Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 199: A spoilt princess
Qie Xieling looked like a ray of sunshine standing there all prim and proper, well, except that his lips were a little swollen and bruised.
The others were all dishevelled and battle-worn, staring at him with their weary eyes. Even Jolie exhaled deeply her muscles melting like jelly when she saw he was okay. Boran put down his greataxe a little envious of him. He wished he was in his position for once.
Yunning, on the other hand, stared at him with a condescending look, her jealousy seeping through her gaze. Qie Xieling’s mannerisms left her annoyed and unable to contain herself. How dare someone who had been hiding during the fight suddenly appear so prim and proper?
"What? Why are you all looking at me like that? Do I have something in my hair?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of confusion as he tried to make sense of their reactions.
Yunning’s eyes narrowed, her jealousy turning into a palpable resentment. She stepped forward, her tone laced with disdain. "Eling, where were you during the battle? We fought tooth and nail, risking our lives, and you were nowhere to be found. And yet, here you are, looking as if you’ve just stepped out of a noble’s courtyard. You are more like a spoilt princess than I am." It seemed she had forgotten she was the one who suppressed his magic in the first place. So what was he supposed to do? Stay here and die?
King Luo wasn’t about to have that. He blocked Yunning’s view while saying, "Don’t come closer. It’s too dirty over here."
Luo Muchen might not remember who he was in the real world but his behaviour was still the same. He would always get in front of Qie Xieling and de-escalate the situation just before Qie Xieling blows up. What Qie Xieling didn’t know was that Luo Muchen would go behind his back and get revenge for him.
Qie Xieling’s smile faded slightly as he realized the judgment present in her voice. He stepped aside to face her as he was being blocked by King Luo.
"Excuse me. Weren’t you the one who took away my magic? Huh? Now you want to talk about how hard the battle was."
Yunning bit her lip fully aware that she had overreacted. What made it worse was that King Luo was protecting him like he was some priceless porcelain. It irked her so much that she couldn’t help but open her mouth again.
"We wouldn’t be here in the first place if it weren’t for you. You betrayed his majesty for a woman who doesn’t even love you and cut off his dragon heart scales. If it weren’t for you this entire world wouldn’t be in chaos. You are the reason why we are in this very situation," her emotions running rampant.
"Yunning!" yelled King Luo. When she heard his thunderous voice shutting her up she became even more infuriated.
"You are protecting him? Wow, you are shutting me up for telling the truth. Where are you going... come back... I am not done talking to you," she said when she saw Eling walking away.
King Luo felt his heart pounding in his chest as he watched Qie Xieling storming off, his anger palpable. He immediately ran after him while Jolie just sat there watching the good show. It was nice seeing the enemy destroy herself.
King Luo tried to catch up with Qie Xieling up the stairs but after taking a few steps his body suddenly felt weak, and his legs wobbled beneath him.
He stumbled forward, barely managing to catch himself from falling with a hand against the wall. Panting heavily, he called out to Qie Xieling, his voice strained and frail.
"Lin Lin! Wait!" he called out his voice barely carrying over to Qie Xieling but Qie Xieling didn’t slow down. He continued his rapid retreat without even sparing him a glance.
Disappointment gripped King Luo’s heart, knowing that Qie Xieling left him behind without looking back. Seeing Qie Xieling’s back gave him this inexplicable sense of fear that he was going to lose him as though he had lost him before.
Determination surged through his weakened body as he took a shaky step forward, but suddenly, a blinding light engulfed him.
His surroundings blurred, then came into focus once more. King Luo looked down and gasped in astonishment as he transformed back into a small dragon, his body covered by a heap of his clothes.
His platinum scales shimmered under the light filtering from the lit wall sconces. Annoyance and anger mingled within King Luo. Why did he have to change into this form at this very moment? He hadn’t even recognised how much of his power he had used to banish the death knights and nightwalkers back to the Shadowfell.
Summoning what remained of his strength, King Luo spread his wings and launched into the air, leaving behind his discarded clothes. The wind rushed past him as he soared overhead, keeping Qie Xieling within his sights. With each powerful beat of his wings, the distance between them shrank.
As King Luo closed in, he tried to call him again but Qie Xieling remained focused on his path, his face etched with anger and determination. His heart sank, realising that Qie Xieling wasn’t aware of his presence or was actively ignoring him.
King Luo summoned all his strength attempting to land in Qie Xieling’s path. But at the last moment, his wings suddenly lost strength, sending him spiralling off balance. He crashed clumsily to the ground. Dazed and disoriented, King Luo looked around, finding himself sprawled on the ground. He felt a weight of disappointment in that moment. He was just too weak to get up.
Just when he thought of giving up until he had recovered, he heard a clamour of steps. He was suddenly picked up and he came face to face with Qie Xieling. The disappointment he felt melted away and he was so happy to see him. He immediately crawled into Qie Xieling’s clothes and made himself comfortable. He was afraid that Qie Xieling would leave him stranded on the stairs again.
"Let’s go, I need to cool off or something. That woman was too vile," said Qie Xieling as they exited the secret staircase.
Meanwhile, Jolie got up with a mocking smile. Yunning who was still staring at the direction they left in glaringly heard her say, "If I were you I would be very... very nice to Eling. Just saying."
