Chapter 70 -70 Retreat_1

The castle had become shrouded in fog at some unknown point, and amid it, bubbling sounds with no discernible source began to rise. As Colin and the others rushed to the second floor of the castle, they immediately saw the battle the old butler’s group was engaged in.

At that moment, the old butler and his people were protecting Helena and others, fighting against a special type of “Beastified” patients who had somehow crawled in.

After Colin arrived, he exchanged no pleasantries, directly firing bullets that hit the “Beastified” in their vital parts, swiftly reaping them in combination with the others’ attacks.

“What happened?” The old butler frowned, forcefully kicking away a piece of soft, wriggling intestine that had fallen nearby.

“Not sure, all I can tell you is, don’t eat anything from now on.”

Colin shook his head; his stomach was very hungry, but it was still under control.

After speaking, he glanced out of the castle window and saw that the outside was enveloped in white fog, rendering everything beyond it invisible. Yet, from both inside and outside the castle, faint, tragic screams could be heard…

Clearly, the tragedy was not just happening here.

What’s more, among the bubbling sounds, Colin noticed that some distant white fog seemed to be transforming into a blue-black haze.

For a moment, Colin felt as if this blue-black haze were like digestive juices in the stomach, and they, like swallowed food, were in the process of being digested.

Without much time to consider, several shadows suddenly flew past the window—it was several ropes of crimson large intestines. Colin raised the iron sword he had picked up earlier in his right hand and slashed, severing the intestines.

At the same time, with a series of thuds, several heavy footsteps emanated from below the castle, causing those on the second floor to clearly feel the ground beneath their feet vibrating.

“Another heavy ‘Beastified’.”

Colin narrowed his eyes; these special types of “Beastified” were troublesome to deal with, as each individual’s intestine could attack at least a dozen meters away.

They were extremely agile and could automatically seek out enemies. A single one could produce more than three intestines, and severing them was futile. If one wasn’t careful and got strangled and dragged back, they’d instantly become the star of a restricted scene, too horrific to witness.

Colin’s bigger headache was that the fog was becoming thicker, and even within the castle, visibility faded beyond a ten-meter radius.

But there was also good news—there were still over three hours left.

If they could just get through these three hours, everything would get better.

At that moment, Calder suddenly roared, “No, we can’t stay here. The fog is too thick, the place too enclosed with too many entrances. If more ‘Beastified’ surround us, staying here will definitely lead to our deaths!”

“Where to?” asked the old butler, following up.

“My recommendation is the basement. It’s strongly built, those creatures can’t easily break through, and there’s only one narrow entrance. If we defend that entrance, we can hold out at least half a day…”

Before he could finish, Colin’s voice suddenly interrupted, “No, to the rooftop!”

“The rooftop? Are you sure?”

Colin glanced out the window; the lower terrain was already covered by fog, and the gurgling sounds were incessant, “The higher we go, the thinner the fog. If we stay too long in this fog, it will also cause problems.”

Without waiting for their agreement, Colin strode towards the stairwell and rushed up, with Tang Ken, Helena, and the others following closely behind.

The castle had a total of five floors and was incredibly large, being the second-largest building in Black Stone City after the Church and also one of the points where several bonfire columns were erected within the city.

Colin’s operation went rather smoothly, as he quickly resolved several cases of “Beastification” with Time Stop and made his way upward to the top.

Luckily, there didn’t seem to be any soldiers transformed by Beast Transformation Syndrome above, and as the mist dissipated, visibility returned, revealing the guards stationed at the top floor.

There had been issues here too, but they were not serious and had already been addressed.

It wasn’t until Colin reached the rooftop that he realized the mist thinned out the higher he climbed, probably due to the bonfire that lit up the entire night, which was nearly devoid of fog in its vicinity.

At that moment, Colin breathed a sigh of relief, knowing he had finally arrived at the right place.

The top of Black Stone City’s castle was equally spacious, easily accommodating the activities of a thousand people, with a bonfire at the center reaching a height of over a hundred meters.

A large Red Combustible Crystal was embedded at the top of the fire pillar, and the light from the burning crystal cleared a large area around it of fog.

Upon arriving, he didn’t waste any more words and began defending the castle rooftop alongside everyone else.

With the light dispelling the fog, visibility was clear, and the flying intestines were no longer a significant threat, as their agility diminished with distance from the main body.

Nevertheless, as time passed, some of the “Beastifications” seemed unable to sit still any longer, bursting out from the mist to fight with their bodies, making the battle increasingly difficult.

“Huff…”

Colin, with a numb hand, cleaved a Second Order “Beastification” in half at the waist and momentarily felt dizzy.

Hours of continuous high-intensity battle were taking their toll on him too.

By his side, the old butler, Calder, and others were covered in injuries, their hands shaking violently as they held their swords, barely able to grip the hilts.

As for the rest, the casualties were even more severe, with only a hundred or two remaining of the several hundred soldiers that were originally on the rooftop.

“Lord Colin, did you say someone is coming to reinforce us soon? Will they make it in time?” the old butler, working with others to kill a rotund Second Order “Beastification,” couldn’t help but ask.

At this very moment, they had no idea what was happening outside the castle, only inferring from the diminishing screams and the growing number of enemies that the situation was likely not good.

However, before Colin could reply, a thunderous disturbance suddenly came from afar, followed by a clear or blurred image that appeared in everyone’s mind—

A colossal limb emerged from beneath a pile of ruins, stretching upwards.

It had skin with a stone-like texture, in shades of blue and black, grotesquely elongated, like an outsized human hand, stretching over a dozen meters long.

With its emergence, a terrifying superior presence swept over like a sandstorm, devouring everything.

Merely due to the arrival of this presence, Colin and the others, far away as they were, felt their bodies stiffen, as if their souls were about to be pulled out of their bodies.

Suddenly, Colin’s pupils contracted, and a brief vision of a not-so-distant future surged into his mind. Without stopping to think, he shouted to the others with a look of horror:

“Run! Follow me to the other side!”

And just three seconds after they had started running, a huge blue-black hand suddenly descended from the sky.
