Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 141: Improvements
Chapter 141: Improvements
Roman’s integration into the party happened faster than anyone expected. Within a few days, he had moved his belongings into the shared quarters and fallen into their daily hunting routine. Each morning, he would wake before dawn, prepare his equipment, and join the others for their journey into the woods.
"He’s getting better," Jax said to Ning as he began butchering at the dead monkey.
"He’s in tune with our timing now," Ning said.
Roman grinned, wiping sweat from his brow. Melayne and Lucille were giving him similar praises in the back.
"Thanks. I’m still figuring out how to keep up with you all though."
It was true. Roman was charismatic and skilled, but surrounded by four individuals who could each be categorized as monsters in their own right, he often felt lost. Jax, Ning, and Melayne were close-combat monsters, and Lucille... she was an entirely different thing that he couldn’t even begin to understand.
But Roman never gave up. He pushed himself harder each day, studying their movements, learning their patterns, and finding ways to contribute meaningfully to their hunts. And that made him progress well too.
That was good, since the deadline for the registration was right around the corner.
The breakthrough came when their collective efforts started paying off in a different way. One by one, the party members began reaching the 1st Emerald Stage.
Jax was the first to achieve it. He felt the familiar surge of power as his Sea of Navi transformed, the energy flowing through him like liquid emerald. However, unlike the others, reaching a new stage gave him nothing new. His restriction as a Single Spell Sorcerer meant he could only ever have one spell, regardless of his advancement.
He did get strong physically now even without counting on his Navi.
Everyone became excited as they too were right around the corner of breaking through.
Lucille reached the 1st Emerald Stage two days later. The advancement brought her two new spells, but as she examined them, her face grew thoughtful.
One of those spells was a spell to create momentary barriers, which was more or less useless given its requirement for timing, but the other one was an analysis spell that was rather powerful.
She explained the spells. "I’m getting rid of the barrier spell."
"Huh? What’s the hurry?" Roman asked. "Is it for progression? You can remove it after the trial is done."
Lucille shook her head.
"With my timing restriction, I can’t control when it activates. It might appear when I need to move, or worse, it might block one of your attacks," she explained. "And worst of all, I cannot use another spell until one of my spells activates. So should I need to use one of the other spells, this might just get in the way if I activated it beforehand. That’s not even mentioning the strain it causes to my spirit."
Lucille’s spells were always the improved version, which were no doubt much more difficult to handle than other spells. Her Spirit being under strain would also mean that she would start getting headaches after using a few too many spells.
Getting rid of one of the spells reduced that strain, and allowed her to keep using the spell for much longer. freewebnøvel.coɱ
"The analysis spell though... I could never get rid of it."
The others looked at her, excited to hear what it could do.
"It can be used on any monster, regular or boss, to get information on their strengths and weaknesses. It also shows what spells they may currently have, and maybe most importantly, what loot they might have."
She paused, then added, "Given my timing issues, having information in advance is more valuable than reactive protection."
The others were surprised by her new spells. They were quite incredible.
"Although, it has a rather long cooldown, so I won’t be able to use it successively," she added at the end.
The rest of them shrugged, understanding that this was always likely to happen. Such a great spell wouldn’t come without any sort of drawback.
Roman was the next to advance to the 1st Emerald Stage. He too unlocked two different spells
The first spell allowed him to enhance someone’s physical attack power for a short duration. The second added light-elemental damage to another person’s attacks for a set amount of attacks.
"Support magic," Melayne observed with approval. "That suits you well."
Roman nodded enthusiastically. "I’m keeping both for now. They’ll help me contribute more to the party." He hesitated, then added, "Though I might get rid of one once the trial is over. I want to see how they work together first."
Ning was the last to reach the 1st Emerald Stage.
"Two spells," he finally said. "One improves critical damage, the other provides healing when I damage a monster."
Jax frowned. "Critical damage? that’s..."
"It’s useless," Ning said bluntly. "There’s no point to extra critical damage when I’m already doing the most damage I can normally."
Hitting on a Critical spot didn’t make it so that there were less Critical Spots remaining after all.
The other spell however was not bad.
"The life steal spell is different. If I activate it just before striking a critical spot, it should return a significant amount of health. I won’t have to rely on Roman to constantly heal me.."
Without hesitation, he decided to get rid of the critical damage spell.
While the others celebrated their new abilities, Jax had been making his own improvements. He had finally collected enough stones to consider spending on a few more Water stones for his Spell.
After some time, he managed to unlock it entirely.
Water Threads: Threads made up of Water have a lot more elasticity. They can also easily change shapes based on what they’re placed into. These threads are resistant to fire and corrosion.
Jax took some time to take in the new threads. He wasn’t entirely sure how he could use them, but having some threads that couldn’t be burned was a pretty good idea.
