Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 242: Don’t Touch My Brother’s Hand!
On an uneventful journey to their destination, Yu Xia discovered the place had already moved away from the outskirts and was almost into the city.
"This is dangerous. I don’t know if the pursuers are following us here too. If we turn a corner and get caught, it’s all over."
Xie Qingci took off his helmet, put on a black baseball cap, and pressed the brim down.
Ling Luo and Luo Sheng came running to join them, hiding behind a large flower bed at the corner of the wall, being careful not to be recognized.
"There are so many people here," Ling Luo remarked like Granny Liu would, "way more than I imagined. Is this spot famous?"
Xie Qingci shook his head, speaking softly, "There must be more today. Look over there at the entrance; people are pouring in continuously, looking around with their phones."
Yu Xia peeked out from behind the flower bed and noticed that it was true. Most of the incoming tourists were young girls, all looking excitedly around while glancing at their phones.
They were probably watching... their live stream?!
Yu Xia instinctively looked up at the drone overhead, and then, as luck would have it, turned back to lock eyes directly with a girl.
In the middle of the crowd, they gazed at each other with deep affection, a connection transcending the sea of people, what an artistic encounter.
Then, to Yu Xia’s great shock, the girl exclaimed excitedly, "Xiaxia!"
"..." Run!
She turned back to get on the electric scooter quickly to flee, not even minding Xie Qingci.
Xie Qingci grabbed her without asking, looking outside.
The girl already had a group standing around her, excitedly running toward them. Someone in the crowd saw Xie Qingci all in black and shouted again.
"Xie Qingci! They’re really here!"
"Ling Luo and Luo Sheng are here too! I recognized Ling Luo’s outfit!"
"Yu Xia is running away!"
"Hey brother! Are you guys selling paintings? We’ll buy them!"
"Yu Xia! Xiaxia! Don’t run away, hahaha!"
Half the street’s people gathered around, and even some who just came for a walk joined in the excitement hearing there were celebrities. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Quickly, the corner where Yu Xia and her companions were standing got surrounded, and she couldn’t find a way through on her electric scooter.
She bent forward and banged her helmet on the handlebar, lamenting inwardly.
Xie Qingci, amused, raised his voice a little, "Sis, better sell the paintings quickly and leave, or else the pursuers will get us soon."
Instantly energized, she stood on the scooter’s footrest, causing it to wobble. Xie Qingci leaned in to steady it while listening to her loudly assuring the fans:
"Everyone, don’t push! Please calm down, everyone, quiet down!"
The crowd quieted a bit, leaving only the sound of phones clicking.
Yu Xia continued, "We didn’t expect everyone to be so enthusiastic. We really appreciate your support, but safety first; please be cautious not to jostle around and avoid damaging anything in the scenic area.
Secondly, friends on the outer edge, could you help keep an eye out for the pursuers? Let us know loudly if they approach so we can escape on time. You don’t want us captured by tomorrow, right?"
"Lastly—" lastly what, "Oh, with so many people here, we don’t need distributors. Ling Luo, how about..."
Ling Luo shrunk into the corner, letting out a sharp protested yell, "Sis! You can’t do this! We agreed on five bucks!"
The fans laughed; someone already had money out, waving it, "Give me one!"
Seeing the fifty yuan bill, Yu Xia’s eyes shone.
She used the scooter as a stage and quickly adapted to her role as an offline sales influencer, handing a painting to the person, while Xie Qingci took charge of collecting the money.
"Congratulations to this friend here, obtaining an original Xie Qingci drawing! Such a beautiful piece, perfect for home decor, but remember, it can’t be resold!"
"This friend here also gets a painting. Our prices are fair and square; fifty means fifty, no price hikes and no drops, and for the two beside me as a bonus gift, the buyer can have a photo with Ling Luo and Luo Sheng!"
Ling Luo and Luo Sheng were meticulously arranged, while the usually silent Xie Qingci was responsible just for her safety and taking the money.
As the third painting sold, Xie Qingci received the money from a girl, whose hand lightly brushed his. Yu Xia, with sharp eyes, spotted it.
"Hey, hey, hey! The painting and photos with the two are already valuable enough, why is anyone giving themselves bonuses? No touching my brother’s hand!"
The crowd was in a lively ruckus with many people squeezing forward to snatch a painting; a soprano cheekily called out, "If we can’t touch his hand, Xiaxia, can we touch yours?"
Yu Xia turned up her voice, "Of course not! Oh well, go ahead and touch him instead."
Xie Qingci: "..."
He now jerked his hand back each time as he collected money, not giving anyone else a chance to touch him.
The five paintings quickly sold out, two hundred yuan in hand, and Yu Xia was happily preparing to wrap up and leave, when unexpectedly, another fan had money out in hand, waving.
"Don’t go, Xiaxia! Can you draw another one on the spot? I’ll buy it for a hundred!"
"I’ll pay two hundred!"
"How about not breaking market rules! I’ll drive you to your next mission point!"
"...This really is..." she feigned disapproval, but her words said differently, "this is really hard to refuse."
Saying so, she turned to look at Xie Qingci.
Xie Qingci sat quietly for a moment before agreeing, "Alright."
Yu Xia clapped her hands in joy, "Congratulations to the friend who first offered a hundred yuan. You get a custom on-the-spot drawing from Xie Qingci! This is a one-off event, no further discounts! What would you like drawn? Something simple."
The chosen girl clung to her friend’s hand, squealing, then exclaimed loudly, "Draw you! Brother, draw a Yu Xia!"
Yu Xia was taken aback, not expecting the selected was a... shipper fan?
She glanced at Xie Qingci. He was already pulling out his sketchbook and started sketching, with a few concise lines outlining a girl.
She turned back to face the variedly reacting fans, calmly saying, "Looks like it’s my fan, then I ought to sign it for you later, but sorry to trouble my brother; if I could draw, I’d do it myself for you, how convenient, alas, I didn’t work hard in my youth."
Within two minutes, Xie Qingci finished drawing, a lively sketch of Yu Xia riding the electric scooter, with a playful style that unmistakably portrayed Yu Xia.
Yu Xia glanced at it, signed her name, and handed the drawing to the girl.
Just as the drawing left her hand and before the money was collected, someone at the edge shouted, "The pursuers’ car just pulled up to the entrance! They’re getting out!"
Yu Xia was startled, sprang forward to grab that hundred yuan like a snatch, and pocketed it, then started up the electric scooter to flee.
Xie Qingci quickly hopped on the back, not even wearing a helmet, as the bike shot forward.
"Please make way, everyone! See you again, friends! We have to dash for our lives! Please help block them!"
