Chapter 69: Yor’s Friends

Yor looked at the three students sitting up in their beds, all staring at her with complex emotions swirling in their newly restored eyes. Her hands clasped together in front of her chest as she took a shaky breath.

"I’m sorry." She said in a whisper. "I’m so sorry for being the cause of your siblings’ emotionless state... For destroying their futures and making them into empty shells."

The tall boy grits his teeth, the girl with short black hair’s hands clenched the sheets, and the boy with glasses looked down at his lap.

"I understand, I really do." Yor continued with a tremble. "How it feels to see the people you love change so drastically. To watch them be destroyed right in front of you and feel powerless to stop it. I don’t blame you guys for being angry at me, I–"

"But as Yor’s friends." Reinhard interrupted as he stepped forward. "We absolutely do blame you for how you treated her."

Everyone’s heads snapped toward him.

The three students blinked in surprise, and even Yor looked confused by the sudden intervention.

"What?" The girl asked defensively. "She destroyed our siblings! We had every right to–"

"No." Reinhard said flatly as he cut through her words. "You didn’t."

He walked closer to the beds until he stood beside Yor. "Your siblings tried to touch Yor even though she never allowed it. She already said she didn’t like physical contact and kept her distance from them."

The tall boy opened his mouth to argue, but Reinhard continued relentlessly.

"It was your siblings who ignored those warnings. It was they who hugged her as a joke and violated her boundaries despite all her efforts to protect them."

"But she should have–" The girl started.

"Should have what?" Reinhard asked with his eyebrow raised. "Locked herself in a room forever or speak to anyone ever? That isn’t fair to her, especially when she was trying her best to deal with something she never asked for."

He leaned forward slightly as his silver eyes narrowed. "What you guys experienced these past few days. This is exactly what Yor was trying desperately to prevent."

The three people flinched a bit as he continued. "She lived in constant fear of accidentally doing to others what eventually happened to your siblings. And when it did happen, she blamed herself more than any of you ever could."

The three students fell silent as the fight drained out of them.

The tall boy’s shoulders slumped.

The girl with black hair looked away.

The boy with glasses adjusted his frames nervously.

Yor watched Reinhard with a faint smile appearing on her face. Sirin’s expression softened, Rika smiled, Alice grinned with a thumbs up, and Louis nodded his head.

The boy with glasses sighed heavily before nodding. "I suppose you’re right about that. It was just so irritating to see them like that... And everyone refuses to tell us what happened."

"I figured out that much." Reinhard said. "But it isn’t her fault."

All three students nodded slowly as their hostility faded a bit but he could see some was there with anxiety.

Yor moved closer to the beds before surprising everyone by reaching out to grasp the students’ hands in hers. "But either way, it was still my power that made your siblings emotionless. And I want to fix it. I want to give them back what I took."

The tall boy looked at their joined hands with wonder still clear on his face that touching her was safe now. "Can you really heal them? Make them normal again?"

"I believe so," Yor said with confidence in her voice. "If the technique worked on all of you, it should work on them too... I told you, I understand it."

"Do you?" The girl’s eyes filled with tears suddenly. "You understand what it’s like coming home from school one day to find my older sister just... sitting there? Staring at nothing?"

Her voice cracked as the words tumbled out faster. "Knowing full well she was going to graduate with honors..."

She couldn’t finish as sobs choked off her words.

Everyone fell silent.

Reinhard noted the expression of the other two boys and knew they had similar stories. He glanced around to see Sirin and the others with sympathetic looks while Yor’s expression softened.

How will you handle this, Yor?

"I know how you guys feel... The same thing happened to my parents as well. They are also in the same state as your siblings." Yor said softly, making the girl’s eyes widen. "And I had to live with that for years."

"Y-Your parents were-"

"They were..." Yor’s hands tightened on theirs as tears streamed freely down her face now. "And it ate away at me for years... But now I can fix it. Not only them, but your siblings as well, please believe in me. I’ll give them all back to you."

The girl trembled and gaze into Yor eyes for a bit. As if finding something that she was looking for, the girl smile and nodded slowly.

"I-I believe you..." The other two boys nodded with a smile and hope shining in their eyes as they gazed at Yor.

Yor smiled before turning toward Victoria and asking with desperation clear in her voice. "Is it okay for me to travel with them to their homes?"

Victoria hummed thoughtfully before glancing at Adam. "What do you think, Adam? You’re the medical expert here."

Adam fell silent as he crossed his arms, then considered carefully. The room waited with bated breath for his verdict.

"I want to wait a day or two first," he said finally. "To verify that Yor’s control really is stable long-term. We need to make sure today wasn’t just a temporary success that could fail under different circumstances."

Disappointment flickered across the three students’ and Yor’s faces, but Adam continued.

"If her control holds steady over the next forty-eight hours, though, then yes. She can go heal your siblings." He looked at Yor directly. "But only if she’s accompanied by a professor at all times during the visits. For everyone’s safety and as official documentation."

Victoria laughed as her voice was bright with amusement. "Well Chen, are you up for a little field trip to play babysitter?"

Professor Chen nodded with a small smile appearing on her usually stern face. "Of course. It’s our job to make sure our students are safe and fine, no matter if they are here or not."

"Then it’s settled," Victoria clapped her hand with a smile "Two days of monitoring, then we take a trip to restore some lives."

Yor’s smile grew brilliant as hope lit up her entire face. The three students all smiled too as tears of relief mixed with their earlier ones.

"Thank you." The tall boy said with sincerity ringing through his words. "Thank you so much."

"We’re sorry." The girl added quickly as she wiped her eyes. "For what we said in the mall and pushing you... For insulting your friends."

"It’s fine, you don’t need to apologize." Yor interrupted with a smile.

Alice couldn’t contain herself any longer as she rushed forward with Sirin, Rika, and Louis right behind her. Reinhard chuckle when he saw all of them rushing over and bringing Yor in a massive group hug.

"You’re amazing!" Alice shouted with her voice muffled against Yor’s shoulder.

"You’re going to save so many people," Rika added with a smile.

"This is incredible," Sirin said as her composed demeanor cracked a bit.

"You did it," Louis finished simply with a wide grin.

Reinhard found himself pulled into the group hug as well, with multiple hands grabbing his arms and shoulders and dragging him into the tangle of bodies. Everyone laughed as the sound was joyful and relieved and filled with hope.

But as the celebration continued, Adam’s expression grew more serious.

It was something Reinhard caught as he saw Adam pull a small notebook from his pocket. He saw how quickly he wrote some things down. He quickly grasped what it was, and he knew from now on, he would have Adam’s suspicion placed on the entire club.

But it wasn’t just Adam who was suspicious.

He could feel it, both the gaze of Professor Chen and Victoria.

Well, it seems I have to be more careful and pay attention to my surroundings more. Reinhard thought in amusement.

After he found out how many people knew about Yor’s void powers and her condition. It would be expected that after the system sealed her powers away, many would be curious and suspicious.

In the future, he was sure those people would demand answers to those questions. But it’s not like this was the first time he had to create a fake person or answer after all.

Still, I think I will need to also plan out on how to deal with Victoria deal. And also, the headmaster who seemed to know something about me. That look he gave was too suspicious.
