The Beast Tamer's Awakening: Amaya and the White Tiger King-Chapter 15: THE ROAD THROUGH SILVERFANG WOODS
The moment Leo crossed the Sanctuary threshold, the forest air struck Amaya like a wave.
Cold.
Alive.
Wind swept through the silver trees, carrying whispers of magic and the distant scent of snow. Leo held her tightly as he moved, his tail still coiled around her waist for extra support. His pace was swift—silent but powerful—each leap of his feet sending leaves swirling behind them.
Amaya clung to him.
Not because she was afraid of falling.
But because she could feel it.
His heartbeat.
Thunderous, steady, unyielding.
Like a shield wrapped around her entire existence.
"Leo," she murmured softly, lifting her head from his shoulder. "How far is your kingdom?"
He didn’t slow.
"Far enough," he said. "We must pass through Silverfang Woods before we reach the northern ridgeline."
"Is it dangerous?"
His jaw tightened.
"Normally? No. It’s neutral territory. My people guard the borders, and lesser beasts know better than to challenge a Tiger King."
Amaya’s brows knit.
"And now...?"
Leo didn’t answer.
But his grip on her tightened.
Enough of an answer.
She shifted slightly in his hold. "Leo, let me down. You don’t have to carry me the whole way."
He stopped.
So suddenly she gasped.
He looked down at her, eyes burning softly.
"I know I don’t have to," he said. "I want to."
Her cheeks flushed.
"I can walk—"
"No." His voice dropped to a low, gentle rumble. "Not when you’re still vulnerable. Not when corrupted mana is spreading through the forest. Not when even a branch snapping could hide a threat."
She swallowed.
He lowered his head closer, voice quiet.
"And not when I almost lost you once already."
Her heart clenched.
"Leo..."
He didn’t let her speak.
Instead, he shifted her more securely in his arms and continued forward, muscles rippling beneath her as he leapt across a fallen tree.
"Try to rest," he murmured. "I’ll handle everything else."
Amaya’s chest tightened.
He was being too soft.
Too protective.
Too... everything.
But she didn’t fight it.
Not this time.
Instead, she rested her forehead against his collarbone, breathing in his warm, wild scent as the forest blurred around them.

❖ The Forest’s Whisper ❖
Silverfang Woods was stunning.
Even in the looming tension.
Tall, pale trees reached toward the sky, their leaves glowing faintly blue under the rising moon. Strange insects flitted between the branches like floating shards of crystal. Wisps—gentle forest spirits—hovered near the path, their lights shimmering in the cold air.
But the deeper they moved...
The more the beauty turned wrong.
A faint black haze clung to the roots of the trees.
The wisps flickered nervously.
Even the wind felt uneasy, like it hesitated before touching them.
Amaya shivered.
"...Leo? Is this because of the corruption from the Moonwell?"
Leo nodded once, ears twitching as he scanned the surroundings.
"The leyline runs through here. The Priestess’s influence spreads fast." His voice dropped lower. "Faster than expected."
He quickened his pace.
Amaya bit her lip. "If this corruption keeps spreading... what happens?"
Leo’s silence said everything.
At last, he answered.
"The forest dies."
A beat.
"Then the land."
Another beat.
"And if she gains full control of the leyline... the northern kingdoms will fall next."
Amaya stared at him.
"Leo... this is bigger than just hunting me."
"It is," he said, voice flat. "You’re only one piece of her goal. A necessary piece. She wants your Awakening."
"But why?"
Leo’s jaw hardened.
"She wants you to break the seal."
Amaya stiffened. "What seal? She mentioned it too. What does it mean?"
Leo slowed, finally coming to a stop in a quiet clearing illuminated by drifting moonlight. He set her down gently—carefully—as if she were made of something fragile and precious.
He didn’t step away.
His hands lingered on her waist.
His tail curled loosely around her thigh in reflex.
He didn’t seem to notice.
Amaya did.
"Leo," she whispered, "please tell me."
He looked at her.
Really looked at her.
Like he was weighing how much truth she was ready for.
At last, he exhaled.
"There is a creature sealed beneath the northern mountains," he said quietly. "Older than kingdoms. Older than my bloodline. Older than the Beast Tamer heritage you carry."
Amaya’s breath caught.
"A creature?"
"A deity," Leo corrected. "A monster-god."
Her chest tightened. "What kind of god?"
His eyes darkened.
"Blood."
Amaya froze.
Leo continued.
"It once ruled through chaos—consuming, binding, claiming. Beast Tamers of your bloodline sealed it away millennia ago, sacrificing half their strength."
"Wait—Beast Tamers sealed it?"
"Yes." Leo’s voice softened. "Your ancestors protected this world from it. But that seal was not perfect. It weakens every thousand years. And if the heir’s power awakens out of balance..."
He stepped closer, brushing a strand of hair from her face.
"...you could be forced to unseal it."
Her heart hammered.
"Me?"
"Your bloodline carries the key." He touched the center of her chest lightly. "And your awakening anchors the lock."
Amaya felt cold spread through her bones.
"So the Shadow Priestess needs me to break the seal."
"Yes."
"And if I do... the monster-god will be freed."
"Yes."
"And the world—"
"Will burn," Leo finished quietly. "Starting with everything you love."
The forest fell silent.
Amaya felt the weight of it like chains around her lungs.
Leo stepped closer, tail curling around her protectively.
"You will not break," he said fiercely. "I will not let you."
She swallowed. "...But what if I can’t control the power inside me? What if she’s right? What if it consumes everything?"
Leo leaned down until his forehead touched hers.
"You won’t lose control," he murmured. "Not while I’m with you."
His hand cupped her cheek.
"And I’m not leaving."
Her breath trembled.
She lifted her hand and touched his chest—right over his heart.
"You really mean that."
His eyes flickered gold.
"I do."
Their breath mingled.
Close.
Too close.
Amaya’s lips parted.
Leo tilted his head, eyes flicking to her mouth—
Then—
A branch snapped sharply nearby.
Leo instantly shoved Amaya behind him, claws unsheathed, tail lashing.
"Show yourself."
Silence.
Then...
A figure stumbled out of the bushes.
Not an enemy.
But someone injured.
A tall fox-eared boy with bright rust-colored hair and blood-soaked robes. He collapsed to the ground, coughing violently.
Amaya gasped. "Leo, he’s hurt!"
Leo narrowed his eyes. "He smells like... Silver Court. He’s one of mine."
The boy looked up weakly.
His eyes lit up the moment he saw Leo.
"Y-Your Majesty..."
Leo crouched beside him. "What happened?"
"T-the northern ridge—" the boy wheezed. "We were attacked. Shadows. Dozens of them. They—they were hunting for..."
His gaze slid to Amaya.
All the color drained from his face.
"It’s her," he whispered. "The Priestess wants her."
Leo’s expression turned deadly.
"I know."
"She sent an Alpha Shade," the boy choked out. "A commander-type. We—we couldn’t stop it."
Leo’s pupils shrank.
Amaya’s blood ran cold.
"Leo... what’s an Alpha Shade?"
He turned toward her slowly.
"Something I hoped you would never have to see."
He rose to his full height, lifting the fox boy effortlessly and setting him against a tree.
"Rest. When my soldiers find you, they’ll bring you home."
"Your Majesty," the boy whispered, voice broken, "the Alpha... it’s coming. It—"
Leo cut him off.
"I know."
He turned toward Amaya.
His gaze was not calm.
Not gentle.
Not teasing.
It was pure, focused, territorial fire.
"Amaya," he said softly. "Stay behind me. No matter what."
She nodded.
The wind howled suddenly, chilling them both.
Amaya felt it before she saw it—
The darkness.
Like ink pooling across the ground.
Branches snapped. Leaves shriveled. The air thickened with a cold so unnatural it hurt to breathe.
Then—
A tall, monstrous silhouette stepped between the trees.
Horns curved from its skull.
Eyes glowed bright, malevolent purple.
Four arms.
Bladed fingers.
Its presence alone warped the air.
Leo exhaled once.
Calm.
Deadly.
"Alpha Shade," he murmured. "A commander of the Shadow Priestess’s army."
The creature hissed.
"Hand over... the heir..."
Amaya staggered back.
Leo stepped forward, tail snapping like a whip.
"Come take her," he snarled.
The Alpha lunged.
Leo met it head-on.
The collision shook the entire forest.
Amaya screamed.
Leo’s roar echoed so loudly it rattled the trees.
The Alpha swiped, claws ripping the ground—
Leo dodged, grabbed one of its arms, and broke it with a sickening crack.
But the creature didn’t scream.
It only smiled.
And its broken arm reformed instantly.
Leo’s eyes widened.
"Tch. Regenerator."
The monster’s tail struck Leo like a battering ram, slamming him into a tree with explosive force.
"Leo!" Amaya cried.
He grunted, shook off the impact, and launched forward again.
White lightning exploded from his fists.
His stripes glowed like molten gold.
He slashed—
The Alpha caught his arm mid-strike.
And squeezed.
Leo growled in agony.
The creature hissed, pressing close.
"Give... the heir..."
Leo’s eyes shifted fully into his beast form—gold, bright, burning.
"Over my dead body."
He slammed his forehead into the Alpha’s skull, breaking bone. The creature staggered.
But then—
It twisted its head unnaturally far and lunged toward Amaya instead.
Leo’s face drained of color.
"AMAYA!"
She stumbled back, heart racing.
But something inside her flickered.
A glow.
A pulse.
Instinct.
Amaya raised her hand—
And the air around her rippled.
Silver threads burst outward in a circle, forming a shimmering dome. The Alpha Shade slammed into it and recoiled with a screech.
Leo froze.
Eyes wide.
"Amaya..." he whispered. "You summoned a barrier."
She stared at her trembling hands.
"I—I didn’t mean to. It just happened."
The Alpha screamed and struck the barrier again.
Cracks spread across the silver surface.
Leo’s expression sharpened into panic.
"Amaya, drop the barrier!"
"I can’t—It won’t listen!"
Leo lunged toward her.
But the Alpha lunged again.
And the barrier shattered.
"AMAYA!" Leo roared.
Before the monster could reach her—
Amaya felt something ignite in her chest.
A burst of heat.
A surge of power.
Her eyes flared bright silver.
And she screamed—
Light exploded from her body.
A shockwave of pure lunar energy blasted outward, throwing Leo and the Alpha Shade in opposite directions. The forest lit up like a second moon had fallen.
When the light finally faded...
Amaya collapsed to her knees, panting.
Leo stared at her in disbelief.
The Alpha was gone—obliterated.
Not even ash remained.
Leo approached her slowly, like approaching a star.
"Amaya," he breathed. "You awakened again."
She looked up at him weakly.
"I... didn’t mean to. It just... reacted to protect me."
Leo lifted her into his arms.
He didn’t speak.
Not at first.
He held her tightly, burying his face against her neck as he trembled.
"You could have died," he whispered. "You used power you can’t control."
Amaya’s fingers curled into his shirt.
"I didn’t want you to get hurt."
Leo pulled back, eyes blazing with emotion.
"Amaya... I don’t care what happens to me."
Her breath hitched.
"I care what happens to you."
His voice cracked.
His hands framed her face.
"You’re too precious to lose."
She stared at him.
And for a moment...
The fear faded.
The corruption.
The Priestess.
The seal.
Everything.
There was only Leo.
And the way he looked at her like she was the only thing keeping his world from falling apart.
"Leo..." she whispered. "...I’m scared."
He pulled her against his chest and held her like he would never let go.
"I know," he whispered into her hair. "But you have me."
His tail curled around her.
His heartbeat steadied.
His voice softened to a vow.
"And nothing—not gods, not monsters, not fate—will take you from me."
Amaya closed her eyes.
For the first time since the awakening began...
She believed him.
To be continued....
