, she knew that she could not just take Corey’s words for granted.
She had to take it seriously, and she also had to take Corey seriously since he could sense something she could not.
After having all these thoughts, Pamela also decided to ask Corey what his plans were, and why he was in the Hunters Association.
To her surprise, Corey told her that he was joining the association merely for a skill.
When she heard what the skill was, she told him that she was skeptical that the association had such a skill.
She also told him that a face changing skill was usually an item, but such items were usually very rare and desired by a lot of people since it could save a life if used properly.
When Corey heard her words, he told her that he knew about the extreme rarity of such a skill, but the problem with an item with a face changing skill was that a lot of Mystic Beings would most like be able to see through the item’s effect.
He also asked her how she was able to change her appearance and also bodily structure.
But she told him that this was a unique ability of her race, and there was no way he could use the skill.
She also asked him what his plans were for the Kingdom of Miracles, and if he planned on helping New Earth to get rid of the invaders.
However, to her surprise and annoyance, Corey told her that he had no concrete plans yet, and that he still wanted to lay low in the Kingdom to avoid any attention... For now at least.
He also told him that he planned on taking the mission that was given to him by the Hunters Association since he was curious about the system trial below.
After discussing about several unimportant things and having a little argument, they ended their conversation.
Pamela tore a human-sized hole in space and walked through it while flashing her middle finger at Corey.
Meanwhile, Corey merely smiled and using his Void Force, he vanished without leaving a trace behind.
The room went silent.
----
After leaving the Miracle Hunters Association, Corey decided to use his free time to explore the capital of the kingdom.
Although he had seen every part of Serithal through his Eyes of Omniscience, it was a different experience observing several parts of the capital while walking, and without looking at it from above.
Now, with no real destination, he let his feet lead him.
The morning sun hung lazily above, bathing the city in a soft golden hue. The cobbled streets glistened faintly, still damp from the dawn mist. The scent of warm bread, herbs, smoke, and a faint metallic tang filled the air.
Everywhere he looked, life pulsed.
A merchant shouted loudly as he adjusted the price tags on his display table, calling out to passersby to come and try his ’Spirit-Forged Steel Daggers.’
A pair of daggers he claimed he got from a graveyard and was filled with spiritual energy.
Corey raised a brow as he passed by.
The dagger was nothing close to his acclaimed ’spirit-forged’. There was nothing close to spiritual energy in the daggers, just a polished steel with a trace of mana.
A scam. But a convincing one.
A few stalls away, a woman dressed in simple robes held up a bowl filled with greenish blue herbs.
She called it ’Mistleaf.’
Claimed it could clear one’s mind and even allow one’s mental capabilities to increase twofold.
’Doesn’t even come close to Dream Lotus... but it might work on someone with weak spirit resistance.’
Corey’s eyes swept across the market.
It was alive.
Colorful fabrics waved under open canopies, stalls cluttered with ’potions’ and charms, some obviously fake, others containing weak but real effects.
Children ran past him, laughing while holding wooden swords, while a man in bulky leather armor adjusted the straps of a crate tied to a horse-drawn cart.
Every few feet, he saw street lamps powered by small mana batteries embedded into their bases. The energy was faint, unstable. But it was enough to light the streets when the sun disappeared.
’Not too magical. Not too mechanical I guess?’
Corey stopped near a wide stone bridge that connected the outer district to one of Serithal’s mid-tier rings.
From here, he could see the layering of the city more clearly.
Low districts. Then commercial rings. Then the noble quarters, hidden behind tall white walls, guarded by men in plated armor reinforced with simple enhancement formations carved into the inside of their breastplates.
When he saw the formations, he knew that they were crude and rushed, and he had more than a thousand ways he could improve the formations.
’Well, those guards are not elites. They’re better than the officers patrolling the city, but they’re still not comparable to the personal guards of some nobles and the palace guards.’
He continued walking, passing a school where children sat cross-legged on rune-inscribed mats.
A tall, grey-haired man stood before them, chanting softly as he raised his hand.
Light gathered above his palm, but it was nothing more than a simple illumination spell.
However, the children clapped with immense awe in their eyes.
Corey stared for a moment, then walked away.
He passed a blacksmith’s shop where smoke rose from chimneys, and the rhythmic pounding of hammer on steel rang out like a heartbeat.
Some smiths still used traditional bellows, while others had converted to mana-powered forges with basic temperature control formations.
A blend of past and present.
Progress and tradition, walking side by side.
He eventually found himself in a quieter part of the city, away from the crowd, standing in front of a half-burnt building with ash still clinging to its edges.
A notice had been pinned to the charred wall with the royal seal.
[DUNGEON OUTBREAK-CLEARED. RESTORATION PENDING.]
’It doesn’t look like a lot of damage happened in this place. Either the monsters or beasts were weak, or Serithal as a whole was able to react to the dungeon outbreak without losing a lot of lives and properties.’
Corey lowered his gaze, then continued walking.
The sky began to darken slightly, and Corey looked up.
’Evening is coming.’ Corey thought.
Shadows stretched longer across the cobblestone paths, and lanterns began to flicker to life, some with flames, others powered by mana bulbs.
And as he walked through the city, he couldn’t help but murmur softly under his breath.
"What a strange city."
