Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 393: Don’t You Dare Cry
Women using their charm is indeed a powerful weapon against men. Xie Qingci was utterly defeated, instantly raising his hands in surrender, letting her do as she pleased.
The air conditioner and humidifier were both running at a low frequency in the room. Outside, the sun was blazing, but it was quite cool inside. However, he couldn’t feel the coolness, and ended up sweating profusely.
His neck flushed red, sweat covered his forehead, and the veins popped out on his arm that gripped the chair, gasping with pain.
It took him a while to come back to his senses.
Yu Xia withdrew her actions, retracting her foot and lightly placing it on his knee, crossing her legs to admire his state.
No wonder he grew to her liking, his face and physique uplifts her mood just by looking at him.
"Do you like it?" She asked while resting her chin.
Xie Qingci refocused his gaze, slicking back his damp hair from his forehead as his Adam’s apple moved with his words: "Today’s your birthday, the only thing to ask is if you’re happy. Did you have fun?"
"Especially happy."
She flicked her long hair and slid off the desk, sitting in his lap without a second thought.
Xie Qingci instinctively drew back, but the back of the chair halted him, leaving them tightly pressed against each other.
He sighed with closed eyes, wrapping his arms around her waist, his voice hoarse: "Is the torment not over yet?"
The closer she got, the more he endured.
Yu Xia reached out to the bookshelf and handed him a book.
"Isn’t it still light out?"
He ordered this sweet torment himself, so he had to see it through.
"Why a book? You want me to read to you?" he inquired.
"Yes," she brushed against his ear, speaking slowly, "My nap was occupied by you, now it needs to be returned. Your task is to read to me until I fall asleep, pretty please~"
Xie Qingci’s hands shook as he held the book.
He couldn’t tell if he was lulling her to sleep or reciting the Diamond Sutra to calm himself.
With resignation, he opened the book, which turned out to be a professional English handbook.
"Why do you have such a book?"
Yu Xia, having made herself comfortable, replied, "It was for filming ’Different Paths’ and an online crash course I took in professional English. This was a freebie. Get to reading, your voice sounds best right now."
"..." He didn’t know what to say, feeling like an item getting constantly marketed by shady vendors.
Sighing again, he lowered his head, kissed the top of her head gently, and started reading softly: "My proven track record of hitting sales targets makes me a strong match for this position..."
Under the assault of such a deep, magnetic voice, Yu Xia began to drowse.
She had tried it several times before; Xie Qingci’s voice, especially reading English, sounded exceptionally nice at a certain moment. Though not a native accent, it was smooth and standard, like a story read out loud for a loved one.
His reactions, however, were less settled, making her drowsiness a bit difficult.
After two or three sections, Xie Qingci suddenly stopped, panting twice, unbearably hot all over.
"Is this really all there is? Baby, I’m suffering."
Yu Xia poked his arm with her eyes closed: "No disturbing my sleep, read properly, and don’t let your heart race so quickly."
He tilted his head, making a throaty, wolf-like noise as if nearly unable to restrain himself from devouring.
After reading who knows how long, Yu Xia woke from her nap, rested against his chest for a moment, then looked up at him.
He was a picture of thoroughly worn-out weakness.
She stifled a laugh, stood up to fetch him a cup of water.
"That bad? Like you’ve been up all night working overtime."
Xie Qingci drank two cups continuously from her hand, telling her: "This is far worse than a night’s overtime. Can we be done now? I really can’t take this anymore."
This time, his plea for pity was genuinely pitiful.
Yu Xia thought it over, then perched back on the desk, tapping his arm: "I need to have dinner before seven."
Xie Qingci immediately checked his phone: "It’s already five now."
She shrugged: "So? What’s that got to do with me? I just want to eat at seven."
"...Okay."
He stood up, taking a moment to compose himself before taking a few steps, closing the room door and looking back at her from the doorway.
"Don’t go crying."
...
Some people, not even as capable as a salted fish, need a caregiver to turn over.
Lying in the bathtub, Yu Xia thought for the three hundred and eighty-second time whether humans needing companions was an evolutionary inevitability or accident.
Considering humanity’s principle of conserving energy and developing society boundlessly in twenty-four hours, certain things were purely waste of time and strength and shouldn’t be preserved in the process of genetic optimization.
As her thoughts wandered, she almost fell asleep in the bathtub, soaked until her fingers pruned. Abruptly surprised awake, reflexively cursing Xie Qingci in her heart.
The indulgent birthday had passed, Xie Qingci returned to work, while she was still at home recuperating.
Why recuperating? Because Xie Qingci was inhumane.
"Knock knock——"
Someone knocked outside the door, leaving things and walking away. She slowly put on the oversized nightgown and opened the door to get the package.
Before leaving, Xie Qingci arranged half a month’s worth of catering for her, this was already the second meal.
Because of this, she barely held back from cursing Xie Qingci thoroughly.
The set of student desks had been moved next to the living room sofa, she couldn’t bear looking at it, so she labored to drag it back into the bedroom.
The phone on the sofa buzzed and vibrated, and right on time, Xie Qingci called to check on her.
"Did you get the food?"
She slowly unpacked the box: "Nope."
His light chuckle came from the other end: "You’re lying, I can hear the packaging being opened. Still silently cursing me?"
"Who said that? Don’t falsely accuse me without reason." She took a sip of the soup, closing her eyes in comfort.
Then she couldn’t hold back a yawn.
Xie Qingci heard it, saying: "Still tired? Finish eating and go take a nap."
She nonchalantly refused: "I have plenty of time to rest, you should worry about yourself. I don’t want to hear news of you fainting from exhaustion on set and ending up in the hospital for a kidney checkup."
Xie Qingci: "..."
"You’re overthinking," he said stiffly.
Yu Xia stifled a laugh, skipped the topic, and asked him: "And you, have you eaten yet?"
"Not yet, my assistant went to get food. My ears have been red all day, is it because you’re..." thinking of me.
She quickly answered: "Yes, because I was cursing you."
Xie Qingci was speechless again, softly asking:
"Why curse me? Did I do something wrong? Tell me, I’ll change."
"Don’t you have any idea yourself? Oh, and about that daily video thing you mentioned before you left, I didn’t agree to it."
Taking advantage of her unclear mind, he coaxed her into agreeing to many terms, some of which she couldn’t even recall.
His tone immediately turned wistful: "Why not? You already promised me. We won’t see each other for two to three months, won’t you miss me?"
"Miss you my ass."
