Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead-Chapter 132 - 131: Her Loyalty Has No Limits
A carriage pulled over at the gates of Lancaster Mansion. Inside it was Marina, Eleanore’s personal maid.
Early this morning, Marina resigned from her job at Sinclair Mansion. She gave herself one whole night to ponder over this and then had arrived at this conclusion. She was going to live with her mistress forever, no matter what.
While she was about to leave, Hael had called her in his office. When she entered, she found her lord busy chatting with his madam about a few things. It looked like the duchess was trying to convince him to do something and although he didn’t want to do it, he had agreed anyway.
"You are leaving with just your things?" He asked, when he saw her standing at the entrance of the door.
"Yes, my lord." She bows and offers her greetings.
"What about your mistress’ stuff?"
"Should I take those too?" Marina was a bit confused with that hostile tone of his.
"Yes, I want to empty my mansion with her things." He replies, pressing his temples as he looks away.
Stella got out of her Sofa and walked to the marina. "What the duke is trying to say is being along with Eleanore’s stuff with you. She will need that. Also her medicines. I heard her asthma pump is still here. That’s dangerous. What if she needs that?" She places her hand on her shoulders, casually.
"Since you would be there with her, we are truly assured." Her face melts into a smile and Marina accepts it.
"I understand, Madam." Marina bows.
"Yes."
Marina turns to leave but stops midway. She swirls around back to the new Madam and whispers into her ears. "My lady had prepared the staff for you. Not everyone here will like you madam. Thus, choose Celine as your personal maid. She is a bit soft and naive but if things go right, she can be as loyal as me."
"Thank you."
Fortunately, the rest of the things were already prepared by Eleanore, as if she somehow knew something odd was going to happen. Does the news in today’s paper state the truth? Was everything her mistress said yesterday true?
She could only wonder, for she had no right to ask or even think about it. Marina knew that she was a mere loyal maid of her mistress and that she should never forget her place.
As she stepped out, Marina felt a wave of uneasiness in her stomach. She could feel a familiar cold gaze, more like a glare from the window on the first floor. It was the Grand Duke.
It was still hard to digest that this person is now her mistress’ husband. When he is the same person who forced her to betray her mistress. That was the most regrettable moment of her life. One she could never forget and one that this monster would never let her forget, for she was now in his den, and she must remain strong to be able to save her mistress from him.
The butler at the door asked for her identification, and as he questioned Lilith appeared coincidently. Lilith immediately recognised Marina who had accompanied the grand duchess, two months ago.
"Miss Marina, it is a pleasure to see you here. Have you come to serve the Madam?" She asked, joy spilling out of her eyes.
"Yes." Marina answered, as a number of bags were brought in by the Sinclair Family Knights. She notices Lilith’s eyes on them and instantly she explains the situation to her. "The duke has sent my mistress luggage and dowry."
"Ah! I see. Come in please." She says, but Marina looks skeptical. Her gaze travels to the old butler and then to the head maid.
"Oh! Don’t mind him, Renold has become old. His memory power has gotten a bit weak too." She jokes.
"Lilith?!" The old butler Quickly shuts her up. "Apologies, Miss." He turns to Marina. "Please, come in."
Marina walks in and Lilith guides her to the grand duke’s room. "Madam would be happy to see you." She says, when they reach the door. "She hasn’t opened her mouth since morning or set a foot outside. Perhaps seeing you would make you feel alive."
"What does that mean?" Marina was confused. She instantly caught on that Lilith knew something she didn’t.
"I cannot say. If you ask the madam, she might though." She smiles and then opens the door. "Get in."
Marina hesitates a bit, her eyes lingering over the head maid looking for an answer. However, she soon gives up and enters the room.
Eleanore was sitting in the same spot all day. She hadn’t moved for either food or tea. It looked like she was pondering on something very difficult and had no time to spare for these useless tasks.
"Lady Eleanore." Marina called her, but didn’t receive any reply from Eleanore.
"My Lady—" She walked closer to her. "Lady Eleanore?"
Eleanore heard it this time, she turned to Marina evading those self destructive thoughts. She was shocked at first and then a sudden joy rushed through her face.
Out of nowhere, she got out of her seat and threw her arms around Marina’s shoulder. She didn’t let her go for a while and Marina also didn’t wish to end this heartfelt reunion.
"I am so happy to see you." She said, "Did you come here to visit me?"
"No, I have come to serve you." She replies, while Eleanore pulls herself out of that heartfelt embrace. Completely shocked to hear that.
"But why? You had the perfect chance to be free from me."
"I do not wish for that anymore, My Lady." She kneels to the ground, elegantly spreading her flowy skirt on the ground, and bending her head a little low to the ground. "I will always be your loyal maid. Till my last breath." She looks up. "Will accept me, My Lady?"
Eleanore turns quiet, unable to make up her mind.
"I apologise."
"What?" It came out of nowhere.
"I called you with the wrong title. I was meaning to call you Madam, now that you are the grand duchess of the kingdom." She explains.
Eleanore smiles softly. "I didn’t turn silent because of that. I was just questioning your life choices."
"Why?" Marina didn’t understand a word she said.
"You are foolish, Marina. If you serve me, you will be seen with disdain by the other staff in this house."
"That is nothing new, I am used to it. You see, no one truly likes me in Sinclair mansion because I have always been so rude." Marina answers confidently.
"I see. It’s good to have your back." Eleanore helps her back on her feet.
That’s when a certain invader entered the room.
