Scumbag Fate System-Chapter 13: Mindless Fun
Reinhard needed to know something.
Whether he can grasp what Rika told him last night and be able to manipulate his magic. He just tapped into his Sigil, but it felt instinctual.
But whether or not he can align his emotions, control, and Sigil together was the question.
The private rooms were smaller than the sparring halls outside.
But it still gave Reinhard plenty of room to maneuver and run around if he wanted. He smiled at the weapon rack that lined up the entire left wall.
Instead of normal firearms he would see when he was getting ready for a job. He saw swords, spears, war-axes, bow, and even a mace.
I guess it was too much to hope a gun would be here. He thought with a sigh before glancing over the thick padding.
And then he looked to the side to see a control panel mounted near the wall. It glowed with soft blue light with simple panels and looked easy to use. He walked straight to the weapon rack before moving his hand over the various weapons.
While he used mostly guns, he did test other weapons in his spare time and even trained sometimes with them. It wasn’t anything advanced but just enough he could use almost any weapon if it was lying around to end someone.
Reinhard’s hand stopped on a practice sword. And he picked it up before swinging it left and right for a bit. He smiled slightly before walking over towards the control panel and pressing on the panel.
Floating words appeared above the panel.
[SELECT ENEMY TYPE]
His heart sped up faster as he scrolled through the enemies.
"Fiends," he said clearly. "Start with wolves."
The air shimmered before darkness appeared on the floor. It began to compress at a point before rising up and taking shape. In front of him stood a black wolf with yellow eyes and black smoke leaking off from it.
He narrowed his eyes and reached for the magic the way Rika had described it. His emotion as the connector and focus as the guide. He didn’t have to manufacture the emotion.
The magic responded.
A faint blue light moved across his skin and into the sword, and the weight of it shifted in his grip. It felt lighter, or rather more present, like an extension of his arm rather than a tool in his hand. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
He filed the sensation carefully.
So that’s the alignment. Easier than expected but still good that I can do it A grin appeared on his face.
The wolf charged.
Reinhard moved.
The sword swept out.
But then wolf leaped, his sword passing under it before the beast’s jaws rushed towards his throat.
Reinhard vision returned to normal and saw the black wolf rushing towards him. As it reached, he did a fake swing while the black wolf jumped upwards and its eyes widened.
With a grin, he slashed down on the wolf that was still rising upwards. And the metal connected hard with a solid impact against the wolf’s phantom head.
The sounds of flesh echoed!
Before then the projection shattered instantly.
He relaxed while seeing the magic around fading away.
Alright, so my Sigil does work. And I can use my magic to enhance my body. But it does take a lot and will require practice to make it a reflex.
"Let’s keep this going. Two more wolves this time," he said as he tapped the panel again.
The darkness rushed to the center again before two wolves appeared. They growled at him before they began circling around instead of rushing at him. He smiled as he flared his magic over his body but waited for them to attack.
The wolves growled and charged at him.
The first wolf lunged from his left side but he swiftly blocked it with his sword. Before he felt his instincts screamed at him and the second wolf appeared from behind. He quickly grabbed the first wolf before twisting his body and hurling it to the second wolf. They crashed into each other before rolling on the ground together.
He charged over and thrust his sword down. It pierced through the head of the first wolf which burst into black smoke. Then he stepped back as the second wolf claws crashed down on the ground before him. And he swept out his sword, it sliced through the head of the wolf face.
And it burst into smoke.
His breathing came faster now and sweat formed on his forehead. But he didn’t want to stop the momentum as he scrolled through the panel and picked the next one.
"Knight," he said.
The darkness pooled on the ground before a humanoid shape emerged. The being was taller than Reinhard, armored, and wielding a dark sword.
The knight walked forward slowly. Each step echoed across the room.
But he met it halfway with a grin.
Both of them pulled back before crashing their sword at each other. The impact rang through his arms. His arm tingles. The knight’s sword was moving left but he quickly followed it as he slashed down on it, but the knight quickly blocked it.
The knight then slashed to the side, but Reinhard ducked, evading the overhead strike.
And then he thrust his sword out, piercing through its side. Before he pulled back and twisted his body to dodge the dark sword swinging down. Then he slashed through the knight face and shattered it into pieces.
Reinhard’s chest heaved while sweat ran down both temples and down his neck.
Reinhard laughed under his breath. "Okay... this world might not be so bad."
When was the last time he mindless hit something? Or just did something that was more fun than effort?
Regardless of his situation, it was fun to be able to use magic. While it wasn’t the standard one he saw on TV or in books. It was still nice to be able to enhance his physical body and even see into the future.
Above all else, it was a childhood dream come true to feel the rush of magic through his body.
He walked to the weapon rack and set the practice sword back carefully. It had served him well but now he needed to check out his close combat skills and see what he needed to improve.
His hands flexed before grabbing the combat gloves on a nearby shelfs. He put them on before tapping them together and then heading towards the panel.
"Two wolves again," he said clearly.
The projections formed and he met them with his fists.
The first wolf lunged.
But his left fist drove into its jaw.
The second came from behind but he spun around. Right elbow caught it in the side. Then his knee came up into the first wolf’s chest.
His body moved differently now.
It was faster.
Smoother.
Like it finally remembered how to fight.
He kept resetting the wolfs as he lost himself in simply letting his fist fly. Punch. Duck. Kick. The wolves came again and again.
An hour passed by before he realized it.
Reinhard stood in the center of the training room. Chest rising and falling hard. His muscles burned. His knuckles ached inside the thick gloves.
But he had a grin on his face. This body wasn’t as useless; it seemed to be made for combat. He pulled off the gloves slowly and then glance to the side to see a blue screen appear.
[Your Attribute has broken a threshold! Stamina: Average --> High]
Reinhard felt the change immediately.
A blue glow shined around him for a split second before vanishing. His body surged with a bit more energy as if the exhaustion he felt before was an illusion.
