Chapter 546: Scum king

Because she had been roughed up and her hair a mess, Qie Xieling couldn’t recognise her at first. She was wailing like she had truly lost him and she had finally found him.

The truth was that she had long recognised him in the second round of the martial arts competition. She had heard someone talking about the competition and they had mentioned his name.

Most of these noble ladies didn’t like attending such gruesome events. They would take the time to shop and do their hair and nails at these garden parties.

On the pretense of bringing her husband some snacks she came to the arena and sure enough, the son she had discarded in fear that the truth of his conception would be revealed was standing at the platform beating a man twice his size. She wanted to tuck her tail and retreat in the shadows but someone whispered in her husband’s ear that the son he mourned every year was actually not his and that he was in the arena. This young master of the Zi family was a dandy as mentioned before but when he got angry he would be quite rough.

He slapped her hard and she quickly used Qie Xieling as her defence. After all her son was to take the throne so what would happen to the Zi family if his mother was beaten to a pulp? She ran out of the courtyard and came here to see her son but who would have thought they wouldn’t let her in? When the young master found out that she had been at the gate for three days and no one let her in he sent people to drag her back. Out of desperation, she forced her way in and she was roughed up by the guards. The elders who hadn’t figured out her worth to their King didn’t dare be too rough with her. They wanted to put her in the dungeon and then bring this matter up later. But she screamed like she was about to be slaughtered.

Before she could reach Qie Xieling, Elder Song tripped her and grabbed her by the hair and forced her to look at Qie Xieling with a blade on her throat.

With a face brimming with arrogance, she yelled, "Let me go. Do you know who I am? I am the King’s mother! You let me go."

Qie Xieling tapped the armrest of his seat just watching her put on this caring mother act. He gestured for Elder Song to let her go and listened to her speak nonsense. With a tear-stricken face, she put on a show like a mother who had really lost her precious baby.

"... son, is that really you? My heart has been torn apart ever since I lost you. What happened to you? I returned to the market and couldn’t find you. Thank the heavens. Thank Bhudda. They protected you and watched over you," she said while crawling over to his feet.

"Really?" asked Qie Xieling with a hint of sacarsim.

"Yes yes... I have been looking for you everywhere," she said her voice brittle. Qie Xieling now understood how she was able to scam her way into the Zi family. She was really good at lying making an easily trusting person believe her.

"Well, it’s quite sad. All those years of abuse from the Bi family and working at the brothel I thought mother didn’t want me," he said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. His eyes were dark and terrifying.

"Yes, mother has been looking everywhere. I went up to the temple every month to pray for your safety," she said and Qie Xieling stayed silent for a while but the entire main hall was filled with a suffocating pressure that made the elders tremble.

Damn, they wished Luo Muchen was here to appease the King’s anger that was on the verge of erupting. They couldn’t help but wonder where was that little lover that had been on the king’s side all this time. Where was he when he was needed?

"Can you believe it? I thought that my mother was afraid her secret would come out so she abandoned me in a place infamously known for slave merchants," he said and the woman’s pupils trembled but she tried to compose herself.

"I would never," she said only for Qie Xieling to beckon Elder Song over. He whispered instructions and Elder Song bowed in understanding.

"I understand. Let’s get Mother settled in and this son will visit you soon so we can catch up," he said and the woman heaved a sigh but when she looked up she caught a glimpse of Qie Xieling’s sly smile.

Her heart shook and she suddenly had a bad premonition. "Madam please follow me," said Elder Song and the woman rose to her feet her knees trembling like a reed.

When she stumbled Elder Song grabbed her arm tightly and led her out of the main hall. Qie Xieling thought she could keep Master Zi company in the underground dungeon.

"Is there anything else troubling my elders?" he asked ready to go find his man.

"Uh yes... Your Majesty. Should we bring your new concubine to the east courtyard? When we move the palace we can prepare a palace for him," said Elder Xuan.

Qie Xieling, "???"

"Excuse me?" he exclaimed and Jolie sitting next to him bit through her apple before saying,

"Bo Ailun."

Qie Xieling almost choked on his saliva. "Who said he is my concubine?!"

Damn, don’t let Luo Muchen hear that. Wouldn’t his man die of jealousy?

Qie Xieling had no idea that the rumour had already spread everywhere. Even the boys who herd goats were talking about it.

The elders were shocked. They thought their king was a decent ger but it turns out they were wrong. He was a little scummy. He wouldn’t even give his little lover a status.

Qie Xieling saw the way they were looking at him so he asked Jolie. "Why are they looking at me like I am scum?"

"That’s because you are. You didn’t even give Bo Bo status. You just used him and didn’t even promote him to become a concubine. You are tarnishing his reputation," said Jolie finding this funny.

"He is not... ugh. Who started this baseless rumour? If this reaches Chen Chen’s ears what will he think of me," he said and Elder Xuan said without thinking,

"Your majesty... he knows."

Qie Xieling, "..."
