Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 168: Xie Qingci Beats Someone Up
Yu Xia regretted it.
She shouldn’t have taken on this role, nor should she have let that little wolf start acting up again. What she absolutely shouldn’t have done was to always go soft on him.
Now it’s come to this; after standing for half an hour, her waist felt like it was going to snap, drawing strange looks from Mei.
As soon as the director called cut, she lay down on a recliner, draping a heated shawl over her waist, and let out a comfortable sigh.
Xie Qingci walked past her, and she didn’t spare him a glance. The two were like unfamiliar strangers, without a hint of the affection from the night before.
Mei returned with hot water, glanced at their expressions, and clicked her tongue twice in her mind.
Is this what they call ’acting indifferent in public but entangled in private’? How exciting.
"Sister, do you want to hear some gossip from the last few days?"
Yu Xia yawned, "Let’s hear it."
Lately, apart from filming, she had been hanging out with Xie Qingci, her schedule packed tight, leaving her no time to surf the web or catch up on the latest gossip.
Mei leaned in and whispered, "Pei Lu, remember him? He went to film a series, also in costume."
"Oh?" She raised an eyebrow, "But it’s understandable. Even though he hasn’t officially debuted, he’s been on screen for a few episodes, and everyone knows he looks like Cheng Yiding. Someone will surely exploit that face to shoot low-budget web series to make quick money."
However, Pei Lu’s series couldn’t compare to theirs in any aspect.
"What else?" she asked.
"Also, Song Xi was so overwhelmed with work he fainted from a high fever just last night. I heard an ambulance had to rush him to the hospital."
It’s quite lamentable really, Song Xi’s popularity isn’t much lower than Xie Qingci’s, but since his debut ranking didn’t please the company, he became eager to appear more often this year to gain as much attention as possible, even at the expense of his health.
Mei murmured, "I wonder if it’s his own determination or the company pushing to exploit his value."
Probably a bit of both, Yu Xia thought. But she made no comment and asked, "Anything else?"
"Yes, yes, there’s the juiciest one: netizens uncovered that Yuan Wang might be dating, something about similarities between pets they have. And—Huang Jialuo abused her assistant to the point of causing depression, and the assistant jumped to their death."
Yu Xia sat up straight in disbelief.
"She abused her assistant until they committed suicide?!"
Mei nodded slowly, "The assistant’s family called the police, found evidence on her phone, and Huang Jialuo has been arrested."
Huang Jialuo was a fairly well-known third-tier actress. Although they had never worked together, every time Yu Xia saw her news online or her face, she always thought she looked quite sweet and cute.
Who knew she was this kind of person in private.
Even knowing many people in this circle are two-faced, and that the beautiful personas online deserve a discount, she didn’t expect something that would end someone’s life.
She took a sip of water to calm her nerves, and glimpsed Mei frowning from the corner of her eye, reaching out to pull her closer.
"Don’t overthink it, I won’t be like Huang Jialuo, and you’ll never be that assistant. I can’t say I’m the best to my assistant, but I can guarantee that as long as you’re my assistant, something like this will never happen."
Looking into her bright eyes, Mei smiled and nodded.
"I know what kind of person you are, Sister."
He Ci too, despite his sharp tongue, is actually very polite and friendly to the managers’ assistants and artist assistants. For the past two years on her birthdays, she’s received gifts from both Yu Xia and He Ci.
Whether expensive or not, just remembering is quite commendable.
The two shared a smile, and Yu Xia winked her right eye at her, saying, "This news is bound to cause a storm."
"I think so too."
With the first example tearing open this façade, more similar revelations are bound to emerge.
Sure enough, within half a day, several people claiming to be assistants to certain celebrities came forward with stories of diva behavior, solicitation, or using half their salary to trade for roles.
It stirred up a huge frenzy, and just after the Fan Chu incident, the entertainment circle buzzed with noise once again.
During a break from filming, Yu Xia switched to her alternate account to surf the web for a few minutes, unable to hide her shocked expressions as she caught up on the gossip.
So bold, how do some performers dare to do such things, fearless of exposure? In this day and age, nothing is truly secret anymore.
Just as she was getting into it, the director called her.
"Yu Xia!"
"Coming!"
The director had a new idea about the female lead’s emotional transition in the next scene and pulled the screenwriter in to discuss potential revisions.
Yu Xia chatted with the screenwriter, offering a suggestion: "How about we completely separate the two personalities early on, so she won’t have any impression of Lu Jiu, and when they meet again the next day, it’s still that unfamiliarity..."
"Director! Xie Qingci got into a fight!"
Hearing the staff’s shout, she turned sharply.
The director hurried out, "A fight? With whom? Where?"
"At the hotel! His manager went over too, and they called the police!"
A group dashed to the hotel, Yu Xia’s heart pounding, her brow furrowed with anxiety.
Xie Qingci isn’t the type to easily get into conflicts, and even if he did fight, who would it be with? He’s barely been in the crew a few days; he wouldn’t cause such trouble.
She suddenly remembered the inexplicable person knocking on her door last night.
Could it be the person held back and went mad today?
More agitated, she hurried to the hotel, squeezing through a throng to the front, entering the lobby’s lounge.
She caught sight of two policemen escorting a man out. A glance confirmed it was the guy from last night.
Yu Xia only gave a quick look, then immediately turned her attention to Xie Qingci, who was inside getting his wounds treated.
His face was perfectly fine, no issues with his arms and legs, only his collarbone area was bandaged.
She was partly relieved.
The director urgently asked, "What happened?"
Xie Qingci tilted his head to allow the assistant easier access while bandaging and glanced at Yu Xia as he responded.
"I went back to the hotel to get something. As I was leaving, I saw someone taking pictures and recording videos outside Yu Xia’s room, even slipping photos under the door. It seemed suspicious, so I went to question him."
"But he denied everything, claiming he’s about to be Yu Xia’s boyfriend, that she loves him so much she wants his photos as keepsakes. I found the photos disgusting and knew it couldn’t be true, so I warned him to leave, or I’d call the police. But he wasn’t afraid and charged at me. Ow—"
The assistant immediately lightened their touch.
After selling some misfortune, he continued, "He clearly had issues, so I reported him to the police."
