Chapter 50: creditor here to collect debts

Qie Xieling was about to remind Bo Ailun of the promise he made to Luo Muchen when the bell rang.

"All students report to assembly in the next ten minutes. Latecomers will be dealt with accordingly," announced a Male teacher through the intercom and Qie Xieling looked up at the speaker.

When he looked away he suddenly met Luo Muchen’s gaze and his heart jolted for some reason.

Luo Muchen’s cold eyes softened instantly upon seeing him. Qie Xieling was hoping things of the past would be long forgotten but from the look on Luo Muchen’s face, he hadn’t forgotten at all.

Qie Xieling now understood the meaning of the words ’saved by the bell’. He followed Bo Ailun out of class and joined the crowd to walk in the corridor towards the assembly hall.

While he was walking he couldn’t help but feel a biting chill on his back but he didn’t dare look back. When they entered the assembly hall they stood where their class should stand and the cold sensation on his back finally dispersed.

That’s because Luo Muchen who was about to enter the hall was suddenly bumped hard in the shoulder by this group of older boys.

When the last boy was about to bump into him he moved his foot slightly and the boy tripped to the ground with a loud thud.

The group of boys that had unapologetically bumped into him turned around and one of them shouted, "Don’t you know how to apologise?"

Luo Muchen didn’t even look at him. He was staring coldly at the one who looked like the leader amongst them while saying, "I should be saying the same about you," before walking past him. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

The leader of their little gang sneered and was about to say something else when one of the chemistry teachers showed up. He was the homeroom teacher for year eight class one meaning that he was also Luo Muchen’s teacher.

He was a big brawny man who was easily mistaken for a sports science teacher. It was for this reason that he was the homeroom teacher for a year eight class.

He could intimidate seniors just by his appearance making them hesitant to mess with juniors. His name was Teacher Zhu but everybody called him big boar behind his back and one could see why.

Qie Xieling glanced back and was about to step in subconsciously but when he saw Luo Muchen could handle himself he looked away.

Teacher Zhu grabbed the back of the young man’s neck and pulled him towards Luo Muchen his actions not rough but not gentle either.

"As a senior, you should lead by example. Apologise to your junior for bumping him," he said in a domineering tone.

The young man didn’t want to apologise but he was also afraid of big boar so he said, "Sorry junior for that. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going."

Luo Muchen knew this little feud wasn’t going to end here. He had a feeling that there was deep hatred there but he had no idea where it was coming from when they just met today.

"En," he replied not caring for his half-hearted apology.

"Good. Let’s start the year on a clean slate, okay?" said the teacher before he pushed the boy away and walked past them.

Luo Muchen continued to walk towards where his classmates were standing and stood right behind Qie Xieling. Before the assembly started he took out his cell phone and typed.

Muchen: Where do you want us to sit?

Qie Xieling felt the vibration in his pocket and took out his cell phone to take a look. He read the message on the lock screen discreetly but he didn’t reply.

He glanced back at the corner of his eye and met Luo Muchen’s gaze without saying a word.

A second later another soft buzz in his pocket drew his attention. He took it out and read the next message sent by Luo Muchen again.

Muchen: Are you going to go against your word?

Qie Xieling felt like Luo Muchen was his creditor here to collect debts. He sighed while glancing back at him.

"Not now," he mouthed and Luo Muchen showed a fleeting smile.

It was then the teacher showed up on stage. Lucky for him Luo Muchen was still a stickler when it came to rules. He didn’t text him anymore but that didn’t mean the pressure was off.

This holiday had made him forget about it but now he had come to terms with reality. Sharing a desk with Luo Muchen was really a mistake, a very big mistake.

Qie Xieling wished the assembly would go on for long but when you want things to last long, time seems to go by quickly. When they left the assembly hall he tried to slow his steps significantly but what had to come still came.

While passing by the administration office he and Bo Ailun heard a woman yelling something to the principal so he decided to waste some time there. It seemed she wanted her daughter to be in class one but they had placed her in class three.

The teacher tried to explain that the class number had nothing to do with the children’s performance and that it was randomly selected. The woman couldn’t accept that answer thus she yelled even more talking about her identity and how she could have the principal replaced.

"Is it interesting to eavesdrop?" asked a deep and terrifying voice almost like his father’s.

Qie Xieling and Bo Ailun jolted in fright as they turned around only to be met by teacher Zhu’s smiling eyes. "You must be Bo Ailun and you... you, I have heard of you. It’s going to be interesting teaching you Qie Xieling," he said and Qie Xieling was already sweating bullets. The teacher knowing your name and face on the very first day wasn’t a good sign. This was all thanks to teacher Wong.

"Hello, teacher," they said simultaneously as they bowed.

Teacher Zhu chuckled softly saying, "It’s Teacher Zhu, now let’s go to class."

When they reached class the noisy students saw the teacher behind them and quickly quieted down while rushing back to their seats.

"Find somewhere to sit," he said to Qie Xieling and Bo Ailun before walking towards the podium. Luo Muchen who had left the seat next to him unoccupied followed Qie Xieling with his eyes the meaning obvious.

Qie Xieling however was extremely stubborn. He sat next to Bo Ailun on the second row from the back not even daring to look at Luo Muchen. Damn, he knew Luo Muchen wouldn’t do anything to him but why was his heart pounding hard like he was having an adrenaline rush?
