Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Carried and Kissed into the Bedroom

The night was deep and still.

Wren Sutton returned to her bedroom after a shower and called the caregiver, Aunt Zane.

They chatted briefly. After confirming that Zoey hadn’t been fussy and had gone straight to bed after dinner, Wren gave a few more instructions before hanging up, relieved.

Just then, she noticed the curtains weren’t fully drawn. As she got out of bed and walked to the windowsill to fix them, her gaze drifted downstairs, where she saw Adrian Lancaster’s car still parked in the same spot.

That Rolls-Royce—the only one of its kind in all of Aston—and that brazen, imposing license plate number were impossible for Wren Sutton to mistake.

That was Adrian Lancaster’s car!

Wren Sutton’s fingertips trembled. An indescribable feeling welled up inside her as she quickly yanked the curtains shut and took half a step back, her face a mask of disbelief. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

’Why hasn’t Adrian Lancaster left yet? How late is he planning on staying?’

Just as Wren Sutton’s thoughts were in turmoil, her phone PINGED with a new message.

"I saw you draw the curtains. Still up this late?"

After a moment’s hesitation, Wren Sutton replied, "Why haven’t you left?"

Adrian Lancaster: "The moonlight’s beautiful tonight. I’m just sitting in my car, enjoying the view."

Wren Sutton: "It’s not like you can only see the moon from in front of my building."

Adrian Lancaster: "But this is the closest I can be to you."

Wren Sutton could hardly believe such cheesy, sappy words were coming from Adrian Lancaster. She didn’t feel the slightest flutter in her heart; instead, she found it childish and ridiculous.

Deciding not to reply, Wren Sutton switched her phone to silent, placed it on the nightstand, turned off the light, and lay down to sleep.

’If he wants to moon-gaze, let him. It’s not stopping me from sleeping. He’ll go home when he gets tired.’

The night grew deeper.

Later that night, a bolt of lightning tore across the pitch-black sky, followed by a tremendous RUMBLE of thunder.

Immediately after, a torrential downpour began, hammering against the windowpanes.

The noise woke Wren Sutton. She sat up, rubbed her drowsy eyes, and glanced at her phone. It was 3:30 a.m.

’The rain is so heavy.’

A thought flashed through her mind. She got out of bed, went to the window, and pulled the curtain open just a crack to look down.

’Adrian Lancaster’s car is still there!’

’Has he lost his mind? Is he an idiot? In this awful weather... if something happens to him, my family might be held responsible.’

Not wanting to cause trouble for her parents, Wren Sutton resentfully picked up her phone and dialed Adrian Lancaster’s number.

He picked up almost immediately.

"Adrian Lancaster, what exactly are you trying to do? You still haven’t left, and now the rain’s so heavy you can’t go anywhere."

Adrian shot back, his lazy voice a little hoarse, "Then what do you suggest I do?"

"I don’t know," Wren Sutton snapped.

Adrian Lancaster looked up at her window, an undercurrent swirling in the depths of his dark eyes.

’The fact that Wren called means she’s still thinking about me. The angrier she is, the more she cares.’

The heavy rain muffled the sound of his car door closing and soaked him to the bone.

After some deliberation, Wren Sutton broke the long silence. "The rain’s getting heavier. Maybe you should..."

"Open the door."

Adrian Lancaster’s voice came through the phone.

Wren Sutton thought she was hearing things. "What did you say?"

"The rain’s too heavy. It’s not safe in the car, so I came up to get out of the storm."

’I can’t believe Adrian was so fast,’ Wren thought. ’I hadn’t even finished speaking, and he’s already upstairs.’

"Honey, I’m begging you, open the door. I’m soaked, and it’s too cold in the hallway."

’He even used the word "begging."’

Her thoughts a tangled mess, Wren Sutton walked out of the bedroom to open the door for Adrian Lancaster.

The rain had been so heavy that even in the few short steps from the car to the building’s entrance, he’d gotten soaked. Combined with having been up all night, his face clearly showed signs of exhaustion.

An indescribable feeling washed over Wren Sutton, and a tightness formed in her chest.

"Why are you going to all this trouble?"

"For you." Adrian Lancaster stepped forward and pulled Wren Sutton into his arms. Cupping her face, he lowered his head and kissed her.

Her breathing grew ragged. The intimacy between them, underscored by the sound of the rain, swelled uncontrollably.

By the time Wren Sutton came to her senses, Adrian Lancaster had already carried her into the bedroom, kissing her all the while.

He pressed her against the door, his searing kisses unstoppable.

Once again, the sound of the rain became the perfect cover.
