SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire-Chapter 39 - Lost Contact_1
Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Lost Contact_1
Chapter 39 -39 Lost Contact_1
“Yes.”
Colin agreed decisively, after all, there was no use holding onto the creature that had turned into black pus on the ground.
After making the decision.
In the air, a transparent vortex appeared.
Under its suction, every drop of liquid and debris from the corpse on the ground was sucked in and disappeared.
“One Thousand Points, plus an item with the corresponding properties of this creature.”
“Do all the items with special effects within Bonfire Company come about this way?”
“Capturing various anomalies and then using their powers to create items through special means?”
Colin stood still, observing the lingering traces around him, with a thoughtful look in his eyes.
He glanced at the Golden Card in his hand, not knowing what had been contained to create it.
It must not be something easy to handle.
Shaking his head and collecting his thoughts, Colin’s gaze shifted to the ground where the Bone Spur had played a significant role.
He did not rush to pick it up, after all, it had just been soaking in the pus. Who knew if it was contaminated with viruses?
Colin cautiously took out the “Analytical Lens” again, pinched the top and bottom of the lens with his right hand, brought it to his left eye, and gave the Bone Spur a close-up view.
[A dagger made from the simple processing of the remains of a female clergy member after her death. If stabbed by it, one would experience the horror she faced in life, continually being infused with foul water until they felt like they were dragged into the deep sea, suffocating to death.]
[Holding it for too long will also cause the body to swell gradually, and within thirty minutes, a slight mishap could lead to death from organ failure triggered by the swelling.]
“There’s no mention of contamination or the like, so it should be okay. I just wonder why the description seems much more detailed than before.”
Colin put away the “Analytical Lens,” speculating that the reason might be that he had come to understand more about this world, so he knew more.
However…
Was the female clergy member mentioned above Talisa?
Was she drowned?
No… simply being drowned didn’t seem to warrant this kind of outcome.
Colin wondered curiously for a moment, then cautiously stepped forward to pick up the object and put it into the “Storage Room.”
Then, he turned and glanced back at the church behind him.
There was still no stir.
“The resurrection bar mustn’t have finished yet.”
Colin pursed his lips, then walked back into the church.
At this moment, there was no change in the flames inside the church, but all the corpses had turned to ash, the ashes of nearly two hundred bodies piled up like a small hill.
And outside the Bonfire, wisps of ash were gathering and dispersing, seemingly coalescing into a human silhouette.
Seeing that the resurrection wouldn’t happen anytime soon, Colin first closed the door and then found a place to sit after looking around. He took out some food from his pocket and silently dealt with the negative effect of the Golden Card “temporal perception disorder.”
Having used the ability twice in a row, symptoms were slightly pronounced, as if time was speeding up or slowing down. Even the short walk into the door felt like several days had passed, or in the blink of an eye, it seemed as though time had flown by in the space of a dream.
But looking at Task Five on the clock… only two minutes had actually gone by.
Fortunately, with a few uses, the symptoms were manageable, and the negative effects slowly wore off as time went on…
Twenty actual minutes later, there was some movement inside the church. Colin, who was sitting by the altar, turned his eyes and saw that in front of the Bonfire, the ashen silhouette had finally coalesced into Li Ming, who looked utterly bewildered and at a loss standing before the massive Bonfire.
Touching his neck with lingering fear, it seemed as if his death was just a moment ago.
“Reviving takes about half an hour?”
Colin calculated the time, then stuffed the chocolate into his mouth and stood up, looking at the other person, “How do you feel?”
Li Ming now looked to be in his twenties or thirties, with brown hair and a medium build that leaned toward the shorter side. His skin was dark, probably no taller than one meter seventy.
“Not too bad, just feeling a bit off in a way that’s hard to describe, but it doesn’t affect my movement…” Li Ming twisted his neck.
“That’s probably something the company did on purpose to keep you from getting too immersed here and then not being able to distinguish between reality and the Other World when you get back. Anyway, since it doesn’t affect anything, there’s no need to worry about it, but that’s just my guess. I’m not sure if that’s really the case.”
Colin gave a simple explanation, but to be honest, if one stayed here too long and then suddenly returned, it really could happen.
By then, Li Ming might desperately run down the road, screaming: I can’t tell, I really can’t tell which is real…
Nevertheless, Colin didn’t dwell on it too much and briefly introduced himself to the other person.
Only then did he realize…
This guy apparently hadn’t recognized his identity as an Agent of the Bonfire, and that’s why he used the title “Captain.”
“Captain, what are we going to do next?” asked Li Ming.
Colin didn’t let on but simply said, “You stay here and guard the Bonfire. I should go look for the other colleagues. I have a feeling they might have run into some trouble.”
While speaking, he silently sensed the positions of the other two in his mind. The signal of one was intermittent; the messages were sent but he didn’t know if they were received since there was no response.
The other’s signal couldn’t even be described as intermittent, more like ‘broken broken broken broken’; they had basically been “out of contact” from the start.
Colin couldn’t even pinpoint the latter’s location precisely.
He could only be sure that the two were generally in the same direction, though how close or far they were was something he would likely only find out after he got there.
“But come to think of it, is the signal quality related to the distance?”
Colin pursed his lips, feeling that the technology of Bonfire Company sometimes seemed impressive, but at other times, lacking…
Especially this “Descent Protocol” – to say it wasn’t impressive would be an understatement; it could cross who knows how many thousands of light-years to transport a person to a strange world.
To say it was impressive, well, it seemed like every time it would mishandle the transport…
“No problem, but Captain…”

After a pause, Li Ming asked, “Shouldn’t we stick together to look for people at a time like this?”
“No need, they’re not close by. Even on my own, it might take half a day to get there; if I take you along, it would likely take even longer.”
Colin turned down Li Ming’s suggestion, because unlike him, Li Ming couldn’t endure a long journey and maintain his condition without rest.
If he brought him along, they might not even make it by tomorrow…
And most importantly, the “Book of Fate” predicted smooth sailing ahead, so there was nothing to be afraid of.
It was better to act efficiently in everything.
After making arrangements, Colin prepared to leave, but at that moment, he noticed Li Ming standing to one side looking troubled as if he had something to say.
Colin directly spoke up, “If you have something to say, just say it.”
“Captain, do you have any food with you?”
“You didn’t bring any food?”
Seeing him nod, Colin frowned. Hadn’t the situation been explained during the meeting? How could he not bring any food?
However, without making it difficult for the other person, Colin pulled a Snickers from his pocket and asked, “What did you bring with you?”
After speaking and seeing the assortment of items Li Ming took out of his ten-liter space, Colin fell silent.
