__

Yesterday was the wedding of the sweetheart couple of Seraphine Kingdom. It was an amazing wedding of the year. The day had filled my heart with warmth but that isn’t something we didn’t know.

What we all didn’t know was that yesterday was also the day, when another couple that had been on the gossip charts for years got married. Yes, I am talking about the most hated couple of the nation, Eleanore Sinclair and Grand Duke Caelestis Lancaster.

In the morning, out of nowhere I received a call from the knights of Sinclair mansion, asking me to be present at the mansion as quickly as possible. Turns out the young duke’s sister was missing since early in the morning, that day.

The Sinclair’s had decided to terminate the marriage and were about to send a search party to look for his precious sister.

However, when I reached there, I found Lady Eleanore standing at the doorstep of her mansion, with someone I couldn’t quite recognise at first, until he talked. The man standing beside her was Grand Duke Caelestis Lancaster

The two of them had gotten married yesterday, in the shadows of night and had shamelessly appeared in front of Duke Hael Sinclair. The only Lady of the house was still in her wedding dress and it looked like they came directly from a church.

While they argued, the reason behind this step was revealed. The two had a bet between them. The result of which was this marriage. Eleanore Sinclair had used her own blood brother to get rid of Baroness Stella. So that she could marry her years-long crush Grand Duke Caelestis Lancaster.

The shame on Duke Hael Sinclair’s face was ——

_______

Eleanore couldn’t read anymore. She crumpled the paper into a ball and threw it away. The ball crawled and landed into the feet of Sir Victor, who had just entered the room.

Victor was not home for two whole days, as he was visiting some sites. When he left, he had thought that nothing would go wrong in his absence. He was happy that Hael was getting married and all this nonsense of his Lord would finally come to end.

When he came back last night, he was proved wrong.

Instead of returning to Lancaster mansion, he decided to visit the wedding. The vows were done by then and the couple were about to kiss. But there was something strange.

The first thing noticed was Eleanore’s absence and then that sad fake smile tugged on both the groom and bride’s face. Even the atmosphere didn’t match with this happening event.

Victor went forward and asked Hael what was going on. Scared that something might have happened to Eleanore. However, what he got in return was silence.

Hael couldn’t face him. He simply left the garden, where the wedding took place instead of staying for the celebration. In his place, Stella explained it all.

At first he was very angry at Caelestis and Eleanore. Like Stella, he also believed that there was more to it than just the shabby explanation they received.

In the early morning, the gossip sheet in the Seraphine Story time had shocked him. This article wouldn’t have only shaken him but the whole capital too.

He was going to wait till afternoon, but couldn’t compose himself and rushed to her. In the room of his lord he found her sitting on a couch, staring outside that small window. Her face was laced with anger and self pity. She wasn’t happy with her marriage, it was clearly written on her face.

Then why? Why did she marry this man?

Victor loved Eleanore. Just until a few months ago, she was like her dead sister but it changed soon after. Along with this feeling, Victor also knew that Eleanore would never be his. He knew it, ye couldn’t help himself from falling for her.

He was determined that if she ever fell in love with someone and got married, he would support her. He would stand by her side and protect her forever as her younger brother, just like how he would have done for his elder sister, who is no longer alive.

But then this reality shook him. He couldn’t believe his eyes and ears and his heart was not ready to accept this fact. For at least he knew how much Eleanore hated his lord.

"What have you done?" He asks, as he walks in front of her.

Eleanore’s gaze fell on his black cap toe shoes. They were probably recently polished and were shining brightly. Then her eyes slowly travelled to his worried face. Just like everyone else, he came here today in search of answers.

Yet like everyone else, he wouldn’t receive anything. Even if Eleanore opened up her mouth she wouldn’t be able to reveal the truth.

"You do not love him." He reminds her.

"Don’t speak in my stead." She looks away. Back to the small window, which was way too near to the ground. She was not used to living on a floor so close to the ground.

"I don’t believe a thing that damn paper said." He throws away the set of his own newspaper outside the window.

"Too bad. That is the truth though."

"It isn’t. I know it."

Victor kneels to the ground and grabs her palm. "You are like my elder sister, Lady Eleanore." His eyes said everything.

It was like an open book, having everything written clearly without any twisted words. He loved her from the bottom of his heart. He could picture his sister in her and she could see it clearly. A man so plain and pure, that the lie wouldn’t even dare to come out of her false mouth.

"I am younger than you." Eleanore corrects her, as her stone heart melts.

"No, you are my elder sister. You have always been. Ever since I saw you, I knew it was Gabrielle. There was a time I had difficulty believing my eyes. You look so much like her, if this golden hair turns brown." He laughs. "Lady Eleanore, even if the duke leaves your side, I won’t. Believe me."

He sounded almost too convincing. Still, she couldn’t bring herself to believe him. "I can’t. My own brother is not with me."

Her eyes welled up with tears. "I told him a few nonsense things and he believed it." Her voice cracks. "Not once did he ask something like, ’Elle? I have heard enough of your lies. Now where is my truth?’ He believed all that."

Victor rubs her palm over her hand. "I know. I understand."

"No, you don’t."

"Elle?" He calls her. "Tell me now. I have heard enough of your lies. Where is my set of truth?" He repeats her words, making her bawl like a child.

She rests her forehead on the back of his palm and continues crying. Those were the words, her ears were dying to hear but now one said. The sadness bottled up in her poured out like an overflowing well and it didn’t stop until it was half empty.

"Elle." Victor, lovingly stroked her head, as he urged her to say the truth. "Will you not tell me now?"

Eleanore, looks up. The sclera of her eyes had turned red, trying to burst out and tell everything to him. But she restricted them, her will so strong that it couldn’t rebel against it.

"I can’t." She answers.

"Why?"

"Because if I do. Everything would be ruined and I don’t want that." Her voice sounded so feeble at that moment, that he couldn’t even think about posturing her anymore.

Instead of asking more, he pulled her into a hug, helping her drain that remaining well of emotions in her. Until she could feel better.

Last night, Eleanore had thought hard and around. If sacrificing her own happiness to bring joy and peace in the world, wouldn’t that be good?

If she backs out and Caelestis loses it. There would be screams of agony, blood and loss everywhere. Would she be able to bear it? Would she be able to live with this regret, that she had a choice. If she wanted she could have stopped it all? There would have been no war, no dictator. If only he had listened to Caelestis and had taken all his tourcher in place of Stella.

When she asked those questions to herself, she had a clear answer. No matter how hard she’d try, she would never be able to escape that guild. That would petrify her forever. She wouldn’t be able to bear the weight of that.

Thus, she concluded that this was now his life. She must live with this man from now on. But that didn’t mean she had no hope. The system was her only hope now. The happy ending of the leads have been achieved and once this slow system processes it, she could leave here.

So, she told herself to hold on.

"I must hold on, just for now."

However, Eleanore was not at all prepared for what was to come next.
