Shen Heyu smiled and said, “Yes, I have achieved some successes in my job back home. I hope Uncle Shen can take a look and, if possible, I hope to apply through a formal interview to work at your company.”
“After dinner, come to my study, and we can take a good look.”
Mr. Shen was poor in his early years, which led to Shen Jiangli being bullied at school. Shen Heyu had helped him, and that was how their connection was formed.
Later, Mr. Shen moved his family abroad where his career finally developed. Having climbed up from the bottom, he was patient with everyone.
In the study after dinner.
Mr. Shen had reviewed Shen Heyu’s work proposals from back home and did not hold back in pointing out their deficiencies.
...
Yet there were also strengths, and he gave fair assessments in every aspect.
Finally, he said, “You are indeed very capable. Your vision and methods indicate you will achieve great success on this path.”
“If you want to join my company, you can come for an interview tomorrow. However, I won’t give you any special treatment; everything will depend on your own efforts.”
Shen Heyu nodded. This was exactly what she wanted.

Meanwhile, back home.
Bai Sheng’er had been in her apartment, and due to Shen Heyu’s situation, she hadn’t gone to the company for two or three days.
She was constantly worried that Shen Jiangli would deal with her. Most importantly, Pei Yansi hadn’t visited once in these past days. If he didn’t come, there would be no one to protect her.
Fearful, she couldn’t help but dial his number once more.
Her calls had never gone through in the past few days.
But this time, after the phone rang for a while, it was finally answered. Bai Sheng’er cried with joy, “Brother Yan Si, you finally answered my call…”
“What is it?” His three words carried an indifferent coldness and were somewhat hoarse, as if caused by smoking a lot.
“When will you come to see me… I miss you so much…”
Pei Yansi sat in the marriage room he shared with Shen Heyu, listening to her words, feeling indifferent inside, even a bit disgusted.
He looked around the marriage room. Since Shen Heyu had left, he hadn’t stayed here, but he also hadn’t changed anything inside.
The pajamas she changed out of and left on the bed were still there, messy. She usually wouldn’t do this, he thought of what she had said in the VIP room that day.
She was in such a hurry to meet him that she had carelessly left the pajamas there.
Pei Yansi closed his eyes. In this empty marriage room, her scent had dissipated, and the air was only cold.
In his mind, he remembered how she had been in front of him, always that same serene, cold face, with no expressions, no emotions, until Bai Sheng’er appeared. She would cry, and when she was pregnant, she would curl up in his arms due to the cold.
Pei Yansi never knew, until after she left, that he would remember so many of her small ways, even that cold, detached face was deeply imprinted in his memory.
“Brother Yan Si?” Bai Sheng’er spoke again, interrupting his thoughts, “Can you come to see me…”
Her voice was choked with sobs.
Pei Yansi’s gaze darkened. The words Shen Heyu had said were still replaying in his mind. He said gravely, “Wait for me.”
After hanging up, he got up from the sofa, grabbed the coat beside him, and when he stood up, his tall figure swayed slightly, nearly causing him to fall to the ground.
He quickly grabbed the armrest of the sofa, preventing himself from falling. Weary, he rubbed his brow and finally cast a deep glance at the wedding photo with Shen Heyu hanging on the wall before leaving the room.
He summoned Zhao Jin, gathered his men, and drove to Bai Sheng’er’s apartment.
He and his entourage stood outside the door and rang the doorbell. Bai Sheng’er swung the door open excitedly, the smile on her face freezing when she saw the many bodyguards following Pei Yansi.
“Brother Yan Si?”
Pei Yansi glanced at her indifferently and said to Zhao Jin, “Go in. Pack up her things.”
Zhao Jin nodded and, followed by his men, burst in and began to take out all of Bai Sheng’er’s belongings without a word.
Confused and panicking, she grasped Pei Yansi’s wrist, “Brother Yan Si, what is this about?”
Pei Yansi looked down, his gaze cold and devoid of warmth. She shuddered under his stare and instinctively let go of his wrist.
Apparently satisfied by her action, he sat on the couch, lit a cigarette casually, and said, “You don’t need to live here anymore. Go back to where you came from.”
“Me? Why, Brother Yan Si, don’t you want me anymore?”
As she spoke, tears began to fall. She walked beside him, knelt down, and looked up at him with eyes as clear and rippling as spring water, begging for mercy.
A sight that would evoke pity in anyone.
But Pei Yansi looked on with utter indifference. He chuckled coldly, lifted her chin, stared at her tears, and felt only annoyance.
They were nothing like the fervor of Shen Heyu.
Her fervor had almost seared itself into his heart.
He smirked, “When exactly have I ever wanted you?”
She froze, disbelieving, “Yan Si…”
“Shen Heyu may not be in my heart, but you are not even in my sight. With just a passing resemblance, you poison at will. Do you really think I, Pei Yansi, am so easily manipulated?”
“Don’t tell me whether that child is mine or not; she was at least my wife. Do you think this is a TV drama, where the male lead is clueless about whether he has left offspring?”
“That child could only ever be mine alone. You killed my own flesh and blood, what right do you have to stay here? I wanted to give you a way out, but you repeatedly failed to change, even still trying to contact me.”
“Now that I’ve come to see you, are you happy?”
“…Brother Yan Si…”
Hearing his words, Bai Sheng’er collapsed to the ground, as if struck by lightning, sitting limply. It was the first time he had spoken so extensively to her, his words heartless and his indifference extreme.
Unwilling to give up, she cried, still trying to cling to him, but Pei Yansi was already impatiently flicking off his cigarette ash, “If you come any closer, I won’t hesitate to ruin your face.”
“Why…”
“Because you killed my own child, you don’t deserve to look like Fanshuang, understand?” Pei Yansi cruelly laughed as he stubbed out his cigarette on the coffee table.
By then, Zhao Jin and the others had finished packing her belongings, throwing them out where they were collected as trash.
Bai Sheng’er cried incessantly, unable to fathom how a child could cause such a drastic change in a man.
Her crying only intensified Pei Yansi’s annoyance. He told Zhao Jin, “Contact the police, report truthfully. Submit the evidence left by Shen Jiangli, make them handle it properly.”
Zhao Jin nodded, “Yes.”
Bai Sheng’er, feeling utterly despairing, heard the word “police” and realized she was finished.
