Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 44: "Wait a little longer,"
Luo Muchen’s heart was set ablaze and the slow romantic music in the background wasn’t helping. He was having a peach blossom moment just like in K-dramas. He just wanted to pull him closer and rest his head on Qie Xieling’s shoulder while confessing his feelings.
"What? Do you also think I am too skinny? Uh shit, now I understand why my pa keeps insisting on dragging me to the gym," said Qie Xieling removing Luo Muchen’s hands from his waist.
Luo Muchen felt a great sense of loss. He glanced down at his hands which still had lingering warmth from the touch just now. He was grateful that the lights were slightly dim otherwise his red cheeks and ears would be seen by everyone.
Qie Xieling had no idea he had screwed with Luo Muchen’s emotions so much that his brain was fried. He was busy staring at the dull dance floor. If there weren’t any distractions how would they get away with what they were about to do?
They needed the dance floor to be a little more chaotic than this. Qie Xieling nudged Chubs and asked, "We should do the thing."
Bo Ailun’s spine tingled while stammering, "Are you kidding me? That’s so embarrassing."
Qie Xieling rolled his eyes against his better judgement and asked, "Is there a girl you like here?"
Bo Ailun shook his head no and Qie Xieling replied, "Exactly so what is there to be embarrassed about? Do you want to go through with the plan or not?"
"Fine... but if this follows me to high school you owe me," he said but his little feet were already moving to the rhythm.
These two had spent hours trying to beat the dance rush high school at the arcade for years and by the time they accomplished their goal, they were already so good at the dance steps that it was like breathing to them. It came naturally.
With zero embarrassment on their faces, they took over the dance floor mirroring each other’s moves. Qie Xieling was the type that seemed a little goofy at first and there would be a lot of laughing and joking around, but you would only realise later that he could really dance.
These two were so infectious that the boys who were a little embarrassed at first couldn’t help but want to join in which is exactly what Qie Xieling wanted. He tapped Bo Ailun’s shoulder and the two of them slipped out of the crowd.
Qie Xieling’s plan was perfect but he failed to account for Luo Muchen. The guy was watching him like a hawk so of course, when he slipped away Luo Muchen noticed.
The two of them ran out and opened his locker in haste before rushing to the front of the hall overlooking the artificial lake.
"Why are they so big?" asked Bo Ailun while chuckling softly.
"Shh, safety first. If I lose a finger my parents will kill me," he said as they lined the fireworks on the lawn.
Qie Xieling was especially smart in adopting his uncle’s idea of timed explosions. He had learnt how to buy things on the dark web by watching his dad working and the person who gave him the money was none other than his nana Qie.
He managed to buy three comets, two skyrockets and five flying fish fireworks. After setting it up, Qie Xieling lit it up before running like hell. They were almost thirteen years old but their consciousness of safety was beyond their age.
After running to hide a series of explosions followed with sparkly lights shining bright above the artificial lake.
The hall of students and teachers thought it was a bomb or something at first until they saw the lights in the sky. Everybody rushed over to the windows to watch while teacher Wong pushed through to the front.
He already knew who did this without thinking. "Qie Xieling!" he yelled at the door and Qie Xieling who was hiding heard it from afar.
"Fuck," he swore before he pulled Bo Ailun to run. The two of them disappeared in the shadow of darkness heading for the classrooms. The school was huge but like a sniffing dog teacher Wong guessed his general direction.
From behind them, Qie Xieling could hear teacher Wong’s hoarse voice calling his name like a devil here to collect debts. Qie Xieling pushed Bo Ailun in the direction of the hall.
"Go back to the hall. I will lead him away," he whispered leaving no time for Bo Ailun to argue.
Qie Xieling kicked a class door and like a bat with exceptional hearing teacher Wong accurately located where he was running to. Just as Qie Xieling thought he would be caught today someone grabbed his arm as he turned the corner.
Before he could yelp in surprise his eyes fell into darkness his back pressed against the wall. When he looked up he saw Luo Muchen’s face right in front of him.
"You...," he whispered only for Luo Muchen to place his forefinger on his lips telling him to keep quiet.
Qie Xieling glanced around and realised they were in the janitor’s closet which was always locked. How Luo Muchen got those keys was a mystery to him. He was about to ask him where he got the key when the door handle was pulled down several times.
Qie Xieling held his breath as he stepped aside a little. When he lowered his gaze to look at the door handle he accidentally bumped into Luo Muchen’s forehead. Qie Xieling grimaced in pain but before he could let out a sound a soft hand covered his mouth.
Luo Muchen gestured for him to keep silent but in truth, he was afraid Qie Xieling would feel the thumping of his heart through his palm. He gulped as he met Qie Xieling’s gaze.
His mind, body and soul imploded at that moment thus he moved his hand up to block Qie Xieling’s eyes. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Qie Xieling chuckled silently wondering what he was doing. He pulled down Luo Muchen’s hand as the sounds of footsteps disappeared.
"You think we should go?" asked Qie Xieling about to touch the door handle but Luo Muchen touched his hand stopping him.
He leaned his head down and whispered, "Wait a little longer," without letting go of Qie Xieling’s hand. He wanted this moment to last longer than it should.
