Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 569: Attracting attention
The two fell into silence for a long time with the only sound coming from the stereo. Qie Xieling felt his phone vibrating in his pocket.
This time Luo Muchen didn’t call but messaged him. Qie Xieling pursed his lips his thumb hovering above the message notification on the phone screen. He nervously tapped the message after a moment of hesitation. Luo Muchen had written five consecutive messages. The first one was from the time he hadn’t picked up.
Muchen: You are probably still sleeping. Call me when you are awake.
Qie Xieling glanced at his father sitting next to him and couldn’t bring himself to call him right now. He could only lean against the car door while typing back.
HandsomeLin: I can’t talk right now.
HandsomeLin: I am with my father.
Qie Xieling scrolled down and he was about to read the other messages when his phone vibrated again. Luo Muchen had responded so fast like he had been waiting on his phone for him.
Muchen: Okay. Can I see you today?
Qie Xieling’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he bit his thumb. He hadn’t expected Luo Muchen to ask him that right now. He took some time to think about how to reject him without making him feel bad. He really wasn’t ready to meet up with him yet.
Muchen: Just for a few minutes.
Qie Xieling felt like his heart had been jabbed with an arrow. He covered his eyes with his hand, feeling a myriad of emotions. He felt a surge of excitement and nervousness at the same time.
HandsomeLin: I can’t today but I promise tomorrow.
This time Luo Muchen didn’t respond as fast as before. Qie Xieling thought he was angry so he hastily placated him.
HandsomeLin: Chen Chen, don’t be mad, okay? I will treat you to a meal.
Luo Muchen wasn’t angry but anxious. He was just staring at the screen of his phone thinking of a way to tell Qie Xieling not to hate him and that whatever it is that he did wrong he would do anything to make up for it.
Who would have thought Qie Xieling would misunderstand him? Not only that but he also called him Chen Chen. Luo Muchen’s brow arched his curiosity about what happened in that game growing stronger. He bit his lower lip and replied back.
Muchen: I am not mad.
Muchen: I just wanted to see you.
Muchen: Tomorrow is also okay.
Luo Muchen only meant to type one message but he began typing nervously and he couldn’t stop himself.
Qie Xieling was about to reply when his father said, "We are here. Let’s buy something for Ailun."
Qie Xieling quickly locked his phone screen acting like a thief who had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "Okay," he said before unbuckling his seat belt. Qie Ranzhe couldn’t help but chuckle softly seeing him act like this.
When they got out of the car he draped his arm around his son’s shoulders. The two of them walked into the grocery store and Qie Xieling grabbed a small trolley. He sanitised it and hurried to catch up with his father.
The two of them didn’t take long inside the store but the impact of having them in there was long-lasting. They were both tall and handsome attracting attention where ever they went. "Which flavour does he like?" asked Qie Ranzhe while standing in front of a freezer.
"I will ask him." Qie Xieling had his head lowered trying to ask Bo Ailun which flavour and brand he wanted when he heard the soft sound of a woman’s voice. He looked up and saw a stunning woman with a generic face like that of an internet celebrity trying to flirt with his father.
She wasn’t so blatant but anyone could recognise a bitch in heat from a distance. He pressed his tongue on his cheek and scoffed.
This was why his father never went grocery shopping ever or at least not by himself. He would either buy things online or he would have the butler do it. That’s because was too eye-catching and attracted butterflies wherever he went.
Before Bo Ailun even replied to his message Qie Xieling said, "Father, he said he wants vanilla. The brand doesn’t matter."
His father who had a cold expression grabbed the vanilla ice cream while the woman turned to look at him. He showed a fake smile but his eyes were just as cold as his father’s.
"You two look alike," she said while accidentally on purpose brushing against Qie Ranzhe.
"Oh and Dad said don’t forget to buy lubricant and candles," he continued to say before pushing the cart away.
The woman, "???"
Qie Ranzhe initially had on a look of shock but soon he was laughing softly. He followed after his son leaving behind the woman whose worldview had been overturned. Qie Xieling pushed the cart to the till and began taking out the snacks and fruit basket he chose for Bo Ailun.
Soon vanilla ice cream moved past him on the conveyor belt at the till followed by a bottle of lubricant and a box of red scented candles. He suddenly looked up and saw his father suppressing his laughter.
"I wasn’t serious," he said while trying to grab them and put them back but his father stopped him.
"You said your dad asked for this so I will buy it," said before shoving him forward so he could pay.
Qie Xieling, "..."
The pair of father and son walked out of the store each holding a shopping bag. Qie Ranzhe placed the bags in the boot before getting into the driver’s seat.
Qie Xieling licked his lips a little anxious. If his father tells his dad what he said he might get into trouble. He would be punished by kneeling with his hands raised high. Sure his grandma would rescue him but there was no guarantee that his dad won’t hold a grudge.
"You aren’t serious," he said failing to find the right words. Qie Ranzhe let out a throaty chuckle while pulling the car out of the parking space onto the road.
Qie Xieling took off his sunglasses and rubbed his face vigorously while mumbling to himself, I am a dead man."
"Can we stop at the drive-through?" Qie Xieling asked casually after a while of driving. He smiled and pointed to a sign ahead. "There is one ahead."
