Chapter 241: Chapter 241: So Obedient

The night sky should have been bright with stars, the street outside empty, and the hotel asleep in the night.

Under the quilt, the two crimson shrimp were almost melting from each other’s warmth.

Moist, sultry, with frequent sound of waves.

Unsure how much time had passed, Yu Xia again felt a scorching touch, followed by a cool damp towel wiping her hand.

She was dizzy throughout, sleepy and exhausted and angry, but she clearly felt him push aside her long hair and kiss the tip of her ear before leaving.

"Good girl," he said hoarsely with restraint, "Go to sleep."

It was like a spell for a good night’s sleep, and she drifted off again.

She didn’t know how he left, nor whether Ling Luo and Luo Sheng noticed he moved.

The next morning, she woke up at seven, roused by Ling Luo.

If her arm wasn’t genuinely sore, she’d believe last night was just a dream.

She got ready and ran into Xie Qingci who was just about to come in.

Xie Qingci held a stainless steel bowl, with a lazy yet slightly obedient smile.

"You’re up, sister? Perfect timing, I borrowed an induction cooker from the landlady and cooked some dumplings, how many would you like?"

Yu Xia gritted her teeth, plastering on a professional fake smile: "Twelve."

Definitely warrants a double beating.

Xie Qingci agreed cheerfully, seriously divided twelve into her bowl.

The ability to have dumplings with meat for breakfast when broke meant a decent living standard.

Ling Luo was content, snuggled in Luo Sheng’s embrace, eating one after the other until tears almost flowed.

Yu Xia lowered her head, battling dumplings with her spoon, not looking at them.

It’s unclear where Xie Qingci got a tiny spoon he insisted she use; it was terribly inconvenient, requiring scooping and pushing to get food into her mouth.

Eating like a three-year-old made her quite irritable.

Xie Qingci quickly finished his meal, whether annoyed at the lovey-dovey pair or not, began discussing art sales.

"I’ve finished five paintings, with three inscribed by Yu Xia, and I’ve written blessings on two others. I’d like you both to sign them as well."

Luo Sheng and Ling Luo nodded, about to encourage "Sweetheart, eat another," when he casually asked:

"Do you have suggestions on where to sell the paintings? Have you seen any bustling areas with lots of young people on the way here?"

Luo Sheng hastily finished his dumpling, replying: "Yes, yes, the driver mentioned a converted market attraction around here frequented by college students for events. Not sure exactly where it is, though, so we’ll have to ask the landlady."

Xie Qingci nodded, adding, "Then let’s try that place first. But if it’s far, the electric bike only carries one person, so we’ll have to walk."

Luo Sheng’s face fell.

"Walking? Is there no other transportation option?"

Walking several kilometers daily could easily leave one exhausted half-way.

Xie Qingci replied calmly: "Not for now."

Finished, he gently asked Yu Xia: "Have you had enough? There’re still two left, do you want them?"

Yu Xia glanced at the bowl, about to nod, then saw Ling Luo’s pitiful expression and said: "No need, just let Ling Luo have them."

Ling Luo was about to express gratitude when she heard, "Five bucks, remember."

"..." Forget it, why bother feeling touched?

Xie Qingci looked at Luo Sheng and Ling Luo, his gaze mainly falling on Ling Luo, chilly but kindly asking: "Do you want more?"

Ling Luo burped out of the blue, quickly covering her mouth and waving her hand: "No, no thanks."

Thus the two Canghai Yizhu ended up in Yu Xia’s bowl, where she again tried hard with the small spoon.

By breakfast’s end it was eight, and Luo Sheng started getting anxious.

"Quick, quick, ask the landlady and go! It’s eight o’clock! The pursuers are starting their action! They’ll block the entrance if they find us here!"

Such urgency was nerve-wracking, causing Yu Xia and Ling Luo to hastily pack, nearly tripping each other.

Xie Qingci moved swiftly, yet unflustered, calmly reassuring: "Don’t rush, they have cars. If they really want to catch us, leaving two minutes early won’t matter."

While speaking, he carried a full backpack, handing five paintings to Yu Xia.

One carried the burden moving forward, while the other played shopkeeper, prompting Ling Luo to sneak glances at them and then at herself, thinking they seemed like two couples out for fun.

Xie Qingci’s demeanor resembled Luo Sheng’s, even excelling in some ways... Wait, Ling Luo felt confused for suddenly thinking her boyfriend’s performance wasn’t good?

Downstairs after checking out, they inquired the landlady about the attraction.

Seeing them, the landlady was a bit embarrassed but actively responded to their inquiries.

"You’re talking about the East Suburb, right? It’s a bit far from here, about seven or eight kilometers."

Ling Luo instantly exclaimed: "That far?! My feet were nearly blistered yesterday!"

She wasn’t wearing sneakers, and was limp today.

The landlady continued: "But here’s great news! We’re heading to the wholesale market there for hotel supplies, so we can give you a lift. With that electric bike, we can take two people."

Light at the end of the tunnel, Ling Luo excitedly ran outside with the driver, followed closely by Luo Sheng.

Decisions weren’t needed, as they naturally assumed they’d catch the ride.

Xie Qingci asked Yu Xia: "Do you want to take the car?"

"No," she said, already putting on her helmet, "I get carsick easily after breakfast. Will you ride or shall I?"

"Me."

Riding the small electric scooter, Xie Qingci appeared like a tall man on a low stool, while Yu Xia sat behind, her head barely reaching his shoulder blades.

On the road, the wind blew fiercely as she looked at his speed, suggesting: "Slow down a bit."

Xie Qingci’s voice carried by the wind: "I’m afraid to lose sight of the landlady’s car. Hold onto my clothes, stay steady."

Yu Xia cynically scoffed internally, thinking he wished.

Grabbing the seat rather than his clothes, she maintained no contact with him.

But this posture was indeed unsafe; when Xie Qingci braked, she hit his back with a muffled grunt.

Xie Qingci: "I’m going to cough blood."

She followed up with nonsense: "Go ahead, internal injuries need that for recovery."

Just normal behavior and conversation, but the comments translated it flawlessly.

[Yu Xia indeed began avoiding suspicion, refusing even to touch Xie Qingci.]

[Internal injury? Isn’t this subtly indicating that liking him only leads to harm and continuing will cause severe injury and bleeding? Doesn’t this mean Yu Xia won’t love Xie Qingci?]

[With imagination like that, your school reading comprehension scores must’ve been through the roof, right?]

[Yu Xia probably knows Xie Qingci’s fans will vilify her, hence her avoidance! Their interaction must be so awkward!]
