Chapter 74: Why can’t you sleep over at my house."

He was really good at hiding it but not from Luo Shih. She could feel something was wrong but she hadn’t pinpointed the issue yet. Luo Muchen took Qie Xieling’s cell phone and cut the call before saying, "Why can’t you sleep over at my house."

Qie Xieling’s eyes widened thinking he was probably hallucinating. Why the hell would Luo Muchen invite him to his house? He chortled at what he thought was a joke but when he saw that Luo Muchen was serious his laughter died down.

"My father will kill me," said Qie Xieling but he underestimated Luo Muchen’s determination.

He gave Qie Xieling back his cell phone and said, "He doesn’t have to know," with his fingers brushing past Qie Xieling’s thumb.

Qie Xieling’s nerves tense slightly as a wave of numbness spread all over his body. He suddenly felt like Eve being charmed by a snake to eat the forbidden fruit. The temptation was a little too strong for a rule-breaker like him. The prospect of not getting caught was even more alluring to him.

"Fine, but we have to pass by my house first. Oh, and I need to finish my milkshake," he said and Luo Muchen smiled bashfully.

Luo Shih couldn’t hear what they were saying but what she was seeing had her intuition spiking like crazy. She watched as Qie Xieling walked over and pick up his milkshake. While he was sucking on the straw Luo Muchen said, "Ma, he will be sleeping over tonight but we need to pass by his house first."

Luo Shih, "..."

This wasn’t a question at all. It was like he was just informing her and didn’t need her permission. Well, he didn’t really need permission from her because she had always told him that he should just tell her if a friend was sleeping over which never happened not even once.

She instinctively wanted to say no because her gut was telling her that something was definitely up with these two but the look in her son’s eyes had her shutting her mouth.

"Okay. I will inform the cleaning auntie to prepare the guest room," she said before hastily getting up to make a call.

Qie Xieling was a little surprised when he heard this. When he slept over at Bo Ailun’s they didn’t need to sleep in separate rooms. They would squeeze into one bed as that was what a sleepover was all about. If not one bed then they should at least be in one room. Though he thought so Qie Xieling didn’t take it to heart. He just thought that’s how things were in the Luo family home.

Luo Shih seemed especially nice to Qie Xieling. She made dinner for the three of them which seldom happened. She rarely cooked but today she made some grilled hake for them and spinach. She thought the boy who had eaten a whole lot of sweet desserts two hours ago wouldn’t eat much but she soon found out that he was a bottomless pit. He finished all his dinner and even had fruit before he said he was full.

Luo Shih, "..."

Unable to hold back she asked, "Are you an alien? You eat-."

"Ma!" said Luo Muchen fearing she would offend him with her words. She was acting nice but Luo Muchen could sense subtle hints of hostility coming from her towards Qie Xieling.

Qie Xieling had no idea that Luo Shih had it out for him. She genuinely seemed very nice.

Luo Shih was about to let it go when she leaned forward and sniffed. "What is that? Why does it smell like peac-," she said and Luo Muchen cut her off.

"We are going to do practice questions. If you need anything text me." Luo Shih’s eye twitched while watching Luo Muchen dragging Qie Xieling away.

Ten minutes later she was sitting on her couch with a glass of white wine and a brainless television drama playing in the background. She wasn’t paying attention to it. Instead, she was fighting the urge to go upstairs and check what those two were doing. Since her son had never had a sleepover she wasn’t certain if her reaction was appropriate.

She picked up her cell phone and dialled Hei Xiwen’s number. Hei Xiwen was out eating Korean barbecue with his underlings when his cell phone rang.

He chased everyone out of the private room when he saw it was her calling. As soon as the room fell silent he answered, "Hey baby. Miss me already."

Luo Shih, "..."

"Who are you calling baby shameless bastard," she said but her lips were quirked slightly.

Hei Xiwen scratched his head feeling somewhat helpless. He did everything that a boyfriend does but she would never admit it.

Luo Shih lay down on the couch before sighing. Hei Xiwen instantly knew something was up so he took off the pieces of grilled pork that were about to burn while asking, "What’s wrong."

"You have a niece, right?" she asked and he hummed in agreement before she continued asking, "Then when they have a sleepover do they leave the door open or closed?"

Hei Xiwen was a little confused. Why would it matter unless they are boys thus he chuckled while saying, "Is Ah-Chen having a sleepover with a girl? If it’s a boy why would it matter? It’s not like he is gay."

Luo Shih, "!!!"

"Peaches and cream," she whispered before she suddenly sat up and repeated again, "Peaches and fuckin cream." After saying this she climbed over the couch and almost fell over.

Hei Xiwen thought that Luo Shih hadn’t vented in a while that’s why she was overly fixated on her son’s matters. He shamelessly suggested, "How about we hang out tonight," but the sound of a call being cut rang in his ears. The woman was gone.

Luo Shih was rushing down the corridor barefooted. She knocked on Luo Muchen’s bedroom door once and pushed the door open. But when she thought of the scene she might see she closed her eyes before yelling, "Leave the door open."

Qie Xieling who was messing with Luo Muchen’s gaming console, "..."

AN: His actual gaming console you dirty-minded humans.

Luo Muchen was so embarrassed that he wanted to bury his head underground like an ostrich. He could probably guess that his mother already knew by now who was his crush. He just didn’t think she would find out this fast.

"Mum, let’s talk," he said before pulling her out of the bedroom. When she opened her eyes and saw that the bed hadn’t been slept on and everything seemed innocent she was so embarrassed. After this, she would be lucky if her son told her anything about his personal life.

She had always prided herself as an understanding parent but now she was starting to exhibit the traits of a helicopter parent. The image she worked very hard to create came crashing down the moment she found out who her son’s true crush was.
